Even weirder, looks like at least one of my email notifications somehow got sent to Lance instead of myself. So definitely looks like somehow there is something weird with the Pobox email forwarding (which I've never had any issues with otherwise) combined with BitSharesTalk emails. Hopefully things will be ok now that I've switched back to my other email.

where are @vikram latest updates ?

Pushed some updates to bitshares/fc to bring it into sync with steemit/fc: https://github.com/bitshares/fc/compare/31adee49...master

Should be compatible with latest gcc and clang compilers. Boost compatibility past Boost 1.60 will still have to wait on upstream development from Steemit.

Hoping to do some reorganization of the bitshares-2 repo soon before updating it to reflect the fc upgrades.

For the record I am using https://www.pobox.com/ for our @soledger.com emails so I assume there is some incompatibility with their forwarding and the BitSharesTalk.org email sending.

Just tried with my current @soledger.com address and also changing back to my previous @fastmail.com address. Not receiving any emails if I try to reset my password.

Edit: Nvm I seem to have just received a reset password link to my @fastmail.com address. Seems like there may be an issue with using the @soledger.com email so I will stay away from that for now.

I sent you a test message. Did it notify your inbox?

Ah just replied to your PM before seeing this. I did not get an email about the PM but I think that may be normal if you are already online on the forum when it is received? But I am pretty sure that I am not receiving emails for PMs when I am not on the forum for example I got a PM earlier today but no corresponding email. I'm looking at my email trashcan and it looks like the last time I successfully received a forum notification mail was Nov. 1 2016.

I think this has been going on for quite a while. I no longer seem to receive emails to notify of mentions, PMs, etc. Is anyone else having this problem?

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker Proposal] New BitShares Core Dev
« on: January 12, 2017, 09:54:20 pm »
Alfredo is under the supervision of, and reports daily to @kenCode at BitShares Munich.

As you guys know, I am kind of a hardass. I will fire as fast as I hire, I have zero patience for slackers, so rest assured that the rest of my team will also be security auditing his work just like the other products that we have audited recently. Github issues, mem leaks, wiresharking, the works.

Getting a Core Dev for 6 months, for only ~$5K is a sweetheart deal.

Please vote for Alfredo, and as always my updates will be posted on his progress every week.

This is really great!! Thanks a lot for the initiative! I will update my proxy to whoever votes for this if necessary.

Feedback / questions:
1) Is there public information about Alfredo Garcia available besides his name? LInkedin, github etc?
2) I can not finally judge this as I am not a developer but did you think about a third party code reviewer such as Cryptonomex or Bunkerchainlabs? Or does Bitshares Munich hire one anyway? If so it would be nice if the results of these reviews and who did the review would be public as well. In the end such a review is effective if the reviewer has a reputation (to loose).

1) No. Have faith in me and my team, I hope my track record speaks for itself at this point. I only work with the brightest minds in the world.
2) We have auditors on staff, and I always encourage the public to audit our code as well on my github repos. I totally agree with you about reviews too and welcome them here.

I have great faith in Ken and support this worker, especially for this price. I think BitShares should encourage as much new developer activity as it can.

Meta / Subforum consolidation
« on: January 04, 2017, 03:26:24 am »
The forum seems very fragmented to me these days, particularly given the evolution of the community since the early days of BitShares 2.

I think it would be healthy to shake things up a bit, and consolidate subforums so that it is simpler for users to discover new and/or active discussion.

What do you think of consolidating the main subforum section into just these 4 categories:
  • General Discussion - Anything not in the below sections. Mostly general BTS discussion but can also include general blockchain technology/industry discussion.
  • Stakeholder Proposals - For concrete voting proposals for proxies, witnesses, committee members, and workers.
  • Project Development - For discussion of concrete software development related to the BTS ecosystem. Ongoing community library/tool discussion can go here.
  • Technical Support - For help to users and service providers with operating or integrating with BTS ecosystem software.

