I'm not a fan of the referral system.  The words "referral system" only bring up images in people's head of some guy in 3rd world Asia trying to get you to click on a sketchy link to earn five cents, which he can do two billion more times until he has enough money to buy an iPhone.  This probably falls under my reference to cocaine induced features/changes in the original post.

Whoever creates something probably won't even benefit from the referral system.  It will be some guy with an army of zombie bots that spams people....

This will either put you in the viewpont camp of "There's no such thing as bad publicity!", or "Bitshares will now be known as the new, annoying AOL CD, forcibly given to anyone walking down the street, inducing extreme rage at it's sight".

I agree and in reading your stuff I think your a zombie (not the coin) fan. So  +5%.

The messaging and filesharing system should absolutely be done off chain, but using chain registered account names for lookups.  Something like this, but with BitShares account keys instead of PGP:

http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/

This uses distributed hash tables for IP lookups from a public key, so no central server is necessary, but it isn't healthy for battery life on mobile devices to maintain a full DHT node.  Because of this, I recommend a mobile client that establishes a single direct connection by DHT to a full node that acts as a proxy for all other connections.

The referral system is actually reasonable, I think.  It's much less spammy since there's no reward unless those referred actually end up using the service and paying fees.

tl;dr : Bitcoin sucks. Most other crypto's suck too. BitShares shows promise. Maybe another, but it's vaporware.

Summary: Buy BitShares before it's too late.

 ;)

Pending Larimer doesn't do anything crazy within the short term future, Bitshares DPoS is currently the winner of my long crypto analysis:

When i think of the referral system, I dont think of AOL CDs, I think of the various people out there with marketing skills promoting BTS, to a level much greater than we have ever had before.

without inflation.

Every referral is DEFLATIONARY!  Because a portion of the purchase fee of the membership is burned. :)

Integrate with Jabber or Pidgin. Jabber is probably easier but Pidgin is very popular so a Bitshares Pidgin Plugin could really catch fire.

It would be interesting if people could trade BitAssets over IM through bots.

https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-best-C-C++-XMPP-client-library-for-desktop
https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Scripting%20and%20Plugins
https://xmpp.org/xmpp-software/libraries/
https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/python/xmpp/

If Graphene has a good API then it shouldn't be difficult. Bots would log into the IM network, humans could then email, IM, send SMS, or Skype to them.
