STAN "So, from our perspective, we can now do exciting new things with 10% of the resources it took to do the first one.  And so can everyone else with a vision.  Each can have its own brand and business model at a fraction of the startup costs.

As a general purpose platform, BitShares is obviously much more useful and lower risk today than it was back when it was just a white paper.  "

Perhaps we need a clear and comprehensive white paper for everyone to reference or perhaps we just need a few good businesses to take us up and use as good examples. I can't help but feel sometimes were struggling to get the word out of exactly what we are, what exactly we can do etc. for example, some sort of sandbox area where we could have an example business, ACME, built on bitshares with well documented steps and references for others to follow. Like a 1, 2, 3 step by step guide using the platform. (Full disclosure .. Before I get ridiculed by the devs, I am not technical at all but as a layman how would I go about creating a business).

It seems to me that several people in the bitcoin community have mentioned that our technology is great. Bitshares to do things theirs cant. The same for Ethereum. I think everyone agrees that the technology improved dramatically from bitshares 1.0 to 2.0, yet our market cap went down. Also, we seem to be consistently overlooked by the press each and every time. We dont have devs knocking down our doors even though the technology has been out there for a while now.

It makes me wonder if we need to ask some fundamental questions rather than just focusing on the UI or a particular new feature. Why is our platform essentially being overlooked? Why are the devs not getting involved like they do for ethereum? Why is our market cap not recovering? Is it perceived that one group has too much control? Is it our overall vision? Is it our documentation? Is there too much change? Is it not user friendly enough?

I don't know the answer but i would like to hear others opinions.

"I would actively support a FBA to integrate the Ethereum VM into BitShares. Done properly this would have significant advantages over the current Ethereum blockchain" BM

I think this is a very good approach +5%

I think BM is right here. I did not agree at first, but think about it for a second - look at StartCoin that max keiser started. StartJoin is all about helping young people start a business with community backing. Its taking off because of the idea behind it and look at the multiple aspects to it that are all professionally done.

I see frustration here. I think we should focus on what others have suggested and compile a list of what needs to be finished and tackle these one by one as quickly as possible. Jakub deserves a lot of credit here with the UI.

I think we need that to try regain some traction and shake off the feeling of never quite being out of development. Then move on with the innovation.

My 2 cents

Here's the problem.  Most people, and i'm going to guess over 90%, are here to try to leverage the overall move of the public to blockchain tech.  They are trying to profit by beating the banks.  They are trying to leverage the technical  superiority of bitshares compared to bitcoin to achieve a higher beta return.

What you are talking about is head in the clouds philisophical type of stuff that these 90% are not interested in.  You might not think that is the case based on reading the forums, but these people are voting with their feet and leaving bitshares.

Bitshares was in the great position to be a decentralized exchange, with increased security, and 0% chance of being mf globaled.  The amount of traders that would have embraced this would have been huge... i personally know very influential traders that fear that the markets will be taken away within the next 10 years.  With bts that would have been impossible.  All we had to do was grow that business... but we killed our golden goose.  Unable to build and grow what could have been the cornerstone of your new free society.  It's a lack of focus, which has been bitshares calling card for over a year now.

I hate what has happened to bitshares.  It's some ideological play pen for large holders and founders at the expense of the smaller holders.  I'm going to continue to hold by bts because maybe I'm missing something bigger... but when I see core dev's selling all their personal holdings I fear I should do the same.

Philosophy is great, but what people, including me, are interested is real business. So what's our business plan for 2016? DEX? If so, please focus on exchange features (like BSIP 4) first. Banking based on blockchain? Then PR to bankers and make agreement with real banks.

THIS ^^^^

"For too long BitShares has been evolving without any clearly and consistently stated purpose or direction."

The reason why it was hard for me and others to contribute to anything. Everything seems to happen randomly with Bitshares and with a lack of clear priorities.

It is my new years resolution to do a much better job communicating and leading than I have in the past year.

While i welcome the libertarian discussion i really do think it should be the non-focal point. Politics is so divisive (remember ron paul being boo'ed at republican debates?) and i think we should focus on our competitive advantage / business advantages.  2016 should be about regaining our lost mkt cap (a better UI, more innovation etc).

just my 2 cents.

Hi Ronnie- i love the video by the way, but i have a question. In there is the example of trading apple stock for copper. I didnt think we were able to buy stock shares yet. This would be something that would be huge because i would like to buy gold mining stocks for example. Rather than use TDAmeritrade, i would MUCH prefer to use the blockchain and trade for example, USD for SANDSTORM Gold or SilverWheaton.

Thanks

Damn :o
Stock brokerage that runs on the blockchain.
Highly possible if AML/Kyc challenges are tackled.
CCEDK is in a perfect position to do this.

Not sure if Ronny is doing it though.
Beautiful concept none the less.

Whitelisting procedure and introdution as well as the ability to use the fiat gateway will be started monday next week first week of 2016. It is top priority to be implemented and functional already this first week, so I expect and hope for a great start of this New Year.

Please can you tell us how the Whitelisting procedure and introduction works ronnie.

General Discussion / Re: POLL: Why are you still hodling BTS?
« on: December 25, 2015, 01:35:43 am »
I am hodling because I understand the tech and know that there is not a single competitor having solved as many problems as graphene/bitshares.
This tech is so amazing and the devs have put so much flexibility and imho people simply dont understand it yet ..

I hold on because I believe in the cause and the pursuit of free market solutions to securing life, liberty, and property.

We are constantly learning and improving. Crypto isn't currently ready for the main stream.  No one has quite figured it out yet.

Graphene and BitShares is an amazing foundation.  We just need to keep focus on a higher purpose and not get caught up in "price".

CNX is 110% behind BitShares and is dropping any and all distractions other than improving the BitShares ecosystem.

Well said Dan. Time for a break. Lets hope 2016 sees more adoption to go along with your teams continual innovation.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Fiat gateway will be available first/second week of January and only people whitelisted in the sense that they have been validated on CCEDK will be able to have access to any of the below mentioned features. In coming week I will be doing a mailout telling all interested parties who wish to be able to trade with fiatpegged crypto what are the procedures needed prior to making this fully functional on platform.

Paypal is done and ready on CCEDk but awaiting Paypal tech department for final go. Expected available early january

Ripple gateway is fully integrated and done on CCEDK waiting for validation, expected to be settled in coming days, and then ready for launch early january

Nanocard is being activated on the base of three steps right now on CCEDK.

1st is the fiat version, meaniing you are already now able to order and activate a debit card on CCEDK based on fiat.
2nd step, is when seasons holidays are over early january, as bitcoin support will be added for a bitcoin activated card to work.
3rd step is expected end of january and will involve adding other crypto as support for NanoCard, like OBITS, BTS, NBT to begin with.

All of above is on CCEDK

Once multisig function is fully working on OpenLedger we will will then be able to add all of the above there as well, and that part is not in the hands of me or CCEDK, but is in the hands of the BitShares community and shareholders, and as far as I know it is not yet operational, but maybe I am wrong.

We will need a group of people to assist once the multisig part will be possible to connect.

... so you have not been busy at all then ronnie  :P  This is all very good news and much kudos to you sir  +5%
