BitShares PTS / Re: ProtoShares Mining Schedule

Will all DACs released by invictus innovations use the same form of protoshares, or will there be a separate block chain for the protoshares of each DAC?

ProtoShares will be the foundation for each DAC based upon BitShares we release.   We will probably fork ProtoShares into ProtoDomains so that they can be priced separately in about 3 months.   In this case ProtoDomains will start out honoring ProtoShares positions.

ProtoShares are a pricing mechanism used to fund development of DACs.    IF there is a new DAC idea that we want to 'price' in the market, we will split it off from ProtoShares.   In effect, owning ProtoShares will give you some cut in every DAC we ever release.

General Discussion / Re: $5000 Bounty - Momentum Proof-of-Work Hacking

is there a deadline for the bounty?
I think I found a weakness but I'm not sure I can prove it before tomorrow.
Is there a working source code that I can download and modify in order to test my theory?

Bounty has no deadline.

Good news, I have a OS X executable that should work for mining purposes that you can download in 12 hours :)

It still has some bugs like using the Bitcoin icons... but those can be fixed post-genesis :)

General Discussion / Re: Pre-order a Keyhotee ID
« on: November 04, 2013, 07:31:19 pm »
We have had a large number of people attempt to reserve Keyhotee ID's such as  FirstNameLast4234   or  Name_Last34 or other obtuse forum handles that they have used other places on the internet.  I would like to remind everyone that you can pick very simple names such as:

"Q"
"Dan"
"Nick"
"Jan"
"Gavin"

These names are far easier to share with someone over the phone.  Which would you rather tell someone, "Keyhotee Mail me as bytemaster, B-Y-T-E-MASTER"   or "Keyhotee Mail me as Dan".

Take the opportunity to reserve these easy, high-value names rather than fall back to the sacristy mentality of picking names that are longer simply because someone else got the name you really would like.

You will need to pull one last time prior to launch because the genesis block is not checked in yet.

OK, with the clock trick now does work.

Connected to just one node in Bangkok after 5 minutes.

What should I do with ~/.protoshares files at launch?

How did you get the clock trick to work?
Also good question about the files in ~/.protoshares . I'm interested in this as well

After building the final exe, delete .protoshares and it will create a valid start for you.

Compiling in 64 bit should help performance.  I have never benchmarked Linux 32 bit.  I always un Linux 64 bit on a VPS.

Another Mambrino's Helmet:

I like the idea of using some sort of "special" Mambrino's Helmet as the logo because:
  • If you own and wear a helmet that is unique in the world, everybody knows that this guy with that helmet is you.
  • A helmet protects you, but something like Mambrino's Helmet makes you invulnerable.
  • A good name has value, same with a pure gold helmet.
  • Don Quixote wanted this helmet for himself.

I like your thinking for the logo...  we just need to find the right stylized look and feel.

Thanks for the reply bytemaster,

... Do an update at launch ...

Can you explain what you mean by that please?

If you are building the code from source you will need the genesis block parameters which took us hours to mine.  These parameters will not be pushed to github until the same time that the binary download is available to everyone else.  So if you can get the code compiling now you will be 99.9% ready.  Then when we push the parameters to github, you can pull it, build and be ready to go.

researched this and what I found was pretty crucial. many well established names think the project and its members are not trustworthy.

I can only recommend anyone to look into the project before funding it.

Thanks for the recommendation, I head not heard of these issues before.  References?

@bytemaster :

I've compiled the Protoshares git on linux. It used to run without a problem but now I'm getting :

Segmentation fault      (core dumped) ./bitcoind

And that's on two machines. Is that the bug you are referring or am I seeing something else here?

Thanks.

Yes, this bug happens when the genesis block time is in the future.  It goes away if you set your clock forward.   Do an update at launch, recompile, and it should work just fine for you.

Note: I am mining on Linux and one of the bootstrap nodes is on linux so if there were a bug here I would have it fixed ASAP prior to launch!

Do we need to mine on a pool or is it solo mining initially using the QT client?

Solo Mining Initially, no pools created yet, but we are working on it.

For every ProtoShare you own you will be granted 1 BitShare in genesis block.  So they don't CHANGE INTO BitShares  you get both :)
