General Discussion / Re: BTS long term support
« on: January 16, 2015, 01:07:27 am »
Bitcoin had a nice rise today. Seems like it could go lower though as there is a lot of uncertainty right now. If it breaks below $200 we could see another dump.

I am not a trader, just my opinion.

Should people sell BTS to buy bitUSD until the bloodbath ends?

Exactly. We can only "guess" what *may *happen to the price. Nobody knows for sure. This is why short term trading is gambling unless you are a professional. It is much better to pick a long term investment and just hold for 2-3 years instead of day trading as a newbie.

Haha thanks. It's just that the price has been going so low...you start to doubt yourself.

Technical Support / New 0.5 version bug
« on: January 15, 2015, 12:43:43 am »
I am getting an error saying to reindex and reset the database. I am using Linux. The client just crashed after I broadcasted a transaction. I was able to do several transactions before it crashed so I m not sure what caused it.

Can you buy bitUSD at the feed price from the short wall?

We now have about $15k short (without price limit). Yes we can.

How do you do that in the wallet? Buy bitUSD from the shorts at feed price....

Can shorting users buy BitUSD on BTER, and then close their positions inside their own wallet by combining this BitUSD with their BitUSD shorts?

You should be able to withdraw the bitUSD to your wallet from BTER.

ah .. I see ..
If you also want the GUI version compiled then you need those additional steps:
Code: [Select]
make forcebuildweb
make BitShares

# install binaries etc..
sudo cp programs/qt_wallet/bin/BitShares /usr/local/bin/
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/share/icons/
sudo cp programs/qt_wallet/images/qtapp80.png /usr/local/share/icons/BitShares.png
sudo cp programs/qt_wallet/BitShares.desktop /usr/local/share/applications/

So the instructions you have me won't update the GUI? So I would need to follow those additional commands right?

What does this mean: #install binaries etc?

yes .. assuming your downloaded the source code from github initially .. (git clone)

that's how I upgrade my delegates for ages :P

I followed these instructions to download initially: https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares/blob/master/BUILD_UBUNTU.md

Afair they are going to release binaries for linux too this time

So how would I update using the terminal commands? I already have an existing client. I just need to update.

Code: [Select]
cd <path-to-bitshares>
git pull
git checkout v0.5.0
git submodule update
make

Thanks xeroc. Is that it?
