General Discussion / Re: Looking for BTS 2.0 Seed Node Operators
« on: October 21, 2015, 12:24:57 pm »
is the current set of seed nodes as can be seen here considered sufficient for now?

https://github.com/BitShares/bitshares-2/blob/bitshares/libraries%2Fapp%2Fapplication.cpp#L151

It looks like seed nodes in this thread after and including triox's post (https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,18908.msg243607.html#msg243607) have not been included yet. If the current set is considered sufficient for now, then I'll probably decommission the 3 that I'm maintaining, as their resources could probably be better spent elsewhere. If they will (soon) get included, then I'm happy to keep maintaining them.

I will temporarily stop publishing feeds then and will fix them in the coming days.

I have resumed publishing feeds with proper params yesterday night

Can't fix my script now, so I decided to stop publishing feeds instead of publishing wrong ones / with undesirable parameters. Will fix it asap (tomorrow at the latest)

oh ok, thanks for the explanation. Well, I'm not using xeroc's script but my own, and haven't caught up yet on all that happened and the fine tunings that I should implement (I am currently stumped by a mem leak that I have in my tools that's sucking all my energy to track :-\ )

I will temporarily stop publishing feeds then and will fix them in the coming days.

Please update to 110% if you like your witness positions....it is way too many hours now.

especially @wackou, and @bue

Update: If you have done it but have not been in the active list since, please post here.

I am not sure what you mean exactly... Do you want us to update the core exchange rate in the published feeds to be 10% higher than the external feed (instead of the 5% it is now)?

General Discussion / Re: Witness Communication Platform (Brownie Quest)

I personally prefer slack, but telegram is fine too, and I think ultimately may be the best solution. The only issue I have with the current telegram group is that there's too much noise on it (~3000 messages in a few days) and I can't keep up with it and don't really read it anymore, which kind of defeat the purpose.

Should we have a dedicated telegram group, with only important notifications and security issues, then this would probably work wonders.

General Discussion / Re: Recent Network Split Analysis
« on: October 14, 2015, 09:29:42 pm »
Around 2015-10-14T19:21:39  dele-puppy attempted to claim a vesting balance (his witness pay) and as a result the network split 60/40 because 40% of the witnesses thought the transaction was invalid.

As a result the last irreversible block hung around block 33845 (the block prior to the one that forked the network).   The blockchain grew to 269 blocks before 2/3's of the witnesses managed to agree and extend the last irreversible block back to the typical 20 to 30 behind the head block number.

In this situation everyone on the network was accurately reporting the state and the user interfaces indicated to the users that their operations were pending confirmation.   Any / all exchanges following the last irreversible block would have been OK.

We have determined the cause is due to some non-deterministic behavior in witness pay that resolves itself with a replay.   After replaying the blockchain all witnesses agreed the transaction was valid.

We will continue to monitor the blockchain for issues as we look for the underlying cause.   In the meantime this particular failure can be mitigated by witnesses periodically replaying their blockchain.

Despite the "bug" everything is working just fine and your funds are safe.

Would love to hear details.

me too, got me really curious there... :o Although I would understand if we had to wait until it is properly resolved, as this might be a security issue I imagine...

Every single one of them, yes (that includes the ones from last year, too ;) ). I'm not very vocal, but I did report some bugs.

Seed nodes

seed01.bitsharesnodes.com:1776
seed02.bitsharesnodes.com:1776
seed03.bitsharesnodes.com:1776

are now operational. Getting late for me now, will start publishing feeds tomorrow. Hope I'm going to be able to catch some sleep with all the excitement!  :D

delegates wackou-delegate and btstools.digitalgaia have stopped producing blocks a 9am EST today and have now been shutdown for good, may they rest in peace :) Like the phoenix, a new witness will be reborn from their ashes (to be announced very soon)

What an adventure the past year has been! I have learnt a lot about crypto-currencies and am very proud to be part of the BitShares community, which I hold in the highest respect because of the way that technical excellence is valued here first and foremost (instead of politics), for the openness of the core devs and for all the different opinions of everyone here (I could try to list all of you but Ander did a superb job here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=18455.0, so I'll leave it there).

Eagerly waiting for the impending release of BitShares 2.0. The future has never looked more interesting!
