Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Paid Workers Proposal for Review
« on: May 12, 2015, 04:29:33 am »
The number of Witnesses and Delegates is directly voted upon by the stakeholders.    Each stakeholder must vote for at least as many Witnesses and Delegates as they believe the system should have.   The number of witnesses/delegates is defined such that at least 50% of voting shareholders believe there is sufficient decentralization.

Is this a good moment to reintroduce the idea of partial "witness" randomization?

TL/DR

Just kidding :P I read it and if I wasn't already a Bitshares junkie, I still would've no clue what's it all about.

If you're still editing it, please cut it in half. All the  historical stuff is unnecessary noise.

General Discussion / Re: BitAssets 2.0 (formally 3.0)

Does this system assume USD<>BitUSD gateways/markets?

In that case it would seem to me that Bitassets 1.0 is a more resilient system as it only assumes itself (Bitshares internal exchange) and a decentralized data feed.

Resiliency and independence from the outside world is the essence of cryptocurrency.
Without it we can just use the damn bank account.

What does the Bytemaster think about the idea of tying vesting rate to market cap? This wouldn't change the overall supply of shares, just move them in time to when the market can better deal with dilution. It'd also dampen price swings.

So what does silver do that gold doesn't?

Let me elaborate: the 'alternative' financial media have been feeding us the story about the imminent silver breakout and historical silver/gold ratio for the better part of the last decade.

But logically, what is the case for silver in a digital era?

I could understand silver having monetary component of value when money had to be physically handled in day to day commerce and people needed something for small transactions.
But if  someone was to go back to using commodity money today it would more than likely be infinitely divisible electronic money backed by physical holding in a vault somewhere. In that case you might as well use gold, or some basket of commodities, indexes, etc. There's just nothing unique or magical about silver anymore.

I don't think transaction velocity has anything to do with it. What is the transaction velocity of stocks and commodities?

What we're seeing is simply supply outpacing demand.

Bitcoin can't do anything about it but Bitshares could introduce variable rate of vesting based on market cap.

I'm surprised some of the BitShares devs/BM weren't approached in some capacity.

Byrne was pretty clear in an LTB interview that he hated the centralized, corporate approach of certain projects. I suspect this fiasco was the primary reason for i3's sudden shift to the community lingo.

the perception that BTS can not be trusted to stick with things.

Stick with what? Developers randomly screwing with supply? The loss of confidence caused by that move is probably irreversible. This proposal doesn't change supply, just tries to dampen the damage.

I dont know that freezing vesting is really an option.  It looks like we are just changing things yet again in a way that screws some people.

Who are those people that are owed vested funds, but don't already own a shitload of BTS and absolutely can't wait a bit until the market recovers? Do they prefer being paid worthless BTS right now or strong BTS in two years?

Tying the rate of vesting to market cap will ensure that inflation is introduced only when the market can handle it. It'll additionally act as a price stabilization mechanism.

Freeze all vesting. Resume in 24 months conditional on market cap and at much slower pace.

stats of the machine

i5 2310
installed memorry 16gb (3.46 usable)
32 bit OS

You're killing me man. All that expensive RAM wasted on a 32bit Windows... As you can see it can only use below 4 GB.

You need to upgrade to 64bit (you can do this within the same license).

System requirements for Bitshares should list 64bit system, since the program is essentially unusable with 4GB of RAM anyway.

Thanks for the input. The RAM is not wasted. I have lots of hard drives using this computers hardware some of them make better use of it.

Hard drives have nothing to do with it. Unless you're talking about some type of virtualized environment, you're NOT using that RAM. Nothing in your system is able to address the space above 4GB. The extra 12 GB are just sitting there dormant.

General Discussion / Re: Current plans on delegate pay?

Delegate pay is a non-problem compared to the vested funds being released from the "merger". I think the community would much rather see that side being addressed.  (I haven't listened to the session yet)

Just a quick update: at the request of mastercard, Net+ cards don't work with money transferred into neteller with bitcoin. Apparently "my" EUR on neteller account is different than some other EUR based on their origin. Those centralized institutions are destroying the fungibility of money.
