No matter what types of rules you set up, where there is a will, someone will find some new way to game the system.  What you need is a system that can improve and react, instantly, in an amplification of the wisdom of the crowd way, so things can constantly dramatically change and improve rapidly, handling all possible threats instantly, in a non bureaucratic leaderless way.  All this is possible with systems like that being developed at Canonizer.com.  With canonizer.com systems, millions of people can change dramatic directions on a dime, even faster than 24 hours, and you can be sure you have buy in by everyone. or know now, concisely and quantitatively how many people will leave, if you do, and so on.

The main objection and concern I have for Proof-Of-Stake, is that it disallows mining.
It is impossible to mine NXT coin, for example,  if you don't own any.
This blocks the community from growth.

do you mine bitcoin?

Brilliant response!

People are talking about doing some other kind of work, to get new currency into production.  Solving folding problems, finding ETs are good possibilities, but I bet there is far more important work than this that could be done.  Again, you could use a Canonizer.com like amplification of the wisdom of the crowd system to determine what type of work could be done to earn new currencies, and more importantly, it could be used to determine how much new currency could be put into production to accomplish such things, in a real time constantly changing way.

I doubt Vitalik has the emotional sharpness to force something like this through the social-ideological inertia that surrounds him.. Be Brave, young one!

This is not an easy task, for anyone.  There is a good chance the Bytemaster, and Bitshares will have this problem in the near future.  Best case, he'll piss at least some people off, and things will fracture.

But with the consensus building amplification of the wisdom of the crowd systems like Canonizer.com, this is natural and easy.  THE most important thing is to know, concisely and quantitatively, what everyone is thinking, why, and what it would take to convert them / make them happy.  All stuff that happens naturally at Canonizer.com.  Right now, the sheepish herd is about to run over the POW clif.  For this, and other similar issues in the future, how do you get the entire sheepish herd to change directions, on a dime, and be sure you've succeed before you commit.  And even better, keep the crowd educated about the evils of POW, and so on, before they get too far out of hand.

BM, Can you weigh in on the liklihood of this migration happening?

Also, let's say Bitcoin is migrated to DPOS tomorrow: this would be good or bad for AGS/PTS holders??

Good luck getting the miners that have spent many $ millions on mining infrastructure, to approve something like that.

There is no way you could get that through the Bitcoin bureaucracy that has formed.

Which brings up a, to me, critically important issue: Governance.

Either, and all the other Alt coins are going the Bureaucratic way of Bitcoin, creating bureaucratic organizations that can't do diddly squat on something critically important like this.  Even given the clear expert consensus on how important such changes are, they can't do anything.

Right now, BM has absolute control, which is a good thing for us, but I think we need to do way better than this, if we want to get the a good number of big financial institutions around the world to get on board.  There is no way any of them are going to have any kind of motivation to give BM that much power.

In my opinion, we need the kind of bottom up, anti bureaucratic, leaderless, amplification of the wisdom of the crowd governance system we are developing at Canonizer.com.  The best politicians are the ones that know, best, exactly what all their constituents want.  Imagine what the Bytemaster, and all of us could do, if we could know, concisely and quantitatively, and in real time, what all holders of BitsharesX wanted, both the popular consensus, and how this compares to the expert consensus?  Bytemaster can already discover his mistakes, much faster than anyone else.  But emagine if he had a system where he could vet his ideas against a huge expert consensus, in real time!

To me, the currency that best solves this governance problem, in a bottom up, anti bureaucratic way will be the one that quickly takes over the world in a few months.

This is the obvious reason why the market cap of Bitshares is launching like a rocket.

+5%  +5%  That sounds great! Thanks for letting us know!

I guess Vitalik must be happy for us to share that info? - That Vitalik/Ethereum is strongly considering DPOS?
+5%, +5%, +5%, +5%, +5%

Fantastic Dan!!  The way you do things like this, co-operate without fear or reservation, is why I am betting so heavily on you!  Vitalic may be as smart (but I doubt it), but he doesn't have the age and broader perspective as Dan.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Dang it!!!

I'm in the process of moving $50K into Bitshares, I started the process early last week, and wanted to purchase it at the lower price, but haven't been able to get it into Bitshares yet.  Dang slow $USD, and the snail stock brokerage stuff.

Wow, The market cap of BTSX just blew past the market cap of Peer coin, and even better, Darkcoin.  And look how fast it is approaching NxT, which really seems to have run out of Gas.  It's number 5 in market cap, already.

