I tried a lot to lobby the community to support to change USD MCR to 1.5, I beg you, I beg OL, I beg BEOS... but everyone rejected to support.
So sad, liquidity makes the difference, but not MCR of 1.6/1.5.

it's relevant, definitely, just as Federal Reserve can adjust the interest rate to influence the USD liquidity.

generally speaking, our people care too much on getting money via worker proposal, but care so little on how to make the ecosystem healthy and sustain the BTS price.
I have the same feelings and worker proposals should be seen more critical.

Our reserve pool is limited, inflation needs to be around 0%.
We had that between 2015 and 2017, look where it brought us ..
Look what changed after voters started spending money for good.

I don't necessarily say we should through out money easily, but a 3% inflation rate is really really low compared to other cryptocurrencies which even raised millions through an ICO.
If you can find devs that work for free, great, bring them on!

In China investors keep on leaving BTS.

I even received death threat before the DEVCON in Shanghai, because someone invested a lot in BTS after one of my public speech but lost so much.

I am not saying this threat is reasonable or I fear of that, but we need to care the investors' experience.

generally speaking, our people care too much on getting money via worker proposal, but care so little on how to make the ecosystem healthy and sustain the BTS price.

one reason of the bad BTS price is the bad bitUSD status, in current status, bitUSD holders can just wait and buy as much BTS as they want after a big falling down of price.

we need to incentivize bitUSD minting and make the margin call orders disappear ASAP.

I tried a lot to lobby the community to support to change USD MCR to 1.5, I beg you, I beg OL, I beg BEOS... but everyone rejected to support.

Why? Why? Why? you guys do not want to see a healthy bitUSD? you guys just enjoy selling BTS from worker proposals without caring how can we make the BTS price sustainable?

if BTS price fall to 0, no worker will make sense.

From my side this is not a permanent action, perhaps it will last at least several weeks.

Without certainty regarding funding for the 201907-uccs-research-project worker, I will soon be forced to move the PhD student to a different project and cease our development of simulations and analysis for BitShares. It costs approximately $37k-$40k to support the student for one year (this does not include travel funding and any funds for myself), but the worker so far has only collected about $15k.

What are your requirements for reversing your votes for the research project and the refund worker? I'd be very happy to provide more information about my research project to help change your mind (and the minds of the cn-vote team).

I voted this worker, but I am not sure cn-vote can support it, BTS just experienced a price falling down, which make things even worse.

Nobody can work for free or its willing to do so. Believe here would be beneficial if all the workers would be able to provide more transparent, often, vivid reports how on their progress that how on payouts.

Also, by having in mind that 90% of liquidity and activity is bitCNY on blockchain, maybe we should hire someone as hub/bridge to keep the translations/communications between workers and Chinese community for more and better understanding.

I have "thrown knives" at bitcrab numerous times why he is not voting on other workers, but then realized that even my own workers are not having:

a) Chinese version of the worker itself
b) Chinese translation of the reports/issues around the same
c) and that I lack on regular reporting in general (too busy and far under needed resources for that - but no excuse and ill keep trying)

so, bottom line i've been ignorant myself in terms of respect to Chinese community. Apologies for it.

Maybe a solution would be to create more rules on workers/committee/witnesses regarding reporting and transparency that is missing for quite a few since 2017 still to this day.

I do agree with are too chaotic to be followed and understood properly by outsiders or even our own holders and community + most of the stuff looks like it happens behind the scenes before West or East gets a proper info on it, just due to language barrier.

Apart from escrow from BBF and very transparent accounting, there was no public updates on workers apart from Wallet UI regularly and few other on few occasions. Again, including myself and my own workers.

Maybe i'm off topic, but I really tried hard to understand and explore the entire reasoning of this, and this is far that my brain goes...

Hopefully someone will shad more light in order to point me to the right direction if i'm going sideways with this talk.

@biophil
We need people, who take actions with sure instinct and don't do several years research with uncertainty.

Bitcrab already did the right thing by reducing MCR, MSSR and introducing a GS protection.

We have a lot of other good ideas here, which needs a review:

Why do you ignore https://github.com/bitshares/bsips/issues/182 ?

Do you guys actually know the inflation (percentage wise) of BitShares?
anything hard to understand?

