General Discussion / Re: Facebook groups
« on: September 06, 2014, 09:47:53 pm »
Thanks for the links. :)

Speaking of social media.. while we have some attention towards the subject, I will be running "missions" to get adopted by exchanges and payment processors. See more in the thread in my signature, and here is the latest mission which segway-ed me to this subject.  :D

You also gave me an idea in using crypto Facebook user groups to spread the good word about Bitshares in future missions. :)

Now that we've made original contact with a few exchanges and payment processors, I think we should reinforce the fact we really want their services! These will be follow up missions to the original ones.

First send a pre-filled tweet.. or edit it and make your own and emphasize other benefits of BitsharesX and bitassets!! All you need to do is click the links below to open up twitter pre-filled to the exchanges and payment processors we've already contacted. Just log in or signup.. it doesn't take long! After you are logged in you can send all tweets in under a minute.  8)

Second, Facebook requires a bit more effort, but I have put a link to each service's Facebook account. Please comment on one of their previous posts that they should implement BTSX and bitassets! If you like just copy and paste my comment, or feel free to write your own or elaborate! My comment was: Please look into adding support for BitsharesX and bitassets such as bitUSD and bitBTC! BitsharesX allows trading of decentralized bitassets which resemble the real value of cryptos, fiat, and commodities.

General Discussion / Re: Campaign for charity to receive btsx/bitUSD.
« on: September 06, 2014, 07:04:46 pm »
I have a feeling this post was buried: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4582.msg109578#msg109578

This current thread itself has 12+ hours on it and 31 views.  I guess the title sucks?

And yes Xeroc we definitely want people discussing this all in one spot.

My post basically adds nothing to Xeroc's efforts except suggesting BTSX/BitUSD as a whole needs a charity that can receive currencies properly denominated.

BitUSD and not BTSX ?   8)

Payment processor adoption will help towards this goal I think. Currently they would need to do everything manually.

Couldn't we technically bypass gateways, trade on only decentralized exchanges (which we can clone for multiple altcoins) and transact in bitUSD directly?  BitSapphire is making an app to enable this...

The way I look at it is that we could wait for services to be built around BTSX and bitassets, but while we are waiting it could be beneficial to solicit companies already working in the space that might could implement it faster. I think the more options the better when it comes to payment processors and exchanges anyways.

I think getting added to already existing payment processors increases that likelihood a website or service will accept BTSX or bitUSD. You can't just expect them to all drop their current payment processors for one that is newly created that accepts BTSX or bitUSD. Coinpayments.net and Gocoin for instance, already have an extensive network of websites using their shopping cart plugins.

The decentralized solutions aren't ideal IMO in that you can't pay a website requesting Bitcoins for their products or services with BTSX or Bitassets.. There is no way to exchange them in a truly decentralized manner. Getting payment gateways on board will be the 3rd step to this campaign. To make it more likely gateways and payment processors will adopt BTSX and Bitassets, I think it is important to get added to a couple more reputable exchanges.

next  steps?

I am thinking of collecting email addresses, facebook links, and twitter links for the remaining exchanges that do not have voting or a submittal form. I can make a list of things to do daily with prefilled tweets and emails, where you would only need to click a link to send them. You would just need to have an email client configured, but I think for Facebook a link to a profile will have to suffice as there's no way to do it automatically.

A good social media and email campaign will at least get us on their radar, if not result in being added to a couple exchanges or payment processors. This is the inspiration for my idea of how I want future missions to work.. It is people working to get online poker legalized in the US. I would like to use a similar strategy, but combined with emails. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/57/poker-legislation-forum-brought-you-ppa/weekend-poker-action-plan-keep-telling-sen-kelly-ayotte-17-others-back-poker-1037109/index836.html

Thanks for the help everyone. I agree with Gamey, we should avoid those that request money to be added and focus on the others.

Technical Support / Re: How to invest?

What about DAC's.  insurance, Music etc etc?  Where does all this come into play?

To get a stake of future DACs you need to buy Bitshares PTS. You can do that now or you can wait until a snapshot is announced.

