I've reduced my pay_rate to 75%.  Haven't gotten a chance to get into the top 100 yet, but have been following updates and kept my delegate running.

Good luck :)

For some reason I am unable to search for you in delegates.

Not sure why..

It seems I was voted back out due to my error last night... that was short lived. I would appreciate some support to help me get back in the top 100.

Cheers

We will strongly recommend others to vote them out.

This might of been me, I apologize. I missed 8 blocks because I had my delegate account loaded on both the VPN and my personal computer. I have since deleted the delegate account on my personal computer and everything seems to be running smoothly now. Luckily I noticed I was missing blocks, otherwise I wouldn't of realized. I apologize for that... It was a noob mistake. :)

By the way.. this should be explained in the "How to setup a delegate Wiki" so others avoid making the same mistake. If it would have been explained there I would not have done it. http://wiki.bitshares.org/index.php/BitShares_X_Delegate_How-To

Just curios, how did you remove the delegate account from wallet? Did you create a new wallet and import all accounts but the delegate or is there a console command for removing accounts from wallet?

I dumped the private key for my main non-delegate account, then deleted this folder:
C:\Users\Adminnn\AppData\Roaming\BitShares X\wallets\default

Then re-downloaded the block chain, imported the main account's private key, and re-scanned the block chain.

It seems I got voted out for my error last night, so be careful and don't do that!! :(

We had a discussion somewhere (annot find it atm) about a DAC for TOR .. so that running a relay or exit node gets you paid some fees ... that would encourage people to run nodes an strengthen the network .. maybe you can find it with the search function ..

I think that would be neat. You know that people are building TOR alternatives on top of crypto currencies, right?

Darkcoin is one of them:

Quote
One of the future goals is to turn the masternode network into a decentralized business for masternode operators. To do this we’ll add features that improve the privacy of end users and compete with centralized businesses. Our first endeavor into this is to make a completely private tor network within Darkcoin.

The Darkcoin network will begin to offer anonymous internet access via the masternode network. As a user, all you’ll have to do is pay a fee for 24 hours of access. This fee will be paid to a masternode in much the same way the masternode fees are paid, using a deterministic algorithm for distributing the payments evenly across the whole network.

There’s a few benefits to running a private tor network through Darkcoin.
Sybil resistant - Due to the cost of obtaining masternodes, it will be very difficult for any one person to view all traffic.
Anonymous Payments - Users can pay anonymously for the service
Private Network - Our tor network will be internal to darkcoin only. All traffic will be paid traffic, so the cost of running the service should be profitable for the masternode operators.
Faster than tor - Tor has historically been very slow. This will be a lean version, that has much higher throughput.

As for the cost of the service we’re thinking $0.50 per day or something to that effect.

We’re still working on the details how this will function and this isn’t a feature that we’re absolutely set on. We’re very interested to get the community’s response to see if it’s viable .

More info here on Darkcoin TOR here: https://darkcointalk.org/forums/darkcoin-tor-network.56/
Also, their brainstorm of future projects.. I think there are some good ideas in there, but it is mostly the usual decentralized app ideas most ppl bring up: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/list-of-future-development-ideas.89/

See link. Interesting idea that has crossed my mind, but I wasn't sure if it was possible or practical. Well.. Someone has claimed to be able to do it.

Looks like you're up and running and you only missed 8 blocks so far, the percentage reliability may look bad atm but it will get better very quickly!

Welcome to the club :)

Yeah.. I totally spaced that me having my accounts open in two instances was messing it up. I'll delete the delegate account from my personal computer in the morning. Gotta start somewhere I guess, but I should of checked sooner.

Anyways.. thanks for the welcome!  :D

Thank you guys very much for voting for me... I made it in the top 100 !!! I guess someone threw a lot of votes behind me, I am thankful for that!! :)

I thought everything was running fine until I just realized that me having my accounts open on the windows client trading bitUSD/BTSX was stopping me from participating as a delegate on the VPN... I feel really stupid as I was at 0% participation <facepalm>. I will be more careful about this in the future, just a noob mistake. I think I need to delete my accounts from the windows wallet and only add back my non-delegate account. I just thought I'd explain why I'm at such low participation.. it should get better as I sleep and be more accurate in the morning. It is already up to 20% from 0% just after 5 minutes or so. Anyways.. thanks again everyone! I promise to pull my weight around here!