Na. I just meant if you guys know that the inflation is less than 3% even with all the worker being voted in:

Crossposting from telegram group, my response about this refund worker change: (copy paste)

... this rigorous step to "cut off" many projects many in the middle of their payouts, will mean personal losses for individuals.

ofcourse it's the way how bitshares chain can work, but seeing involvement of so many people and organisations, and time spent, and then just decide to make this move, is a drastic kill switch, with a lot of casualties. There are no winners with this move, only unrest. IMHO workers should be unvoted if the work is not on par with the promises. Not by killing of projects in the middle of their funding. The signal is not good for people who would want to help BTS further through a worker proposal, it brings a lot of uncertainty.

When looking at SteemFest worker - was/is only a small worker, will survive without the BTS support - really meant to be a promotional worker for BTS, but the other bigger initiatives are more dependent on these bigger funded partnerships. Or for example the Wirex integration, instant plus for bitshares, especially thanks to our fast confirmation times, down the drain.

AFAI understood the BTS worker proposal system as always meant to be to develop the chain, promote the chain and support the chain.

Yes bts has a low satoshi price, but look what satoshi gets you compared to 2 years ago.

========

Please find all details about the SteemFest worker proposal here -

Many thanks. Please keep in mind few other workers that are actually important for network and can't survive loss of funds/inactivity.

This is not a permanent action, perhaps it will last at least several weeks.

I'd like to support good projects, but actually we need to review the workers and control the budget, especially in bear market, for long time the inflation from workers is too high and out of control, if we continue to let things be like this, I don't think BTS has a good future.

another point is that the action is mainly done by cn-vote, which is a multisig proxy in China community, all the votings  are decided by themselves.

This is reality:

There is no several weeks that these workers will survive:

- bitshares.org
- Decentralized 2019
- NABTS Conference

Now to be more clear.

If

- bitshares.org doesnt see funding by end of the current week, all services around it will be terminated including complete DNS structure of the domain. There will be no DEX, no website, no emails, no news.bitshares.org and all the authors will vanish due to missing payments.
I have no intentions to borrow money again just to stay around network and help BitShares grow, because certainly my pockets are not any deeper for the past 19 months of work, but debts are.
- Decentralized 2019 had serious downtime payment and if ends up in being underfunded that money will be gone.
- NABTS Conference, as escrow (Institute) who is legally responsible for signed agreement we do have some legal responsibility to respect it.

I agree we need management, but not in hostile way like others do. Playing politics means to sit down and talk together on possible solutions, not just act as we believe its the best fit.

hope you understand my position well

P.S. I will try to setup a witness or two to compensate bitshares.org worker in the meantime, but I don't see any other solution to this matter. You as a holder should be aware that 86k USD for entire year of development, seo, marketing, content writing was VERY TIGHT BUDGET in the first place, but was allowed by escrow/holders, so we already did more than we should from the day one. This is not first time refund400k is keeping it off this year and we can't afford another period of being inactive. I don't have to remind you that worker already suffered many months of devaluated salaries due to another hostile forcing of BSIP42 through witnesses at the time.

voted refund400K.

it's time to control the inflation of BTS.

This move is nothing good for people around this network, its structure, stability or future.

a) The worker that is supporting research on BitAssets is gone.
b) Infrastructure worker that holds 20+ API is gone.
c) bitshares.org worker is gone and 4 people are living of it. As full-time employees which that budget salaries are bread&butter for them, including myself.
d) all event conferences will be cancelled and all the funds that are paid already will be lost.

I can go through entire alphabet for the rest of the workers, but I'm not planning to.

If your wish is to completely destroy BitShares and chase away this small amount of good people/development we have around, please carry on.

If you wish something better for BitShares, please stop making moves that are against good people of this Consensus.

voted refund400K.

it's time to control the inflation of BTS.

As of right now only reference faucet and infrastructure worker are active.

I don't know if that is intended, but that means ALL our conference workers (among other also important workers) are halted. This will cause a major setback in the motivation of the involved people  (and any downpayments would be down the drain as well)
  • 201907-steemfest
  • NABTS2019
  • 2019-06-decentralized-partnership

Is that really the intention of this action? Please do re-consider if this is the best time to choke those efforts.

unvote witnesses elmato, abc123 and sahkan-bitshares.

poll voting worker proposals have decided to changed MSSR of bitCNY from 1.1 to 1.05 months ago, from 1.05 to 1.02 several days ago, but they still feed 1.1 as MSSR of bitCNY, ignoring the community consensus.
I adjusted to 1.02 per the BSIP.

