A helper proposal has just been published

https://www.bitshares.foundation/workers/2018-09-rossul-ui-helper

Glad team took advice from the community and accepted to finish the worker with originally asked budget. Support and looking forward to see the progress!

Greetings to the BitShares community!

As you may know, the worker of Graphene Lab and Rossul have expired. The good news is the great weight of our task has been completed already. You can try out the new interface either in TESTNET (http://bitshares-ui-testnet.test.graphenelab.io/) or MAINNET (https://bitshares-dream.graphenelab.io/). It’s completely functional and (except for a few minor imperfections) is ready for use.

Unfortunately, the entire cost of the work could not be paid, but despite all the problems, we continued to work.

For a long time we've been deciding what would be the following course of action. Now we have two options - either we create an additional worker to get funds that haven't been paid for us and stop supporting the new interface or we create a worker for a year to support and develop new functionality.

We've received an offer from the BLCKCHND team to launch a new worker through their escrow service. According to their conditions, we will have to release regular reports, discuss all problems with the community, conduct the development on Github and significantly reduce the cost of developers' and designers' work.

Now we'd like to know whether we'll receive support from the community and large proxies :) We'll be happy to receive the feedback and answer all your questions!

Please read this document to get more detailed information

Best Regards,

It has been two months since the last report was released.

What is the status of the project now?

Worker has expired and its over.

According to public accounting available at BBF Workers:

Asked: 265.828,00 USD
Paid: 178,082.72 USD ( - Escrow fee)

Remaining budget: 17,433.68 USD (with all the period worker had votes - they had few nasty periods of missing votes)

Last commit was done 21 day ago (https://bitbucket.org/graphenelab/bitshares/commits/all).

In my opinion:

a) Or Rossul set a new worker with difference from the originally asked budget against paid until now - to finish what they started
b) Or Rossul provide changelog of implementations/progress on the project so we can carry on with source they left

Is this up to date? http://bitshares-ui-master.test.graphenelab.io

The project leader mentioned in the telegram 20 days ago that the work is continuing and the work report will be released soon. It seems that this is not the case.

I just tried the link to the application and it goes to a blank white screen after login with testnet credentials.

I also tried to create an account and it went to the blank white screen as well.

Here is the console logs:

Offline blockchained

Friends!

Today we are pleased to bring an unusual progress report to your attention. Despite the fact that the last significant payment for our work proposal was made on February 18, work on the new BitShares application has not ceased,  and the product has begun  to take on a concrete and tangible form. Below you can find a list of the main results we have achieved since the release of the previous report, but the purpose of today's update is, of course, a link to the functional version of the application connected to the BitShares test network!

http://bitshares-ui-master.test.graphenelab.io

So, what we have accomplished thus far:

- account authorization
- dashboard with work order creation forms and transfers, displaying portfolio graphs, open order graphics (pairs charts and trends are stubs)
- Exchange page with a display of orders, forms for creating orders for buying/selling tokens, history and selection of a pair (the chart is disabled)
- Explorer page (without interactive, but with current data)
- Your and another user data (no blacklist)
settings page with an option to change nodes and access permissions
- contact page
- a chart in the exchange screen
- check-in

What we are currently working on:

- Voting
- Blacklist
- Creating a worker

Work on the prototyping of the interface continues simultaneously, and we are pleased to share with you the new interface layouts designed for mobile devices:

Tablets - https://invis.io/JBQQ3M12A7E
Phones - https://invis.io/5TQJ19JFW6H

Unfortunately, there continues to be an obstacle that has accompanied us for most of the project: we still have not received the support of many leading BitShares stakeholders and our budget is very limited.

We urge those among you who have not yet voted for our business proposal to do so. Every voice counts!

Offline blockchained

Friends!

Despite a lack of active support from major BitShares stakeholders, the joint team of Rossul / Graphene Lab continues to work as planned and remains hopeful that funding will be renewed.

Today we would like to offer you a sneak preview our vision of a genuinely adaptive BitShares user interface.

The primary goal of our project is to create a scalable product that could evolve and expand, ensuring the maximum level of adaptiveness for BitShares users. The most obvious example is the new concept of dashboards with configurable widgets which allow users to customize the new UI to accommodate their needs.

