Random Discussion / Re: I have lost faith inBTS completely
« on: March 21, 2015, 09:52:52 am »
Goodbye,BTS

Lol was that you dumping today?

We have made loads of mistakes along the way, but I still believe BitShares has huge long-term value. I remember back in 2013 I wanted to trade my bitcoin and I could not do it because my AML docs hadnt cleared yet. Then I heard about BitUSD and I knew that was the only thing that could give me the freedom that I want.

All BitShares needs is to overcome a few more hurdles to make the exchange super easy to use, and we should be able to attract a real user base that uses it for trading. Then we will finally have a DAC that is profitable. At that point BTS will naturally be an asset that everyone wants to hold.

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD: BitBTC market?[Solved]

Why isn't this the default?  Or at least make the "flip market" more obvious.  I didn't even see it.  Aren't we trying to encourage people to get off of these sketchy exchanges?  Perhaps the ridiculous math involved at first glance is somewhat correlated with the low volume here?

Yep. And did you type that market in the search bar? Thats also why its low volume, we arent even bothering to show it.

I spoke to Valentine yesterday about adding a "MarketPlace" page to the wallet where blocktrades, metaexchange, etc can be listed and he indicated that it shouldn't be difficult to add. Hopefully we will see something like this soon.

Also, if there are other suggestions for the name of such a page, please post your idea about it.

Awesome! The name of it should be something like "Deposit BTC" / "Deposit at Metaexchange" etc, i.e. it should mirror as closely as possible the experience at bter.com.

Btw who is Valentine?

General Discussion / Can we have a mumble this friday?

Can we have a mumble this Friday with Bytemaster?

I want to hear whats going on. Did toast accept that job at google afterall? (sorry but my mind just starts to wonder with all this silence). I wouldnt blame him either given the current price.

And to keep the "official" client neutral .. a plugin system should be added such that you can "install" metaexchange or other bridges/gateways as addon ..

alternatively, metaexchange could host it's own wallet having a bridge from BTC built in! @monsterer

I think metaexchange has earned a place inside the client, at least on the wallet.bitshares.org one.

I agree with the OP - there are still too many steps relative to a centralized exchange. We need to be as seamless as possible.

General Discussion / Idea: Every other exchange has a trollbox
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:22:09 pm »
If you go to bter or btc-e or cryptsy, the thing they all have is a trollbox.

This is why wallet.bitshares.org should have one:

-They allow new users to help each other with the basics.
-They give the impression of activity.
-They are fun and make people want to stick around when they are not trading.

We have a great website that almost looks just like a regular crypto exchange, except it has no trollbox.

Back when we used to do mumbles, Bytemaster was asking for ways to make BitShares fun. I think this is it :)

I can always test it with 3x3 to see if it looks ok.

Sounds great!

This would actually be a good move. Why the hell don't we have that as the internal market?
Maybe more people would use Bitshares if we did.

It is one internal market, we just arent showing/promoting it. Im not sure what you mean by THE internal market since the BTS token is the only thing that exists initially.

I agree with mf-tzo that we could show other cross markets too such as BitUSD:BitEUR. svk was worried about having too many markets on the page - maybe after the first 6 BTS markets we could have one row of 3 cross markets. A 3x3 grid would look good: BitBTC:BitUSD, BitEUR:BitUSD and BitGLD:BitUSD.

Like you say it's a one-liner. I'm open to changing it, but I prefer to keep 6 markets in the featured list, so we'd need to replace one of the old ones. If we were to do this I think bitEUR would be the obvious market to replace.

We could also allow the users to select their preferred market, either through a drop-down or simply linking it to the recent markets list (show the 6 most recent markets for example).

Making it dynamic based on volume is expensive in terms of resources because this information is not available directly from the client and would need to be calculated by looping over all the thousands of market combinations..

Thanks svk!

Making it dynamic is not needed right now. We want to focus our user's attention (and money) on the key markets. Yes a history of preferred markets is great for experienced users, but new users (and viewers of the website) need to be shown what to look at first.

If you have to take 1 away then yes I agree sacrifice bitEUR. BitBTC:BitUSD is way more important.

Once this takes off people will ask themselves "why am I still leaving my money on BitStamp where it can be hacked, AND is not earning me any interest?"

General Discussion / Poll: List BitBTC:BitUSD as a Featured Market
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:16:14 am »
I posted this buried in another thread but it deserves its own thread IMHO. Sorry if this is boring but I just get so frustrated with the price and I see this as a way to keep people using our blockchain.

Can we make the BitBTC:BitUSD market one of the featured markets? It doesnt matter if it has low-volume right now, people need to know about it before they will use it. BitShares is after all supposed to be a way to trade Bitcoin without counterparty risk, and people overwhelmingly want to do that with the cost basis in dollars, not in BTS.

Our competitors are thinking about how to write a contract for it: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/1435/anyone-interesting-in-options-futures-cfd-market-contract We already have this market setup but for some reason we are not advertising it. Our implementation with the supporting wallet website will of course be better than some random ethereum script.

We need to publicize this market everywhere: https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/market/BitBTC:BitUSD/Guest/buy
Add to that the upcoming bond-market, and the BitBTC:BitUSD market will be impossible for traders to ignore BitShares because its so useful.

The change is a one-liner (I tested it locally):
Code: [Select]
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitUSD:#{main_asset.symbol}"
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitCNY:#{main_asset.symbol}"
...
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitBTC:BitUSD"

General Discussion / Re: What going on?
« on: March 15, 2015, 08:57:04 pm »
Mike youre right to ask questions. These "public interaction policies" from a so-called professional PR man are retarded. Compare whats going on here with Ethereum: even though their lead developer Gavin Wood is coding like mad, he still maintains a great public profile and gives talks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAwxZ43Ix1s

If someone were to ask me would I buy BTS right now, I would say no because their core developers have the same public profile as Nxt. I dont care if I can find out everything on github, thats not gonna stop the price nosediving.

General Discussion / Re: The BitShares Hosted Web Wallet is ready...

jcalfee Here is more low-hanging fruit: Can you make the BitBTC:BitUSD market one of the featured markets? It doesnt matter if it has low-volume right now, people need to know about it before they will use it.

Edit: it looks like a one-liner:

Code: [Select]
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitUSD:#{main_asset.symbol}"
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitCNY:#{main_asset.symbol}"
...
$scope.featured_markets.push "BitBTC:BitUSD"

Edit 2: There is a huge market for speculating on BTC on a blockchain with the cost basis in dollars. Our competitors are thinking about how to write a contract for it: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/1435/anyone-interesting-in-options-futures-cfd-market-contract We already have this market setup but for some bizarre reason we are not advertising it. Please someone tell me why.

Edit 3: I checked and that bit of code does work.

Wahoo now everyone can share this url:

https://wallet.bitshares.org/#/market/BitBTC:BitUSD/Guest/buy

Which is awesome because we can easily show that BitShares is the safest place to trade bitcoin. Nice one James!

Now if only we could increase the volume on that market...

Ar it is working, there was just a bug in my code.

Thanks.
