This is awesome and much needed. A knowledgebase type resource would be very beneficial. I'm tied up with family stuff all day today but I can carve out some time in the next few days to contribute to this or atleast help review.

Perfect mate thank you. You can message me on here or if you want to skype me it's 'chrisconey'.

Hi guys,

I've seen a number of community members who really really want to get busy with BitShares 2 but are just hampered by so much confusion.
This leads to thread after thread as each individual attempts to get their questions answered.

I'd like to begin building a learning resource to provide a bridge into the BitShares universe.

Here is a video I created this morning:
https://uprightsolutions.wistia.com/medias/6odln9deuv

I see this very much as an open source endeavour.

I don't profess to know everything, I'm just the messenger. So experts please watch my video and dispel my ignorance so that I may go through however many iterations are necessary to reach (or get close to) perfection.

While I wait for some replies I might work on my next video :)

I'm thinking it might be better to break the learning into bite size pieces. So instead the above video going through the account section, I could break that into a video per sub-section within the account section.

General Discussion / Re: Worker Proposal to Level Up our Forums? (Poll)
« on: October 18, 2015, 08:53:36 am »
Wouldn't it make more sense to turn the forums into more of a BitShares social network rather than a forum?

The forum approach is fine for us but if the growth of BitShares depends on mass adoption then the ability to engage with the community is crucial.

We could use an open source system like BuddyPress.

I can setup a test site for no cost for a portion of the community to experiment with if there's support for the idea.

Without a real world user test there's no way to know if my idea is an improvement :)

Muse/SoundDAC / Welcome To The Blockchain (The Bitcoin Song)

Have you guys heard this?

I love hip hop so this made me lose my mind:

you guys realize that comparing bts against btc is kind of weird ???

I thought that mate but didn't know where to start with it because it was that daft.

I've managed to get an account with CCEDK now thanks guys.

66
see here https://bitshares.org/deposit/
most use metaexchange and blocktrades. You also have CCEDK

Akado,
I just went through every single one of those gateways and none of them are offering BTS. Perhaps this has something to do with the price dropping i.e. there's less places to buy after the upgrade.

67
I just went to buy some BTS at https://shapeshift.io/ but they have temporarily suspended it.

Where else can I get some BTC exchanged for BTS?

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Lets vote for lower fees!
« on: October 16, 2015, 10:48:59 pm »
Price is never really the issue. The real issue in marketing is the perception of value.

That comes from correctly educating the prospective users.

I vote to keep fees the same and focus on the product.

This idea that every business starts off losing money is a limiting belief.

It is a self fulfilling prophesy.

As an online entrepreneur I'm always asking this question when launching a new business:

"How can we be profitable from day 1?"

How differently do you think things pan out with that mindset?

As opposed to:

"We are going to lose money for the first year anyway so we need to think how are we going to survive?"

And the example of Twitter and Facebook relates to BitShares only in as much as the focus at the beginning was getting as many people using the system as possible.

That's where the similarities end.

The problem for Twitter and Facebook in the early years was the lack of a business model and hence no idea how they were going to generate revenue.

We already have a business model and a revenue stream with BitShares so the real question becomes:

"How do we attract more users to what we've got?"

Normally these thoughts remain in the privacy of my own mind. However now I am a member of this community and want to share my understanding. I made this quick screen recording thinking out loud:

General Discussion / Re: Article on Banx

What do we know?

  • Controversy sells
  • Coinjournal has a crypto donation QR on the website
  • Controversy increases website traffic
  • Website traffic converts to donations

I state each of those items individually as stand alone items. The relationship between them I have no comment about because I don't know.

It's a shame that it's so easy to forget the deep connection that we all have.

Aren't we all lovers of crypto?
Aren't we all drawn to it for the same reason?
Don't we all have similar beliefs about freedom and liberty?

So it's a shame that there's friction within the community when there's enough competition and resistance from the existing world of finance.

Let's each individually hold up the mirror for Coinjournal.

As you read Ian's article, periodically check it against the sites founding principles thus:

Is the writing objective and unbiased?

I'm just asking questions, isn't that how you get to the truth?
Isn't that what journalists are supposedly really after?

DataSecurityNode,

You're right mate. I can see you're welcome grounded in reality :)
The idea of banks and governments stealing your money is just an abstract idea to the average Joe. It's like a distant concept 'you see on the news'.

Your idea of appealing to the more superficial desires of the average Joe is far more likely to get their attention.

+5% << what the hell is this for?

Thom,

Good question.
Fear of having your money stolen by banks and governments would be a strong emotional motivator I'd say.

'Protect your wealth with a blockchain' type of thing.

Thank you both.
The recording part is actually the easiest and the quickest bit. The bit that takes the time is preparing the content.

It took me a couple of days to set it up but I enjoyed doing it.
I'll be hunting around the forums for more questions to create videos from :D
