Technical Support / Re: robohash discrepancies
« on: January 27, 2015, 07:26:56 am »
<- that thing changed over night :( should be violet and fat 8)

It's a link to robohash.org

^^I still see a violet and fat thing here by your forum name. ..?  When I type 'xeroc' in at robohash.org I see a white thing with yellow eyes.

In the client, my robohash has changed only on the account overview page, is the same old one on other pages...

Edit: Now it's changed. What is up with that!!

PTS is held in the wallet you used in this thread to register your PTS account.

emailtooaj, when trying to add you same thing happened as below:

Thom, when trying to add you, I got the error "certificate load failed."  I noticed that you are using the old key format that is loaded automatically.  Could you try going to settings>profile>certificate and uncheck "use old key format" then repaste that key here?

Thanks for posting this article.

I'd also never heard of Zoe Keating, and am glad you've introduced me to her beautiful music!

Thank you, but any chance of using something other than dropbox for this? Google Drive for example? It's impossible to download or listen to from my phone, I need to download it on my computer and then transfer to the phone. Chrome on Android, clicking download just gives me an empty file..

worth repeating:

They want to know HOW THIS HELPS THEM!

To be able to electronically send something of value that's dependably trustworthy, to anyone, anywhere in the world, instantly, and for almost zero cost? Oh, and it has a stable value and you can earn a return for holding it?

Holy shit, sign me up. Because that solves SEVEN problems at least and no one else has affordably combined more than two or three of those before.

This is disruptive. It is transformative. It is superior to anything else out there. We MUST be able to sell this to normal people. The other crypto people can hang onto their camps for now; they will catch on as the price increases.

General Discussion / Re: Reviving the Keyhotee Dream

If we can get over the "not developed here" factor, I think it would be wise to support development of this project just as we would support Keyhotee were it still on the table.  Our current developers just don't have the bandwidth to build a competing communication and social platform with everything else on their plates, and RetroShare has several very dedicated developers who have been working on it for long time.

This seems like a very good idea.

Delegates could really work well for so many things.

I agree that delegates could work well for many things.  But as soon as we begin talking about something like "insurance delegates" many other questions arise.  Who becomes the arbiter of decisions?  The delegate?  The community?  The largest stakeholders?  How do our answers to that question square with our values around justice, and liberty?

And if our answer has anything to do with resolving it on a forum that resides on a centralized server, then what?  How robust is our solution to the inevitable problems that will arise and grow in number with a growing user base?  How much can be written into code?

What about when someone like educatedwarrior has his account hacked?  Some linux enthusiasts might say that if you're using windows it's fair game.  Who decides?

And what of the OP?  Is it the responsibility of the one sending to an address to first ensure the accuracy of the address, or is the responsibility with recipient, whether they be a con artist or not?  Or is it the responsibility of the community?

I, at a human/empathic level, would like to see the funds restored to the original sender.  Also, at a human/community level, I think this situation brings up many questions that we should be considering and discussing on a broader scale.

“Make email an address for sending money with your coin and dont have it on the blockchain

This is an interesting idea, but how do you envision it being implemented and maintained without some kind of distributed ledger?

So I was able to add @Frodo.  Trying to add @fluxer555 failed.  Not sure about the others listed above yet.

This software definitely looks interesting.  Secure messaging, forums, and file transfers all in one place.  What's not to like?

I noticed on the Electronic Frontier Foundation's secure messaging scorecard that the only flaw for retroshare was that there hadn't been a recent code audit.  @Troglodactyl, do you know if there is a plan for an independent review of the code in the near future?

I especially like your choice of models and photo shoot settings.   8)

The t-shirts look great too!

We're definitely open to suggestions from the community, so thanks for the feedback!

You have me thinking of crocheted/knitted beanies with the bitshares logo on the crown.... if only I were quicker with yarn and hook...

Are we expecting this to happen?  :D

I'm also wondering how this sort of unfortunate issue will be addressed, now and in the future.  Particularly, I'm interested in how the NAP (non-aggression principle) or the Golden Principle might be applied in this situation, and even if people think it an appropriate circumstance to do so?

What is the best course of action - or what actions are even available in a decentralized network such as bitshares?

Social pressure?
Shunning?
Blacklising of account?  (what would this look like in practice?)
Community crowdfunding to restore the missing balance?
Or...?
