Initially I thought it might be good to get Hearn on the BBC show, from the standpoint he is controversial and it might attract attention to BitShares and allow us to highlight our solutions to various problems in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Our pro regulation features might be interesting to him and stimulate his interest in coming on.

You had it right with the first paragraph. Sometimes we need to leave our safe place and start interacting with people that might cause a little controversy. Sometimes there's alignment in goals even if there's disagreement on how we get there.  I read some comments about upsetting the Bitcoin community. What? We're barely a spec on the radar outside of this forum. Let's get the word out to a bigger community with confidence that our platform is a better way to get to financial independence.

If we feel he's going to say something that puts Bitshares in a bad light and we're not able to intelligently address it,  that's more our issue than his.

Yeah, bitcoin fanatics will like us more if we don't invite Hearn(LOL), should we invite Gavin if we had the oportunity or he is a red flag to the bicoin zealot herd too?  It seems that we are far more inclined to hear FUD from newmine and his group of "enlightned" fud-trolls than to hear someone like Hearn, really?

imho if we can have him in beyond bitcoin it would be great!

I am now of a different view. Personally I never liked the guy. Every interview I've seen with him gives me the strong impression his motives are not aligned with the original core values of Bitcoin and certainly not my own. He always comes across as someone who just doesn't "get it" and why decentralization and disruption of the bankster cartel is Top Priority, Mission 1.

So although it may lead to a lot of publicity and downloads of the audio for such a BBC show, I tend to think it would cast us in a bad light, unless the interview was more like a 60 minute "hit" piece, which casts a bad image on BBC.

So even if we could entice him to a BBC interview, I tend to think it's not in the best interests of BitShares.

I watched his presentation in London around 2013 sometimes when he was just in transition from Google to Circle. He was than promoting blacklisting of coins which did not receive very good reaction from some of the audience. I think if we invite him we are just giving another reason to Bitcoin community to dislike us.

 +5%

Also it may give him a free paid shot to criticize another competitor to "Bankcoin".

I applaud the initiative here, but I think the speaker "disgruntled competitor" should be left to speak at the next Fed meeting instead.

I'd rather pay Jim Willie (or someone like him) to come back on, but he's actually cool enough to come on for free.

If you do get Mike Hearn into a Mumble session, I sure hope you're ready to be muting others ... a lot. ;)

... sent with love. :)

I agree.. there is also the threat that the meeting will get DDOSed along with the rest of the community/network. Big banks might be able to handle that but not us.

Meh.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=333824.0
I can't take this guy seriously since then

redlisting/blacklisting some bitcoins?  Is this a joke?

I cannot agree more with you.

I think any news is good bad news if you get Hearn on... but I also think it's better to reach out to the other side as well.  I think it's more important to get the broader Bitcoin community on board with Bitshares than create more divisiveness.  Hearn is already an outcast and even more so now.

Mike is working for R3 and the timing of his post with NYT article cast suspicions on his agenda.  If he has become an outcast with the bitcoin community, inviting him at this sensitive time is inviting bitcoiners' enmity.

What was his crime?

Well, you edited out the important part, but generally working to undermine a basic human liberty that all humans should be allowed (privacy). Not to mention attempting to make Bitcoins non fungible...

Mumble does not always have good audio. It will need to be edited.