Users will be able to choose Widgets from the Widget Library and arrange them in any order, ensuring they can easily see all the necessary data needed to successfully complete their tasks. On top of that, users will be able to have multiple dashboards with different sets of widgets. For example a dashboard for trading, a dashboard for business needs, a dashboard for managing funds, etc.

A central aspect of the system architecture is the ability for the community to create new widgets, both free and commercial, which will be available through Widgets Marketplace.

This would allow users to complete customization over their personal User Experience with all the tools needed under their fingertips.

Dashboard:

Below is the concept of the Dashboard with Quick Sell/Buy widget, Quick Transfer Funds, Stock Watch, Open Orders, Trade Volume and other widgets.

Pictures HQ https://invis.io/ZJQ9B20VPH5

Exchange

Below is a concept of the redesigned Exchange interface, which can be flexibly configured. The rearrangeable panels allow users to focus on the task on hand. Whether a bigger chart window is needed or an extended viewing of open orders, we've got it covered. The UI can be further fine-tuned using the panel width adjustment feature.

Pictures HQ https://projects.invisionapp.com/share/ZJQ9B20VPH5#/screens

The current UI desktop layouts of the official BitShares application cover approximately 75% of the functionality, and we have started porting them into mobile devices.

Important Note

We would really appreciate the results of our efforts to be made available to the community. It would be valuable to have a real embodiment in a modern, productive, and effective software product, for the realization of which we have all the capabilities and skills. We urge the BitShares community to continue supporting our project by voting for our working proposal.

If you have not yet voted for our working proposal, you can do so in the Voting / Workers section of all main user interfaces that interact with the BitShares blockchain.

Our worker: 1.14.124 2018-09-rossul-UI

Dear Friends!
Today we are pleased to present some of the results of the work of the joint team of Rossul / Graphene Lab:

    - User feedback collected during the research stage
    - Component diagram and navigation of the current BitShares official GUI
    - Graphene Lab's progress report
    - Layouts (Interactive Wireframes) of the new user interface of the official BitShares application.

The layouts are available as an interactive prototype covering sections of the application that were previously identified as priorities for the design at the stage of the study conducted at the beginning of the project (see the questionnaire).

To date, Rossul specialists are in the final stages of completing the prototyping of the desktop versions of the interfaces and are proceeding with the mobile version of the layouts. Graphene Lab is currently focusing on completing the preparatory stages, which included analysis and load testing of the current API version and conducting extensive consultations with Rossul in preparation for the development phase.

The situation with the recall of votes from active working proposals of BitShares does not affect the work of the joint team, as there is a certain reserve for the working budget. as However, for the successful completion of the project and the implementation of all planned phases, we need the support of the BitShares community. We urge you to vote for our working proposal and help bring closer the realization of the cherished dream of many - to ensure more accessibility of the blockchain and DAC BitShares for a wide range of users which can ensure the ecosystem’s sustainable development.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, we will not be able to process the entire feedback that may follow the publication - however, we believe that at the moment the results of our work warrants some attention from the community.

Thank you, Rossul + GrapheneLab team

Hello Friends and colleagues!
Today we will publish a regular update on the current status of the BitShares UI redesign project, carried out by the joint team of Rossul / Graphene Lab.

Almost two months have passed since the official start of the project, and at the moment we have completed the first two phases: Research and Information Architecture which include:

    - Identifying the focus groups of application users
    - Identifying a list of questions and formed questionnaires for both a public audience and expert users
    - Use cases and main workflows
    - Information Architecture schemas
    - Active consultations with experts and focus groups of both the official BitShares application as well as other parties that develop similar services.
    - Conducted metric measurements, performance testing and optimization as well as load testing of the existing interface.

At the moment, we have collected enough information to progress to the next stage of the project: Desktop Layouts Wireframes. We plan to start with the most important modules:

    - Exchange
    - Personal Area
    - Transfer and receipt of funds

We are actively working on prototyping a new interface. In the process of this work, we will keep consulting with the field experts to address all concerns and ongoing issues.

In order to optimize the development process, we consciously avoid a broad discussion of the decisions made, however, we are in constant contact with the current GUI development team and active members of the BitShares community.

If you use BitShares for your business or have been active trading for more than 1.5 years, please contact us at https://t.me/bts_rossul_ux

Important!

