General Discussion / Re: short / medium term price speculation for BTSX
« on: November 06, 2014, 04:32:04 am »
Be careful what you wish for. This could happen due to massive printing of USD, and you could still be better off now than then :)

People have been saying that for years, and yet inflation has been low.   If it wasnt for the USD money printing we probably wouldve been in a deflationary depression this whole time.

I'm so tired of hearing the "<investment> will be worth tons of $$$, but that will just buy a loaf of bread" BS.  3% a year inflation in USD does not result in it costing hundreds of dollars to buy a loaf of bread in a decade.

Just to clarify, it was a joke. And what I was getting at was that I think it is far more likely you will see hyperinflation than BTS go to $10. That's all.

Also the difficulty of Proof of Bread has been increased a lot. They now've got really efficient machines converting  3 Terra Grains/second into flour. :)

Why 7% of 10%? PTS hasn't gone anywhere. If a DAC wants to air drop 10% PTS they still can.
Exactly.  And it's already happening:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=848182.0;all

All this FUD about PTS/AGS death is getting old

You can't be serious. :)

AGS cannot be 'killed' because it's a public receipt of donations for development.  PTS will continue to live after 11.05.  Aren't I3 salaries are securitized in PTS, too?

Yeah, but instead of 10% of all future DACs, PTS and AGS will now be getting 7% of 10% or... 0.7%. That's I think the biggest blow to the PTS/AGS holders. That of course is countered by the fact that they get to have a bunch of BTS thrown at them.

While I agree with the change, it is perceived by many as an abuse of power, and makes people question what else might change in the future.

I think it is a step in the right direction, but can't say I am happy with how it was achieved.

Hold for two years.

Re-evaluate when BTS is $1-$10.

Then hold again.

Isn't the idea of voting for a delegate, what would incentivize good contributions going forward? I mean if a delegate doesn't perform they're out.

Which means there is intrinsic value in PTS itself, outside the merger. And wasn't there another airdrop besides PLAY, that PTS is expecting as well?

General Discussion / Re: Decentralized Supercomputer
« on: November 05, 2014, 01:13:58 am »
For a certain class of problems this works.... but where it fails:

1) trusting strangers with your data / programs means it will not be usable by industry
2) I doubt it will be more cost effective than centralized alternatives.

That's a very narrow-minded view.

1) Data can be anonymized and computation can still be distributed and performed for many of the problems that need it.
2) I'm sure it can compete with Amazon EC2, for which people pay a lot more than the electricity cost.

Other use cases: bootstrapping a test network, experiments in the crypto space - that's huge, if I need real 1000 nodes to test a new algorithm with for a day or two.

EDIT: You can also incentivize and reward nodes to run if your network takes off using this system - it's an alternative to the delegate reward approach.

If I remember correctly PLAY will use the PTS snapshot.

You guys don't understand how Yubikey works. It requires a centralized server that knows the secret and verifies it. Not that it can't be done with crypto, but you will still need to put your trust in a centralized entity. I'd much rather have an app that receives all transaction details over the net and shows it to you on your phone, where you can then decide whether to sign it or not. So even if your PC is compromised you never ever have your private keys exposed on it.

Wow my expected level of 0.000025 might be hit a lot sooner than I thought.

def a buyers market here

Yeah I would definitely consider buying heavily below 0.00003

And by the way this is a problem with all crypto. I think a main reason crypto hasn't become mainstream yet.

And this is why a hardware device approving all transactions is a must. Something like Trezor or even if it is just a phone app to perform the digital signatures. Desktops are so easy to hack. Mind telling us what operating system you use. Running a Linux machine might be safer and building everything from code instead of downloading unsafe executables.

The merger is a good thing long run. The proposals are good. However from experience and track record it will take much longer than people expect. Could be 2-3 years before it all happens and some won't be prepared to wait that long they will dump. Also competition might outplace BTSX so risks are there