I would keep most of your money in BTSX while learning how to trade, only use a small percentage of your coins at first.

Basically, if you think BTSX value will go up compared to the US dollar, then you want to short bitUSD or be in BTSX, If you think the price may go down you want to be in bitUSD.

If you think BTSX will not perform as well as Bitcoin in the markets, you can purchase bitBTC, if you think BTSX will outperform Bitcoin you can short bitBTC.

So on so forth with other assets.. same general idea for all of them just replace Bitcoins with any FIAT or commodities.

General Discussion / Re: Interest on BitUSD - A Proposal for Review
« on: September 06, 2014, 02:50:54 am »
What effect (if any) do you guys think the 5% interest will do to the price of Bitassets? Take something like bitUSD which already inflates via the US government by about 2% per year. Then we add 5% on top of that. How will the 7% annual inflation rate affect the price of Bitshares- if it will at all?

I know this is about creating a demand for Bitassets and I think it will, but are there any long term side effects regarding to the bitasset market peg in making bitUSD annual inflation at 7% when the actual inflation rate is closer to 2%???

Technical Support / Re: Remove unregistered account
« on: September 06, 2014, 02:08:51 am »
Hi guys.

It takes a while, but this is currently the Only way to remove accounts that I know of. First export the private keys of the accounts you want to use using the following command in console:

wallet_dump_private_key <account name>

Copy the private key for any account with a balance and note the account name they are associated with. Remember to store these keys in a safe place.. Like Bitcoin private keys, if anyone gets them they can steal your wallet without your password.

Quit the BTSX client.

Delete this folder: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\default
^ Note: replace UserName with your Windows user name; AppData is a hidden folder so you need to type it in manually or turn on the viewing of hidden files and folders ^

Re-Open the BitsharesX client, create a new wallet password, and wait for the block chain to finish downloading. Instead of creating a new account, just go to console to do the following.

Import your private key to your account(s) using the 'wallet_import_private_key' command in the console with the private keys you copied earlier using the following syntax (only import the private keys to the accounts you want, and not the unregistered accounts!!)

wallet_import_private_key <private key>

Rescan the block chain to retrieve all of your transactions and to show your proper balance using the following command in console:

wallet_rescan_blockchain

i would suggest that in the future I3 will only pay and accept payments only in bitUSD or bitCNY or ... but not in BTC or PTS or BTSX or...

this will start the demand cycle.

would also be nice if there is a technical solution or integration in the bitsharestoolkit to implement it from the start to accept transfers  in the bitAssets market

like

you can pay bitShares DNS with bitUSD , you can buy bitShares Music with bitUSD, you can play on bitShares Play with bitUSD

Yes, more ways are needed to give bitassets more demand. Here is a payment processor form.. Go submit it to Coinpayments.net for BTSX and Bitassets. :)

Payment processors adopting Bitassets will bring them more utility and people can use them for ecommerce, increasing the likelyhood someone would buy Bitassets. Having Ecommerce on the block chain will increase the rate of deflation as transaction fees are destroyed, thus improving the bottom line of BitsharesX. There are several multi coin payment processors and some have a form for submittal or vote. I will list some of the bigger multicoin payment processors. Payment processors with an automatic coin add form or vote are listed below.

Coinpayments.net
  • Coinpayments.net is the oldest multicoin payment processor, and they also have a form you can submit to get BitsharesX support. Please go submit BitsharesX and bitassets at the following link:
  • Adoption by this payment processor could mean the ability to purchase items and services with BTSX and Bitassets from these businesses: https://www.coinpayments.net/store-directory.

I bet Shawn's Outpost would be interested in helping. He is doing pretty nice work I think, and have seen him work with alt coins before. I think crypto charities probably wouldn't turn down free money for a good cause, we just need to contact them.

I have created a campaign to get BitsharesX and bitassets adopted by exchanges and payment processors. There is already a list of a few things you can do if you have a little time to get some exchanges to add them.

Please go here and spread the word: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8384.0