In connection with the unexpected increase in votes for “refund400k”, a number of important projects such as the UX/UI redesign (our project), Trusty community UI, HackTheDex, Independent BitShares infrastructure and other have left the payout area.

If you want to support the listed projects please revoke your vote from the refund400k worker

Thank you

Dear BitShares users!

We are pleased to announce that our initiative aimed at updating the official BitShares Web UI has taken off. Our working proposal is not only finalized and agreed upon with interested stakeholders but it also received the necessary support from the community. We have begun the project and from now on you will be able to see the progress reflected in the project roadmap.

One of the most important things for us that would define the success of the project is feedback from the most active and interested users of the BitShares community. We need to deepen our understanding of how you use the BitShares application, what features are important for you, what frustrates you about the User Interface, etc.

Decades of experience in designing and implementing complex User Interfaces and crafting User Experience in conjunction with your feedback will allow us to take BitShares to the next level and design a new version of the application that is intuitive, responsive, scalable and much easier to use.

We’d like to extend an invitation to you all to fill out the questionnaire and share your experience with the current BitShares Wallet

http://bitshares.rossul.com/index.html#progress.

The questionnaire is quite simple and should not take over 10 minutes to complete.

Looking forward to receiving your feedback.

- ROSSUL and Graphene Lab teams.

ROSSUL and Graphene Lab are excited to present a new version of the Bitshares Exchange UX Design proposal (2018-09-rossul-ui (Worker 1.14.124). This new version was created in close cooperation with BitShares Blockchain Foundation (BBF) and the current UI team.

https://www.bitshares.foundation/workers/2018-09-rossul-ui

Changes and upgrades:

1. We decided to take an advantage of escrow services offered by BBF – thus, a new proposal was published on the blockchain on behalf of workers.bitshares.foundation.
2. The proposal now includes cooperation with the current UI team and makes it easier for the current UI team to continue supporting the new UI.
3. Refined internal and external collaboration process that includes 3 teams.
4. The proposal more clearly identifies the boundaries and rules of support for the components being developed as part of the proposal.

In addition, the time frame for the proposal was changed, since the start and end dates are no longer relevant – the work on the new proposal starts in October 2018 and continues until the end of March 2019 (5 months, including a small reserve).

We encourage the community to support the new version of the proposal. You can vote for the proposal with the help of the official BitShares application in the Voting menu, the Proposed tab, 2018-09-rossul-ui (Worker 1.14.124)

Due to the inability to remove the initial proposal from the blockchain (Worker 1.14.114), we are kindly asking you withdraw your votes form the original worker and move them to new one 2018-09-rossul-ui (Worker 1.14.124).

BBF mustn't be the only choice, and also shouldn't be.
No one seeks to have only one centralized escrow. It is merely one (afaik the only one) that offers auditable bitUSD worker escrow and is the voted spokesperson, aka has the BTS holders trust.

Has BLCKCHND introduced themselves as an escrow? You can also consider asking trusted members of the community.

Initially, we planned to work through the BLCKCHND team, but now we are discussing the possibility to launch a worker through the BBF. We already wrote them and are waiting for an answer to discuss possible cooperation options

* We are discussing escrow optoins. Will update you as soon as we have all the details.
* There shoud no be duplicated efforts of course. We offer to redesign and code a new UI. Once it is launched the current UI should be retired and the maintenece resourse should be directed toward the new UI. UX is a continious effort and. Good eamples are FB, Google, etc that push updates and tweeks to their products bi-weekly.
* We will research user types, their behavour, worflows and features they use. That woul allow us to design a product that serves well all user types, simple for casual users and yet powerful for the advanced and pro audience.

This worker proposal looks great, but I hope this worker and the bitshares-ui worker proposal teams can collaborate rather than duplicate work efforts?

This is not a duplicated effort. The current worker supports the current UI.
We propose to redesign it, make it much more user-friendly and intuitive.

When we launch the new UI users still should be able to toggle between them. Therefore we need to support both for some time.
When the old UI retired (stop being supported and updates) then we can join the effort on the support of the new one.

