Bitshares technology is clearly superior to Ripple labs XRP ledger. From the consensus / security protocol to the bitshare (share not token). And where Bitshares is going: BitAssets. I'm still a believer. Congratulations to the bitshares team for doing the convincing.

Having fiat gateway won't solve the problems of  bitAssets which is on the creation / supply side. But that's okay for now. Bitshares is making up for lost ground.

General Discussion / Re: Understanding BitAsset Limitations
« on: May 21, 2015, 10:30:06 pm »
I'm not up to speed on current bitAsset implementation. I'd just add - the value of bitUSD is "one dollars worth of BTS". When demand exceeds supply (which hopefully will be temporary in the new implementation) bitUSD will trade at a premium, when it is the opposite, bitUSD will trade at a discount.

I don't see the importance of a "peg" concept.

 What's important, is there is a functioning primary market... which obviously we don't have. but I heard talk of  a bond market and that's my inclination too.

I made deposit to this address: 12jw7KYtRbfSo24XVQMMaBYTefF89zaZXP

After 11 confirmations, I still did not get the bitUSD on my bitshares account that I specified. maybe you can help, thanks.

General Discussion / Re: How I use the bitshares wallet painlessly.

if one has a good desktop computer they can probably manage. Besides resources, the problem with running on a laptop, is when you're laptop sleeps, then when it wakes up it has to resync. Sometimes it won't even resync. But if you have a windows machine maybe it's not so great, since the windows client is always having problems... so I hear.

General Discussion / How I use the bitshares wallet painlessly.
« on: April 01, 2015, 12:51:45 am »
I pay $15 a month for a double-core, 2gb ram, 40gb SSD, machine/instance. I make a 4gb swap file on the SSD. On that I run the bitshares daemon, and the nodejs web wallet. Then in my web browser I could use the client at ${machine_ip}:8000. I actually block port 8000 out of caution ( I couldn't figure out how to have the web socket bind to localhost ) and then I forward the port to my laptop over an ssh session I initiate with the machine. But this shouldn't be necessary since the web socket has authentication.

This is great for me, because running the daemon on my laptop is a disaster. I've had the setup for many months.

if that's true that's good news. It means they are not selling for now.

my prediction

I for one am happy for the success of the note distribution on the BTS blockchain, and to finally have a UIA market trading and running smoothly.

My log file grew to 10+ gb in less than 48 hours. It took up all my disk space. then my progam didn't exit cleanly. I had to resync the whole chain  :'(. My new log file is growing again almost at 1gb in a few hours.

Code: [Select]
.bitshares/logs# du -h -d1
4.0K    ./blockchain
4.0K    ./rpc
243M    ./default
620M    ./p2p
863M    .

 the exceptions dir also gets large. it's already at 200mb. Never had this issue before.

I upgraded to 0.8.0 after the fork. the client got stuck on some block after the fork block. I restarted, still wouldn't sync. So now I'm rebuilding the block chain, and it will take a while, but I'm guessing it will be fine then.

Follow My Vote / who to lobby VOTE to (suggestion)
« on: March 24, 2015, 08:41:41 pm »
The EU is drafting e-voting standards. I haven't checked out what the EU is doing exactly, but that may be interesting. link: http://www.coe.int/t/dgap/democracy/activities/GGIS/E-voting/

Importantly, member states will need to comply.

Estonia doesn't want to.
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/may/12/estonian-e-voting-security-warning-european-elections-research
Quote
Estonia's internet voting system should not be used for the European elections in May because its security vulnerabilities could lead to faked votes or totals, say independent researchers.

The flaws were discovered by a team who were accredited to observe the October 2013 municipal elections. They said they observed election officials downloading key software over insecure internet connections, typing PINs and passwords in view of cameras, and preparing election software on insecure PCs. They have reported their findings to the Estonian government, but had had no response by Monday.

Lithuania seems more enthused. MEP for Lithuania meets with director of the World Wide Web Consortium

1.
there is shorts at feed price, and bids above feed. orders are not matching. I don't understand.

Interest of those shorts are too low. Need to be higher than other shorts.

Ohh...Marvelous! Outstanding! You guys  are on a hot streak  in the last 5-6 mo...streak of novel ideas how to kill the market, that is.

So, one guy put a 50% interest short order on bitBTC with price limit at 60000 BTS/BitBTC. I happen to have to grandfather my short. Are you telling me I can't grandfather my short unless I put more than 50% interest rate ???? Come on... this has to change NOW. It's an emergency.

By the way, the 60000 BTS/BitBTC 50% interest order is for 0.002 BTC. Does it really block ALL creation of new bitBTC unless interest is higher than 50% ? If so, this is just plainly unforgivable. I'm gonna spoil all the other markets also.

That seems to be the case. And I see no rationale for this rule in any shape or form.

Yunbi. Do you want to become a gateway for bitshares? And issue btc and fiat-cny IOU's on bitshares blockchain? I hope this is in the horizon.

About the no tx fees, one other point is that stakeholders are diluting 130k bitshares per month for Yunbi. while Yunbi exchange collects no order tx fees. this does not give a good impression. the dilution is not meant to subsidize exchange fees for yunbi to attract users and have misleading volume statistics.

my transaction from the 0.6.1 client to my unregistered light-wallet account is not showing up.

added contact:
>> wallet_add_contact_account test2 BTS5ihT3L2zY4cYfJ2qvY85m7FAPSjyK191U28qBiTV8cz9qzweqP

OK

 I did not use the transfer_public method because it fails:
>> wallet_transfer_to_public_account 0.9 BTS americansilver test2

10 assert_exception: Assert Exception
account_record.valid() && !account_record->is_retracted():
    {}
    th_a  wallet_api.cpp:348 wallet_transfer_to_public_account

    {}
    th_a  common_api_client.cpp:4042 wallet_transfer_to_public_account

    {"command":"wallet_transfer_to_public_account"}
    th_a  cli.cpp:626 execute_command

normal transfer goes through but I don't see it on bitshares.org wallet:
>> transfer 0.9 BTS americansilver test2

TIMESTAMP           BLOCK     FROM                TO                  AMOUNT                  MEMO                                        FEE                 ID
======================================================================================================================================================================
2015-02-26T21:39:57 PENDING   americansilver      test2               0.90000 BTS                                                         0.10000 BTS         239b3768

It is easier to use:
Code: [Select]
wallet_transfer_to_address .01 BTS americansilver BTS5ihT3L2zY4cYfJ2qvY85m7FAPSjyK191U28qBiTV8cz9qzweqP
Vikram tells me that those commands will be going away and eventually combined into the wallet_transfer command.  Also, I believe it did work I was able to add a contact and my transfer did show up in the wallet..  You would have seen your balance update but the Recent Transactions tab does not update as often as it should (guess it is acting like more like "old transactions" then "recent transactions").  Click on the dashboard and you should see it there.

wallet_transfer_to_address works. but my account on the web wallet still does not receive the transaction in question above. Also the reason I used the cli in the first place is because transfer I made by the GUI did not show up, and still has not.