Cheers

FYI-

on buy side, 18.5000 showing up above 18.50

The 18.5000 is me, I had typed in 18.500001 or something like that.. not sure if I'm selling at that and the number is truncated or if I'm selling at 18.5 and it's a glitch of some sort since I'm priority to the other 18.5

18.5000   350.00   6,475.00035
18.50   10,000.00   185,000.00

That didn't last long

Ya glad I'm didn't pull the trigger.. I had the order in, just had to click accept and it dropped even more. :)

I think it could go a little lower.. bter isn't looking so good right now.

Arhag, you had a lot of good points about Ethereum. There may very well be implications in running many DACs on one network due to the amount of processing power and sending all the data back and forth constantly. I do agree that the bare bones implementations of different DACs is likely to be much more efficient. Maybe Ethereum is not such a worry for those reasons.. I guess it depends on how it is built and I haven't looked closely at its inner workings.

Bitcoindark and Emunie could possibly competition.. but a lot of their features are still under development, so at least Bitshares will have a first mover advantage over most of their features. Also, they are doing a lot of things Nxt is doing except for the programming languages, so xt is probably still the biggest competitor out of the bunch.

I must say that Bitcoindark sounds like it has some interesting anonymity features. I need to look into it more.. something about "teleporting" whatever that means haha, but it is PoW so I don't like it right off the bat. I've been scammed one too many times by ASIC manufacturers... never again!

Nubits is being very hush hush, but I do know some of the developers are pretty good and am expecting a good project. They have been developing things in the crypto coin space for a while. I think BitsharesX has a huge advantage in the first mover advantage, so I have a hard time that they are going to be competition. They may take some market share, and Nubits/Peershares will definately help out Peercoin's value, but I still don't see it as being huge competition since now Bitshares is pretty much known for innovating bitassets and doing it first. That advantage will only get greater the longer they take to develop/implement Nubit.

So, I guess maybe these projects aren't such huge threats, but I think it's still good that everyone knows about them. They may have some good ideas that would be good to implement in Bitshares.. as I know people are likely to copy off of some of the things Bitshares is doing too. It is still good to have these conversations because everyone always seems to have a different opinion and you learn more that way. :)

General Discussion / Re: Can we talk a bit about the Delegate System?
« on: August 26, 2014, 06:01:56 am »
I get that they are the ones doing the actual mining but does that mean I can pick a delegate and then I no longer need to keep my BitsharesX application open and I'll still technically be mining?

If so, that's wunderbar!

Yes, you do not need to keep the wallet open to earn profit from the DAC. The delegates are mining the blocks and the network fees (dividends) are divvy'd up according to how many BTSX each person owns.

Beyond that do delegates differ in any particular way? I see that some have different pay rates (does that mean they are keeping the difference for themselves?) and reliability ratings.
Yes delegates differ in the ways that you mentioned. Different delegates charge different rates, anywhere from 0% to 100%, it is up to them to set it how they want. Some of them are for charity, some are for development projects, some just do it for a little extra money, etcetra. Having a purpose helps get a delegate elected.. such as the BTSX multipool project which will make it so people can actually mine BTSX with mining hardware. Everyone is pretty supportive of that, so I think most people vote to approve causes like that.

The reliability ratings are so everyone can tell if the delegate is doing a good job or not by having good up time. If they are crashing all the time or offline all the time, it harms the security of the network and they are likely to get their approval taken away.

Approval I'm assuming is the result of the voting but is there anythign else, active delegates do?
I think most delegates run their instances on Linux and on a VPN or a separate box out of their home, so that is one difference from probably most other users. Other than that it is just their job to try and keep their node online as often as possible, and also keep the client up to date when there are updates published on Github.

I noticed that some have a "bitasset" in their info section, for example USD at a certain price. What exactly is that referring to? How does that asset and price interact with being a delegate?
This is a temporary task of delegates that is only needed when the bitasset markets first launch. Basically the delegates get the current value of BTSX/USD and BTSX/CNY and publish it to the network. This needs to be done only when bitassets are launched until there is proper market depth. After market depth is established in the markets, the price will be determined by people buying and selling the assets and going short or long.

Sorry for all the questions. This is obviously new and I am a journalist with Bitcoinist.net
It's all good

I already wrote one article just on BitsharesX leapfrogging competition but I'd love to do a follow up where I explain this stuff to my readers in a contextual manner so they can understand exactly how it might impact them (or the markets).
Yep, I believe I saw that article.. thanks for that. :)

I'm also tempted to start asking about the asset trading system but I will hold off on that for now (unless anyone wants to say something about it).

Thanks guys and congrats on making it so far up the ladder!

Go ahead and ask away, I will do my best to answer. I'm not as good with the economic stuff but I am starting to understand it better. It is new territory for most of us.

Looks like these guys beat me to it.. at least you'll get a few answers. :)
