General Discussion / Seen Over London Today

I am looking for some help to display the various markets in real time. I am self-funding a Bounty of 6,420 BTS to someone who has the skills to try and help me build something that benefits the BitShares community.

I need a web developer who can create and implement PHP code that takes the API for each market i.e. bts, bitGOLD, bitUSD, bitCNY et al. and has the data nicely displayed on a Joomla site:

current bid/ask order book
candlestick chart (if possible)
line chart
volume/price chart  (if possible)
current price
24 hour volume
24 hour price change
low, high
fiat value
feed price
total supply
order history
margin call/ short sell orders
last data update time stamp
any other relevant data

There appears to be Joomla extensions that allow PHP code to be place inside articles/modules so incorporating the code into the site should not be too difficult.

I would want to be able to also display select user-issued assets, and be shown how to display new markets when they open in the future.
thanks - bitsharesmarket.com

General Discussion / Network Effect
« on: October 31, 2014, 05:13:38 am »
We are a community with many different reasons for being here, yet we kind of all want the same thing. Our community could potentially jump-start BitShares reaching its full potential. That purpose should be creating a network effect. We need to reach more people and have them get introduced to BitShares, plain and simple.

On November 5th, 2014 - the day we become united as a community - the day the benefits to the masses become more easier to convey - should be the day we as a community step-up to the challenge.

Here are some thoughts:
Just because you are not a developer or delegate does not mean you cannot help the community. Everyone can help make the network effect happen. Some of the community should be working on the technical stuff, the rest of us should use our passion and skill as writers or marketers.  Let us all think of ways we can make BitShares visible to increasingly more people. You know a lot of 'things' seem to go viral pretty fast if they attract attention.

I saw a statistic not too long ago that showed that besides Bitcoin our community was in size significantly larger than all the other crypto-communities. That struck me as a huge plus... we should be using the power in numbers advantage we have to share this exciting technology. Like ourselves, other people will be interested if they are introduced to the many existing, developing and potential applications.

Find a way to contribute. For instance we can leverage our numbers and subscribe to that old webmaster motto that 'Content is King'. The idea here is for the community to make BitShares visible in search engine results and on social media and every place else of significance. Anybody nowadays can make a website, create a free blog on Wordpress, submit an article to an article directory or do many other things to contribute. Some of us may have to be willing to step outside of our comfort zone a bit.

It would be great if searches like 'why do I need bitUSD?', 'how can I get bitCNY with a bitcoin?', 'how does a blockchain change the world', 'the future of voting' etc. turned up results of contributions from our community. Some of us have already started this effort, look to http://beyondbitcoinx.net/, http://whatisbitusd.com/ and https://kettenblog.wordpress.com/ and others related to the BitShares blockchain as just a few of the fine examples of content contributions made by members of our community. We need to join them.

Articles, blogs, websites, and social media efforts can all have a great cumulative effect reaching our target market and increasing our user base. Think about what will happen when many different sources start to reach thousands and thousands of people each day who will be learning about the opportunities BitShares offers.

Let us all get that BitShares buzz going. Game on.

KeyID / TLD

TLD: The TLD is the letters immediately following the final dot in an Internet address. A TLD identifies something about the website associated with it, such as its purpose, the organization that owns it or the geographical area where it originates.

Big thanks to toast for his efforts with BitShares DNS and involving the community. Here are some endorsements to help sway your vote:

Because there will be more and more dacs in the future ,and these dacs will change the world.
So, let .dac become a name of era.
p2p since it would encompass the entire decentralized mindset
I love .key...plays upon both Security Keys (implying the power of encryption) and also indirectly markets Keyhotee.
.we
 +5%
.dac or .bts seem to be good options as they'll also serve as publicity for the bts/dac concepts.
My vote is .dac or .bts

BitShares AGS / Coinplorer showing different amounts for AGS donations
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:31:53 pm »
I didn't want to ask this in the forum, but after running it by our help desk the answer I received was that maybe coinplorer is not accurate. This might be the case but I wanted to let the powers that be be aware of the situation. Maybe they can shed some light on the situation

https://coinplorer.com/PTS
194k is the amount

When you click through the angel address

https://coinplorer.com/PTS/Addresses/PaNGELmZgzRQCKeEKM6ifgTqNkC4ceiAWw
90k is what is received

Why are these different?

BitShares AGS / Are AGS retroactive?
« on: January 03, 2014, 04:53:44 pm »
Angelshares give you a piece of future DAC's, but would an AGS that is awarded through donation over the next 200 days be awarded a piece of a DAC that is released before the AGS was awarded.

in other words, if a DAC is released next week are only current Angelshare holders the only one that benefit, or would someone who is awarded an Angelshare on day 200 also benefit from the DAC that was released 6 months earlier?

I read here a month or so ago that having my PTS shares on the exchange and not in my wallet might complicate or preclude me altogether from getting the new shares that match my PTS shares. I hope I haven't missed out on any since then as I have just left my shares on the exchange.

But as I am fairly new to all of this, can someone walk me through the steps I need to do to put my shares in the wallet so I don't miss out on these future opportunities and what if anything, I need to do after that so I can reap the benefits of investing in Protoshares.

Can I just use an online wallet such as the one offered by blockchain.info, or is that only for BTC?
Did I miss any DAC offerings that I should have been entitled to and what if anything can I do about getting those shares?
