General Discussion / Re: How can we short BitUSD?
« on: September 08, 2014, 02:07:40 am »
Alright, that makes sense. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything obvious. So it seems for at least the short term future shorts will be hard as heck to get filled, seeing as how the BTSX market looks to be on a nice uptrend lol.

General Discussion / How can we short BitUSD?
« on: September 08, 2014, 01:43:06 am »
I've been trying to short BitUSD for the past few days now, but I'm finding it impossible to stay above the peg while at the same time attracting bidders. All the asks below me get filled until the peg moves lower, making it very hard to fill a short. I heard mention of being able to short below the peg if you pay some fees, but I'm not seeing any options for this. Am I missing anything obvious?

Hmm...my experience is that I can't short BitUSD no matter what, and it looks like others are having this issue too (there are many shorts looking to sell at prices lower than the highest buy orders, so the buys/sells are overlapping). I can place the short and have it show up on the sell order side, but it refuses to match to the highest bid. The only option is to cancel the short, after which I receive my BTSX back safe and sound.

General Discussion / Re: Is this the time to buy BitUSD?

Well since the time I submitted this post the value of BitUSD has gone up to 38.4 BTSX, which more approximates the current price. Interesting...

General Discussion / Is this the time to buy BitUSD?
« on: August 29, 2014, 01:51:10 pm »
So I'd like to shelter some of my BTSX against the current drop in price, so I'm thinking I would want to buy BitUSD. However, I'm seeing BitUSD currently trading for about $0.029 per BTSX (34 BTSX per BitUSD), whereas the current market price is about $0.021 (0.00004250 BTC per BTSX), which is a pretty significant spread. It almost seems more beneficial to cash out into BTC at this point, with BitUSD having such a significant discount. Thoughts?

Alright, supported on twitter. Handle is the same as my username here and my BTSX account.

Keep it up guys! And thanks!

General Discussion / Re: When will the next BTSX pump and dump happen?

I bought low and missed out on the chance to sell at the peak and increase my position on the dip...hindsight is always 20/20. Happy being a long-term hodler though, what with Bitshares' future and all.  :D

This may be a noob question, but what exactly is needed from Ripple/Stellar in order to complete the Bitshares ecosystem? What do they offer that Bitshares is currently unable to provide?

Personally I'm pretty sure the price drop is a natural correction after Bitshares' big new feature (bitassets) was finally released. People are so used to major corrections after a big, hyped up feature releases that it almost becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy to see a 50% correction. They still seem to be stuck in the world of alt-coin p&d movements...hoping to see them caught off guard when Bitshares climbs again, as soon as people realize the incredible value/possibilities being offered here.

General Discussion / How big a threat is the SEC?
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:47:37 pm »
While doing my usual perusal of "anti-Bitshares" posts on the forums, one remark caught my eye. Some are of the opinion that the SEC will be ready to crack down on Bitshares as soon as it grows large enough to catch notice, due to illegal securities trading. My thought had been that since Bitshares is more of a "prediction market" in that the underlying assets are not truly being bought or sold, that this would not be a problem. However, I am not well versed in securities law nor am I sure that I entirely understand what is being bought or sold in these prediction markets, so I would definitely like to hear some thoughts on this matter from those more knowledgeable than I. Is the SEC ban hammer a threat?

I too can't stand the 1% withdrawal fee...it feels like I'm being coerced to keep my BTSX on their exchange instead of my wallet, or I'll have to pay up to keep my coins safe in my possession. But the risks of staying on an exchange nowadays are just too great, so I just had to pay the fee. In the future if I decide to cash out, it will probably be into BitUSD through the wallet, so I have effectively lost 1% of my coins.

Very uncool.

General Discussion / Is this price sustainable?
« on: August 22, 2014, 10:58:24 am »
I fully believe in Bitshares and its future potential...but the current price rise has me worried about a bubble that may end up crashing hard. Is it safe to rise like this? Just need a little reassurance...  :-\