I just predicted at the Utah Bitcoin User group today that a 2.0 Crypto Currency would surpass the market cap of Bitcoin by the end of the year.  And I also predicted that it would be Bitshares that does it first.  Maybe I should have predicted by the end of next month.

The topic of today's meeting was 2.0 Crypto currencies.  Two other guys presented besides me.  The first guy presented on Counter Party, and he gave some info on NxT and some others.  Another guy presented on Either, then I got up and presented on BitsharesX, and got a good ovation at the end of my talk.  There were a bunch of people looking for the best 2.0 technology to launch there products and new ideas with, and I'm sure they've all decided on Bitshares, now.  I gave them all my contact information in case they had any questions, or needed any further consulting on what they are working on.  I bet a bunch of them have a lot of money, or are working with people with lots of money.

The only problem problem anyone pointed out with Bitshares, was "they have terrible marking team", to which I had to agree.  But if we are the first to pass Bitcoin in Market Cap, we don't need marketing.

I'm interesting in the answer to the same question.
Dividends have two parts.  Who receives them, and who pays for them.
Of course, like as done with mining, you just print more of them to pay a dividend to the miners.
The money that pays for this is like a tax on all holders of the currency/stock.
If you can find someone willing to give up shares, it's just a matter of the transaction.

General Discussion / Re: Benefits of holding bitusd vs. USD
« on: August 12, 2014, 10:17:31 pm »
1) Can't be seized without your consent

BitUSD can be seized or at least heavily taxed, when the federal reserve prints more of it, which they do quite a lot of these days to keep lots of inflation going to fund wars and such.  Nobody can do that with Btsx, at least mostly, although I think the amount of Btsx should be at least somewhat flexible, in an amplified wisdom of the crowd canonization like process.

Now that there are non inflating currencies like Bitcoin and even better BitsharesX, the next time the world economy goes south, everyone could quickly bail from USD, for investments like Bitshares or any of the other crypto currencies.  During the last GREAT recession, everyone in the world was forced to invest in USD, because that was the only option as EVERYTHING was falling in value at once.  Everyone is realizing that at times like that, Bitshares will be a far more reliable investment (exploding in value when the economy goes south, unlike all other investments), and not subject to the huge taxation of the government printing so much more of it.  That could really damage the USD, and cause major major hyper inflation of both USD and BitUSD.

Or am I thinking wrong?

Stakeholder Proposals / How to access Keyhotee founder ID?
« on: August 11, 2014, 03:47:25 am »

I see there is a brent-allsop registered ID in the Genesis bloc.  I'm assuming this came from the Keyhotee founder ID Brent.Allsop.

This is listed as a delegate.

So, my question is, how do I take ownership of this guy so I can start processing blocks with my wallet?

Also, I wold prefer that my delegate be the registered with the name canonizer-delegate.  Is it possible to move the founder ID privileges that came with this to canonizer-delegate?

KeyID / someone squatting on canonizer name?
« on: August 10, 2014, 05:54:39 pm »
I just tried to create an account with the name canonizer.  But it looks like someone is already squatting on that name?

How do I find out who owns that name?  Can I get it?

Is that legal for someone to jump on a name they know someone else will need?

And are periods legal in names?  Can I register canonizer.com?  I just tried, but my wallet gives me this error:

"RPC server error in 'wallet_account_register' unknown account (20006)"

Here are some things I'd like answers for, if we have time today.

a.   I understand public/private key ownership of Bitcoin, but don't understand how the Bitshares "contact name" relates to a public key

b.   What is the difference between a registered and non registered "contact name"?

c.   In the recent transaction section in the client, it almost looks like my genesis block shares have been moved "from" GENESIS "to" brentallsop?  Does this mean they are now under a different private/public key?

i.   A related question is: If someone had the private key for the public GENSIS block key, could they get my shares, or do I need to move them to a new public/private key to guarantee they are secure?

d.   How does the delegate voting process work.  When I change my vote in my client, does this change happen real time, or does the vote only change once I do a transaction.  or does the vote change just for the shares that are being transacted....?

e.   Is there some way to check on how each of my shares are currently voted, or do the votes of all my shares change in real time, when I change my vote?

f.   Are there now plenty enough voted in delegates to secure the network.  What is the status of any voting change plans?  Ultimately, who will make such controversial decisions?

g.   What are daily income, expenses and burn sections in the client UI?
