For the record, I thought Twitter was the dumbest name I'd ever heard. A few people proved me wrong.

How did they do that? I still find it pretty stupid... And how about half eaten apple for a logo???

Lack of arbitrage is the problem, isn't it. And this 'should' solves it.

The naming/branding was extensively debated many months ago (well before the release).

I'd say it is not the time to re-open the debate.

I agree 1000% with the OP. The simpler the better is very important when it comes to marketing. I would absolutely love for BTSX to just be "BitShares". Bitcoin ---> BitShares. A perfect transition. The X sounds "xtreme", immature, and kind of like porn, like OP mentioned.

I'm sure it'd be difficult to transition everything...but I truly think it'd be worth it.

I disagree, the X is cool (and it means eXchange).

Bitshares is our ecosystem.  Bitshares X is our exchange DAC.

(Also, Bitshares is absolutely the BEST name to be the successor to bitcoin).

What are you saying? I love the "dogeparty' name...it suits them very nicely... I just wish they have gone with the proof of donation concept....

It becomes quite clear what demographic dogeparty appeals to.

I think onramps to the cryptocurrency scene are a good thing.  I'm not hating.  It is just a different thing.

The name confuses newcomers? I don't think it's the name that confuses them, there is just too much information for them compared to what they have been used to with all these crapcoins out there, that's all. I think the name is just fine and even if it was not so good there would be no reason to change it to make things even more complicated for newcomers.

If you think we need to change the name of BitSharesX what do you think the "dogeparty" guys should do? kill themselves?

Please, no more name changing.

I agree that the naming convention is very unfortunate.  We stepped right in of the same labeling morris that bitcoin did with its Bitcoin network and bitcoin currency.  This is very unclear for mass communication.  Every bit helps when we expect a tough competition and a tough fight for survival.  The names/lables of our companies and products need to be very clear in the publics head within minutes of hearing it.  The DAC/Bitshares concept is complicated enough without our choice of labels making it even more confusing to the general public.

IMHO we should have

Parent company (DAC)      Bitshares  - change to -  (XXX)=totally different name not using the word bitshares
Bitshares Exchange           BTSX      - no change-
Bitshares Value Unit          BTSX           - change to -   Bitshare / BTS  ............(this should be on coinmktcap)
Other family of DACS        Remove Bitshare from their name and add the new name of the parent company.  <---- especially if they don't use the BTS value unit.

Well it's not up to me to debate this, for me it makes sense and I get the feeling that the community accepted it as well. I think particular products in this family can be re-branded and those names would just be used for internal communication so no worries.

I don't see any problem with the name

BitSharesX - kinda as in Exchange, just like ForeX.

BitShares is just the family name

BitShares Music
BitShares DNS
BitShares WhatsNext

Indeed there was a debate on this a while back but have not searched back for it, but this was my understanding from it all.
Oh BitShares Music tokens are called Notes I believe.

Right, you don't see a problem with the name, but that doesn't change the fact that new users do. Also, a name that has to be explained like you just did is inherently bad.