I don't think it will work. Because bitCNY is a derivative asset and not actual CNY, the market can always adjust its demand to appreciate/depreciate bitCNY. For example, if we consider an extreme example, make feed price = 2x market price on Bitshares, internal price is 0.65, feed is now 1.3, so now margin calls can only go to (1.3 - 0.13), it doesn't mean the market will suddenly buy up all BTS from 0.65 to the margin call price.

I guess the effect it will have is margin calls won't be eaten though

Maybe it will also affect settlement operations by devaluing bitCNY in a bear market. If that is the case, maybe it can work. But as I just said, because bitCNY is a derivative the market can just increase demand for bitCNY when it is devalued

the point is negative feedback, which means, when bitCNY is in shortage and have a big premium, we need to help to support the system to produce more bitCNY by feeding a price of market price + some offset.

more detail can be found at BSIP42 doc https://github.com/bitshares/bsips/blob/master/bsip-0042.md

I don't understand the point of the formula, can you please explain. BitCNY premium of 2% means that BitCNY is in shortage, also known as bear market. You're saying the feed price should be 1.09 times the BTS/BitCNY pair price, which at the moment would be 1.09 x 0.65 = 0.7085. The feed price is currently at 0.712 and always is at around a 10% higher price than the BTS/BitCNY pair price in a bear market, so I do not see how this new formula helps.

I hope you can explain, maybe I misunderstood something

BSIP42 passed, proxy bitcrab will push the implementation of this BSIP by witnesses voting.

below is a page on magicwallet that shows the bitCNY price feeding status.

the witnesses points that fall inside the smallest circle now provide the lowest price, possibly they haven't updated their price feeding according to BSIP42, please start to do that.

how to judge whether the price feeding is well enough, I have one simple metric: when bitCNY premium is higher than 2%, the feed price should be higher than Pdex*1.09, here Pdex is the BTS price in bitCNY in DEX.

one week later, proxy bitcrab will begin to unvote the witnesses that publish feed price that do not fulfill this condition.

mr.agsexplorer worries me more... is there any SLA how often should witnesses produce feed? 3 hours doesn't seem right for actively traded assets.
Most scripts don't actually push prices *frequently* but instead have an expiration of say 12h (the minimum frequency) and trigger republishing only if a certain percentage in price difference (From on-chain feed to locally derived feed) is reached. That reduces the burdon that is put onto the blockchain by feed operations and still is flexible.

No need to announce a price again and again if it doesn't change

in the recent past the CNY feeding from elmato is too low to be reasonable, unvote it temporarily.

BTS need some change on price feeding to protect the ecosystem from being attacked by shorters, suggest witnesses can feed price with the suggestion here as a reference.https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=26914.msg320692;topicseen#msg320692

Given that the blockchain derives a *median* of all the price feeds available, a single feed that is below by 100% is as irrelevant as if it was below only 5%.
Unvoting is unecessary IMHO, but the feed should be fixed asap

now all the active witnesses provides API servers.

in order to make more witnesses active, proxy bitcrab voted more than 40 witnesses, among which some inactive witnesses may do not provide API server.

anyway, if any witness that do not provide API server change to active, proxy bitcrab will unvote the witness.

@Elmato: How did you manage to make websocket connection work with geo-location? To my knowledge websocket doesn't support redirects :-(

@xeroc: as @clockwork mentioned, it DNS level.
This is, depending on the geo-origin of the DNS request we resolve to different load balancers. Then the websocket connection is made and stays on that instance until its closed.

@Elmato: How did you manage to make websocket connection work with geo-location? To my knowledge websocket doesn't support redirects :-(

Bitcrab, you haven't voted for my witness for months, not sure why. I have been running 2 load balanced API servers for 8 months now, and I operate 6 full nodes including the testnet. I'm not perfect but I'm human.

With only a small amount of time to check and interest in what witnesses do, you would see I am highly active and tuned into the technical needs of this ecosystem. I write a report every month and publish it on steemit, how many witnesses even publish a regular report of what they are doing? How many witnesses receive feedback about their operation?

