General Discussion / 5 million BTSX sell wall
« on: October 16, 2014, 05:02:49 pm »
There's a wall of over 5 million BTSX over on the Chinese Yunbi exchange at 0.18 CNY...roughly $0.029 each or $148,000 worth.

Insane.

I was hoping I'd be able to keep my BitUSD shorts open for a few months...but hot damn is there a lot of Chinese sell pressure lately. At the rate we're going, I'm fairly sure all my shorts will be wiped soon. Fingers crossed...

Some super exciting news in the next few days would be much appreciated, lol.

Welp, this has gotten way too philosophical/over the head for me. Interesting thoughts.

My perspective: I just roll with life as it comes at me. Worked well enough so far.

General Discussion / Will demand for BitShares Music drive BTSX price?
« on: October 14, 2014, 03:07:46 pm »
Alright, so I'm thinking: say I have $50 to invest right now, into either BTSX at a market cap of 55 million or NOTE at a market cap of ~2.5 million (per tonyk in another thread). As demand for BitShares Music picks up, won't this inevitably drive the price of BTSX, since BitShares Music makes use of BitUSD for purchases, etc? Also, hype for BitShares Music (especially as the presale draws to a close) will probably simultaneously be a driver for BTSX hype, a beautiful synergy-type effect. I see huge potential in PeerTracks and the like, but I still feel that the overall gains will be felt by BTSX as this is where all the value essentially funnels into. Thoughts?

I may go 50/50 just to see what happens, lol...

Almost sounds like he's whispering "buy BitShares instead"...

I personally think the potential flood-gate for onboarding users is the yield.
I don't think there is an institution in the entire world that is in a position to offer something like that right now.
And Dan & Co. have figured out how to do that.  Congratulations.

That said, for it to work it will have to be really, really, REALLY dumbed down.
I think when a person works in a particular field for some time everything starts to look very easy and second nature.
But I personally don't know anyone over 60 who does online banking for example.
I hope the real capabilities of the demographics is being well considered.
Of the aforementioned baby-boomer generation, something like downloading and installing a client is probably already a huge overestimation of what the majority will know how or be willing to do.

+5%. I really don't understand why baby boomers are so change-averse, but from my observations it is pretty much always the case. I feel like I'll still be open to new ideas when I'm 60...or will there come a point where I'll transform into an idea-fearing old coot as well?

That is truly terrifying.

Is it 100% premined or something? Surely no one's actually buying this...

Lol I like how it's market cap jumped nearly 500% in an hour earlier today.

General Discussion / Re: BitNu - Funding BTSX without Inflation...
« on: October 08, 2014, 09:06:35 pm »
The proposal, the joke and the criticisms hide the simple truth at the core of this issue: That this is an arms race with survival at stake, and that our weapons of war are inflation, interest rates, etc.

Yes.  And at present, here is what an outsider with no skin in the game is seeing:
Nubits is crushing bitUSD in terms of use (volume, market cap).
Bitshares supporters just sit on their forum and laugh at NuBits and call it a ponzi and make jokes.

Harsh...but unfortunately very true.

Looking at that 21k wall on bitstamp at 3k, and all the tons of small buys into it, I'm like:  "The boss has 21000 hp, go dps!" :D

16 hours later -- BTC is approaching $300. Madness. When will it end?

...I just hope it doesn't take BTSX down with it. BTSX is down, but not nearly as bad as BTC.

I agree 1000% with the OP. The simpler the better is very important when it comes to marketing. I would absolutely love for BTSX to just be "BitShares". Bitcoin ---> BitShares. A perfect transition. The X sounds "xtreme", immature, and kind of like porn, like OP mentioned.

I'm sure it'd be difficult to transition everything...but I truly think it'd be worth it.

From a BitcoinTalk thread earlier today:

Quote from: BitJohn

The proto-shares Bitshares thing for us was a mess. I mean snapshots were a new concept at the time. Cryptsy was hit by the wall street journal article rush 5000 new customers a day at that time. Support was swamped we could not hire fast enough! When we were contacted the time frame to implement was just to short. The only fair thing we decided we could do was announce that we would not be participating and that folks would have to withdraw.

I finally met Daniel Larimer at inside Bitcoin in NY where he broke it all down and I expressed to him that if only we could have gotten together sooner...

So love the concept of Bitshares! But as you can see we have yet to add it as an option since we could not credit the customers from the first snapshot.

I mean should we at this point? I get requests for bitshares and all the variations we just have not felt right adding them after the missed snapshot.

*One additional note if your a developer to properly integrate a massive coin/wallet change and ensure security we need more than 24/48 hours.

Should we try to get them to add Bitshares?

General Discussion / Re: mesh networking, last mile problem, and BTSX
« on: October 02, 2014, 07:34:52 pm »
Sounds like a stock/commodity exchange.  Guess what:  we already have those.  Go get yourself an e*trade account.

Guess what we already have banks too. Go get yourself an bank account ......Bitcoin what the heck we need that!!!!
Since when you are trading CNY in stock/commodity exchange ??

Not to mention the fees for e*trade:

Min. Initial Deposit
 $500.00

Stock Trading
 $9.99 per trade
$7.99 per trade, if you make over 600 trades per year

Options Trading
 $9.99 per trade + $0.75 per contract
$7.99 per trade + $0.75 per contract, if you make over 50 trades per year

Pretty sure BTSX would have that beat.
