bumping for brownies. Why doesn't a witness or BM just create a private slack group and invite the witnesses. It would take 10 minutes to do tops.

A private slack group is created - https://bitshareswitnesses.slack.com but most witnesses prefer to stay on Telegram because they have been using it and they like it. 
The same group of telegram-channel witnesses have also joined the slack group but not actively communicating in it.  They are treating it as a secondary/backup channel ie to be used when telegram fails.

Are all the witnesses there?

I just counted 13 active witnesses in telegram and 12 active witnesses in slack.  If you like, I can help contact the rest of them to join in.

Not to sound like an a-hole (though Quest givers sometimes do for the fun of it!), but my response would be:

Bytemaster needs us to slay the monster of getting him a way to quickly and privately communicate with the community's init witnesses.

The first witness platform to get all active witnesses into it and proves so in this thread will receive 400 brownies. If this task is completed within 24 hours from the time of this posting and Bytemaster and myself are notified via pm, you will be awarded 50% more brownies (for a total of 600).

Now whether you decide to get people working together to help you and share the Quest Reward with them or not is up to you.  What I want is to see someone who wins it

Not unless someone added me without my knowledge.

I haven't even participated in a slack communications yet. Just one more app to lean in a sea of others. Plus it lacks the instant notification on mobile devices that Telegram has. If I'm wrong about that how would I set it up on my phone?

Also, can it be integrated easily into a witness node like has been already done for Telegram? Notification of missed blocks is an essential feature.

Slack  is not as effective for mobile devices, being a full featured desktop app, whereas Telegram is. Plus, there are already 10 witnesses using it, it's just a matter of getting the others on board.

Based on the range of missed block counts I see it's apparent there are different levels of dedication and responsiveness in the witness pool. I think you can see a unanimous consensus is not likely to happen for one particular platform if that is any indication. So the goal of ALL witnesses may not be achievable, and if it is will take time. Hopefully the other witnesses who are NOT on Telegram will see this and get on it, or at least post here with alternatives.

Well whoever ORGANIZES them getting on has the chance of winning 400-600 brownies, which would require 4-6 hours of work to receive otherwise.  BM is willing to pay someone to do this, so rather than us expecting it to happen on its own, someone has an incentive to organize them and get them on!

It takes a lot longer to get them together than 10 minutes BM needs it done ASAP.  But BM is busy so he cannot be in charge of managing it.  So this one time quest is being offered.

However, if you can do it in 10 minutes and show you have accomplished it...you win! Prove this guy wrong!

BM should get on Telegram. Is it not a viable solution? If not why not? It's encrypted, it's multi-platform, I think it's even open source.

Telegram is fine.  But the question is...does it have all the witnesses in it and if has it provided us with a screenshot or some other form of proof?  If not...it is not the winner.