  • Questions & Concerns threads will be merged into General Discussion or Technical Support based on the topic.
  • Community Meetups will be merged into General Discussion.
  • BitShares 2.0 and all subforum threads will be merged into General Discussion, Project Development, or Technical Support based on the topic.
  • Marketing and all subforum threads will be merged into General Discussion or Project Development based on the topic.
  • 3rd Party Projects and all subforum threads will be merged into Project Development or Graveyard based on the subforum or topic.
  • Trading & Speculation and all subforum threads will be merged into General Discussion or Project Development based on the topic.
  • Marketplace will be merged into General Discussion.

@fav @xeroc What do you guys think?

I didn't realize the wallet backup produced by the web wallet or light wallet (web browser hosted wallets) could be used by the cli wallet. I thought they were distinctly different formats.

Xeroc, you know the answer to this better than I. Has compatibility always been there since Oct 15, 2015 or did it come along later? If so what timeframe (roughly) did that compatibility come into being?

You're correct. The CLI wallet does not support importing backup files made in the web wallet.

@vikram or @Agent86 can we have a status update please? I emailed you but no reply, I hope you guys are well.

We are paying you about 300,000 BTS per month and I do not see any github commits for ~2.5 months now:

https://github.com/vikramrajkumar
https://github.com/vikramrajkumar/dotfiles/commits/master
https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-2/

I know R&D can take some time, but we voted for "soledger" because you are already experienced with Bitshares, so could move things along quickly.
Weekly updates would be really nice please, even if it is just a few sentences.

There is a lot of work to be done:

Replying to your email right after this Ken. Sorry for the delay I've been mostly offline between Christmas and New Years.

To be clear, since my initial work in November, I have nothing to report for December. Lance and I ended up heavily focusing on our internal Soledger project this past month.

In January, I intend to switch gears and make progress on BTS including making up for December. As I mentioned in my previous update, the primary thing I am considering next is to update fc with upstream patches from steemit/fc.

In the long term I think this is important to do because at present, fc has problems building with newer versions of the Boost library as well as with the Clang compiler. As time goes on, I want to avoid compatibility issues like this preventing people from building/developing BTS in newer system environments.

Again, this will require alot of care to avoid including for example changes to JSON serialization to avoid changing the BTS API. The Boost compatibility upgrade is also specifically a major change and will require more analysis to see the feasibility of it working with BTS. I've had some discussion with @modprobe (https://github.com/nathanhourt) and he is also interested in an upgraded fc for the compatibility reasons I mentioned.

I will also review the issue tracker for low-hanging fruit. To reiterate however, the scope of this worker is focused on administration and essential maintenance as described in the OP and my later reply https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23495.msg300215.html#msg300215, so I think monthly (rather than weekly) status updates strike a good balance. If anyone is running into specific bugs that are preventing them from doing something please let me know.

All that being said I am open to any feedback from you guys. Happy new years all.

Just broadly so far I've:

- Merged some fixes from upstream Graphene repo that have been sitting there for a while
- Workaround for log files filling up disk space during sync
- Removed some offline seed nodes
- Deleted some abandoned branches from GitHub repo
- Updated docs submodule (repo wiki) with upstream Graphene updates
- Merged a couple minor pull requests
- Removed some no longer active members from GitHub org
- Added @svk as admin to GitHub org

Next I want to begin merging updates/fixes (of which there are many) from upstream steemit/fc. This requires a lot of care because some of them are incompatible with BitShares.

44
NOTE: 2 pages of posts disappeared from this thread (I asked about this here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23506.0.html)

Again, I want to express sincere thanks to all stakeholders from myself and @Agent86 at Soledger. Our worker has been voted in and I've been given administrative privileges for the BitShares GitHub organization. I've merged some minor commits (https://github.com/bitshares/bitshares-2/compare/d7c51f26e3...4eaef390a3) and will continue to address tasks in line with what I've outlined in earlier posts.

Continued feedback and thoughts are always appreciated.

Meta / Did forum posts between around Nov. 7 to Nov. 13 disappear?
« on: November 14, 2016, 09:40:10 pm »
BitSharesTalk seemed to have been down for a while during that period.

Checking today, it looks that some posts have disappeared. For example, my worker thread https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,23495.0.html had reached 3 pages previously, but now it is truncated back to 1 page.

Edit: I specifically remember a post I made on Nov. 10, which is now gone looking at my post history.