We all have specialties of expertise, some broader, some deeper. It is unreasonable to expect of anyone to be all things in all situations on a systems as complex as crypto, with it's politics, economics, technical, marketing and managerial aspects. You yourself were not tuned into the technical aspects of running a witness and you stepped away from that role to focus on other matters you felt you were better at or could better serve the ecosystem by. That was a wise move on your part.

I feel there are few recognized standard requirements for witnesses, and each proxy is free to choose what requirements they wish to support. You continue to state what your requirements are to support a witness, but I don't feel you vote according to them consistently.

We have identified a growing issue in our ecosystem that witnesses across the board (every witness is affected) misses blocks regularly now. It's very rare now to go to Roeland's witness log without seeing that every witness has missed at least 1 or more blocks with a 7 day period. Some of the highest ranked witnesses have missed block rates > 1 per day. It didn't used to be that way, and this trend has been increasing for some time. I mention this to suggest that the absolute number of blocks missed is less important than the rate they are accumulating for each witness. Something perhaps you might take into consideration and not focus only on the total number of blocks missed. witness.still holds the record for that, but look how stable he is now. It isn't fair to hold that against him now, tho it should serve as a stern warning to prospective witnesses to get your act together on the testnet first, to avoid such problems.

I submitted a pull request months ago to include my public API nodes as seeds, as at the time there was no convention for which nodes API would be included in the wallet UI. The wallet UI had undergone many changes in the area of improving connection reliability and it is proving to be a difficult issue to resolve.

You didn't list and of my API nodes for some reason. I am here to tell you, since you obviously aren't aware of them. Shouldn't you be? I don't operate in a vacuum, it isn't hidden information. Do you even look at my witness reports? It seems you don't. What you ask for in terms of vote support for  committee, are you yourself doing what you expect other committee members to do?

My 2 load balanced API nodes are:
  • wss://bts.proxyhosts.info/wss
  • wss://nohistory.proxyhosts.info/wss

I am due for another witness report, expect it before the weekend. I will describe how I plan to revise my approach to utilize docker to improve deployment of new nodes as well as increase their security. I hope that satisfies your request, and I hope you will revise your witness votes to include verbaltech2.

great competence happen in EOS node voting. I feel we can also use the witness voting to help BTS ecosystem.

proxy bitcrab would like to adjust the metrics on voting witnesses:

1.provide stable and reliable witness node, low missed block rate.
2.update in time
3.provide good enough price feed.
4.provide API server, the higher performance, the better.
5. help to test code positively

from 5th April, proxy bitcrab will not support witnesses that do not provide API server.

Great initiative, btw. Finally someone to prove still that your salary depends on your work and to make everyone be equal and fair to take out extra hundred from those 6k monthly earnings each have. Obviously its working only when stake holder that witnesses and worker proposals payouts are depending from make demands. Community was ignored many times with answering to this question... "Why does Witness well overpaid not running API node each?".

Many many thanks for your efforts, investment and support to the BitShares.

"Vote to the worker proposals that really make sense"

Could please elaborate on this? What things in bitshares are you most in favor of improving? Can we see the worker proposals you voted for in the past?

Thank you

I may set my proxy to bitcrab if you provide a price feed for bitBTC!

https://roelandp.nl/bitshareswitnesslog/?witness=jerryliu
With OPEN.BTC, bitBTC is not really needed. I believe that's his point, somewhat valid since we are duplicating BTC on the DEX.

And how are you going to short BTC without bitBTC?

Then you don't understand the potential of SmartCoin derivatives and the profits they can make for both shareholders and the network.

bitcrab, member of Bitshares Committee, owner of witness "jerryliu" and founder of gateway transwiser.

as proxy, bitcrab will vote following below principles:

about Committee:

vote for the candidates that actively contribute to community, has a deep understanding to the Bitshares ecosystem, able to discuss and propose constructively, and widly accepted by the community.

about witness:

vote for the witenesses that provide stable and secure block generation service and qualified price feeding service (at least provide BitCNY and BitUSD price feeding). try to adjust the witness payment to a reasonable level to encourage contribution.

about worker proposal:

vote for some refund proposal to set a high enough threshold for worker proposal, vote to the worker proposals that really make sense and with reasonable budget。try to make the development organization more reasonable and effective.

let's make Bitshares great again! thanks for voting for proxy bitcrab!
