You're right ! It would be better, indeed, to be able to send someone in the DEX directly.
Can't we add a guest mode ?

If you want to share a link just share one direct to the USD market rather than mucking around https://bitshares.org/wallet/#/market/USD_BTS. I don't think you need an account to see that do you?

Yes you actually do need an account to see that link, otherwise it redirects you to the Create Account screen. At that point a Bitcoin maximalist would use use that as an excuse to continue believing that you cant have an exchange on a blockchain, and just piss off elsewhere.

Has anyone actually shared a link to BitShares on a Bitcoin forum and got a positive response?

We need a real site designer to redesign the look of Openledger.  The whole thing looks like a mess.  I want an option for a clean white looking exchange.  NO black and grey please!

welcome a board .. a warm welcome!
Your wish is my command Sir!

My point is, isn't it going to scare people who just want to understand the basics of the wallet. Someone coming from a mycelium bitcoin wallet for example ?

There will be other wallets for that. @merivercap is working talking about one for bitUSD, and moonstone is in the pipeline. who knows what pipedreams people may be entertaining

I don't see much difference.

You sign in polo then you click on exchange and you there.

You sign in OL, then you click on the trade tab and you have a list of the markets, you click and you are there.

It might be good enough for you as an existing user, but is the exchange good enough to convince someone who still wants to believe that BitShares is just an altcoin? Giving the charts quickly on the frontpage without having to register is the way to overcome that misconception.

@speedy, you are comparing different pages, your screenshot depictures https://bitshares.org/wallet , not https://bitshares.org/
here is poloniex analog: https://poloniex.com/signup

I am comparing the page that is 1 easy click away from the poloniex.com frontpage, vs the page that I get frustratingly redirected to after 3 clicks on https://bitshares.openledger.info (and https://bitshares.org/wallet), when I attempt to look at the markets without an account.

You get the problem right? How is BitShares supposed to spread virally if its impossible for non-registered users to find out that there is even trading activity going on?

I just checked out poloniex for the first time. I have no account there. Indeed, it is easy to see the markets with just one click, but the UX is terrible because of poor performance. I do not experience anything like that with the OL wallet.

Wow. what I wrote above is true for Firefox, but not for IE-11. I guess I need to find another browser. OL reports it doesn't like Firefox anyways. I just can't bring myself to install chrome. Although a nice standards compliant browser I just don't trust google and how far they have their hooks in my data and browsing habits.

On IE the poloniex UI / UX is nice and clean. Takes awhile to download the charts but not terrible. Overall I give it a very positive A rating after a quick, cursory look at it.

I see your point for the person interested in knowing what is BitShares capable of or the one interested in trading.

I know that before I understood how a trading plateform worked, I was running away as soon as I saw red and green candles, it seems to me complicated and reserved for traders.

The second click you have to do is only the very first time you use it. It's to select one market, which is also something you have to do in polo but it is in the same screnn. After going to the DEX for the first time, the trade tab links you directly on the last pair you watched.

On the other hand, it's also a wallet. IMO is better to display something simple on the first screen for everybody (not everyone wants to go to the trading platform, is scary for certain person that just want a wallet). The ones interested in the DEX, will certainly spend the time to click on the "trade" tab.
