@Empirical1

Let's market the hell out of a product that does not work yet.
So everybody can try a TV with no screen, end never want to hear about it again.

+5% Yes I hope this is the case.  Personally I think BTSX is brilliant. I dont think it can go much lower. So I'm buying more nearly everyday and I'm hoping there are good things in the pipeline. I thought the LTB interview was brilliant but as I haven't seen much else tangible yet, I won't be convinced BitShares can market something till I see it.

I pretty much agree with most of this...however I can understand the reluctance to put a lot of effort/money into marketing something that is still missing key features.  I think they just  couldn't wait any longer to produce something to show positive progress and that the product is worthy of continued support but not a full-on marketing blitz.  Hopefully it gives some of us  more time to get in.

triple post!

just wanted to say that the animations are fantastic, easy to follow, and go very well with the script.

and one final suggestion: at around the 28 second mark you finish saying "private key" and there is a few seconds of down time til the animation zooms in and you begin your next sentence.

i do not think private key is a well known term among most people. maybe you could use that blank audio space as on opportunity to fill the knowledge gap by adding something like

"you can only lose control when you choose to share your private key. This is very similar to sharing a password and should be avoided."

Agree. Password or Secret Word/Phrase are possible substitutes.

This meeting was not about bringing in whales, it was about bringing in partners to help reach our target audience.   Sure these guys have money, but what we value more than their money is their ability to drive SEO and sales over the internet in a manner that was able to earn them more than the market cap of BTSX.   These guys are now in our camp, own BTS X and PTS, and are actively developing a plan to apply their internet marketing skills toward driving the price through greater awareness.

So what has Brian done?  He has helps us build friendships with the people that have skills we need.  This is far better than having him attempt to do these things himself.

Why does it take so long?  Because it is like finding developers and finding other talent, it just takes months to do.  Now that BTS X is out the marketers have a much easier job and something tangible to sell.  Watch out.

I have a suggestion.
Dan, perhaps you should think of restructuring the hierarchy of roles and responsibilities then. It sounds like Brian is providing more of a business development or human resources role and not a Director of Marketing role. It seems obvious at this point that the person in charge of directing the marketing of something as complex bitshares needs to have a strong authority and strategy over all communication channels and community building, and intimate understanding and devotion to digital marketing (ie: a Bytemaster or Toast dedicated to marketing).

Perhaps it is simply a matter of a wrong title and the unfair expectations that are attached to it.

I will volunteer a section on my alternative news site if anyone wants to register on my site and PM me with their registration name I will make them an author so they can post articles.  Site is in my profile.  I have started a crypto section with some info on PTS and Bitshares but I don't have much time to write.

I am also willing to setup and maintain a specific Joomla site for the community but I don't have much time to author articles or make extensive customizations.  Just PM me Bytemaster if you want to go to that level.

If I may suggest, to ensure long term involvement and participation from established businesses. Make sure people with .com domains can somehow claim them. This will eliminate squatting names like Facebook, Microsoft, etc. perhaps if they can digitally sign using the DNS records you can award to their public key. Think long term 5 years from now.

General Discussion / Re: Clarifications about BTS X plan
« on: July 31, 2014, 11:50:00 pm »
At some point I am going to have to devote myself to the study of clarity among the masses of people that are half-paying attention.   1000's of options is a real mess, people say they want choices, but tend to choose Apple which is famous for removing choices.    People say they want freedom, but then choose tyranny to avoid having to think for themselves.

Understanding this is likely as important as economics and is something we have clearly not mastered.

One chain that upgrades over time is clearly the most simple approach you can have.

Got that one right my friend!!

This trip we secured solid marketing partnerships.  I wouldn't expect anything visible for a few months.

These guys have proven track records and will get us where we need to go.

Brian's talent is finding the best and I am very impressed with the work these guys have done.

ah, I did not know you couldn't increase your fee!!  Should have read the fine print.  :(

Oh well, I didn't do it to earn any money but figured I could always increase it to cover costs.  I agree that it would be good  to have someway to do it.  Maybe allow 1 change every quarter or something like that.

General Discussion / Re: Delegate Observations
« on: July 31, 2014, 12:54:03 am »
Couple questions:

1. How do  you check delegate latency
2. What does the ntp_error mean?  What is good and what is bad?

I am a little  confused about something.   I saw postings recently that stated a change  was maid so that those of us  who were in the snapshot would have some liquid LTS.  I don't seem to see any in my wallet (already done -salvagewallet). Closest I see  to usable LTS  says  it will "mature" in 35,000 blocks.  When is that?

Recent change made all small balances (100 or less) liquid but most AGS/PTS/MMC are larger than 100 - but post your LTS address, I'll send you some to play around with

Okay.  Here's one: LWCu4zqh5Cyc33e1SGcsVk9SPnxtMZqU7U

Thanks.

I notice I sometimes receive huge early morning spikes in network traffic...I also notice that bter seems to do their  delayed withdraws overnight.  Just an observation.

General Discussion / Re: Legal Trouble for Delegates
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:40:13 am »
Yeah, that is why I dislike the finite number of delegates on a decentralized network. Maybe we can enable infinite number of delegates, if anybody want to be one and have clients support them to do so?

This would screw up the economics.  Delegates are currently barely a break even proposition.

FYI, you may need to run with -salvagewallet option to recover your LTS!!