Define "launch"? By saying "current UI should be retired", you mean the wallet.bitshares.org one? So your new product will contain all features included in "current UI"? I'm afraid it's too much work for you in such a short time. IMHO even if the new UI will replace the current UI in the future (to be hosted on wallet.bitshares.org), the two UI need to live simultaneously for a period (host the new UI in a new domain name), thus give us time to move features to new UI step by step. Not to mention that we probably need a way for users to migrate backups if the backup methods are different.

Launch - the UI and available for beta/public use.
I believe it would be great to let users toggle between the old and the new UI during the testing period. Similar to what Google does with new Gmail UI.
It then will be up to the community to decide when to retire (stop supporting) the current one.

Do you plan to continuously maintain the codebase afterwards?

It should be "feature-complete". At least all features that are now present will make its way to the new UI + a few more mentioned by Graphene Lab

The current worker does not include continuous maintenance, however we are not going anywhere and will post a new worker to tweak, maintain and support the UI and UX

Can you please discuss the very issue of Stealth that is actually important, namely that it benefits mostly STEALTH holders, and not BTS holders?

I have pointed that out couple days after your proposal has been posted.

this feature is not the main priority of UX/UI worker is an example of what can be implemented if community want so
if it doesn't, no drama

Agreed, but for that a in-depth presentation of the background ongoings needs to be done, so the user actually is aware of the key aspects of the fee-backed stealth transfer. There are also BSIPs in the pipeline for Stealth Phase II.

I like the general concept of the worker. It looks well prepared and structured and leaves options for some control over the process to the community and voters.

My main concerns are:

 * lack of escrow - you are asking for USD payment, but will receive BTS from the blockchain. You also define milestones. I think it would be best that you also setup an escrow group with independent and trusted entities of the community (not your own team members)
* Duplicate efforts - quite some resources already go towards UI development (current UI code base). Given that you propose to "go from there", my fear is that we end up with two projects that diverged and continue to consume resources to maintain them.
* Who is the target-user for your UI? You can't deliver a product that fits the needs of everyone.

* re Discussion/Research - as being supported by Rudex who is active part of this community as gateway, 3rd party exchange, development team, UI FORK of BitShares and a paid block producer, i fail to see why you have to do research and collect funds from the blockchain for the knowledge already available right here on this forum (public opinions, feedback on UI), Rudex who is very reliable and rich resource of knowledge and not to mention github for UI team and all the issues opened there.

The information we have available on this forum and Github is raw data that has not been processed for use. It is unstructured, incomplete and often random.

The point of the research phase is to analyze available data, process, categorize and prioritize. It includes tech requirements discussion and analysis, competitors review, stakeholder surveys, response analysis as well as user personas (aka user types). We need to categorize users into types, understand their expectations, behaviours, needs, and motivations through methodical, investigative approach. The goal is to ensure that all product design decisions do benefit the user.

Hope it makes sense.

BTW, the design research part is only $14,100.

Best, and thanks again for your interest.

Hi and thank you for your review and comments.

Re: Outdated Job Manager plugin – thanks for noticing. I've forwarded your comments to our developers.

Re: Rates. At ROSSUL we never work on an hourly basis for multiple reasons, we believe it is much easier for our clients to know exactly what they are going to pay for a solution to their problem. Therefore we do not quote based on how many screens need designing, or how much time we spend on crafting the solution. If the scope is not changed during the project the quote doesn't change.

Re: "Documentation preparing and process". The initial phase is the Research Phase that we need to discuss and set up success criteria and metrics, we need to research and create user personas to know who we design for, their goals, and mental models. We need to interview and analyze the responses of the stakeholders and ensure we are all on the same page with aligned expectation and goals. That includes all team members on our side too. The outcome of this phase: Goals and Metrics documents, Persona files, compiled stakeholder feedback, High-level functional specs, etc. Unfortunately, we cannot publish research documents publicly because of strict NDAs. We design commercial products and most of them are not available to the public. The financial industry is very sensitive in that respect as you know.

Re: Time allocation. Roughly, the research phase will take about 1/4 of the design time. 2/4 go into workflows and wireframing. 1/4 goes into skin design.

We'll be publishing more info as we receive more questions. Probably here or on Steemit.

Thanks again for your interest and questions.

ROSSUL

Many thanks for this reply!

* re Rossul website - You are most welcome. Website deserves proper management with that kick-ass results!
* re Costs/prices - its very common nowadays in IT development to have fixed prices for packages where "extra features"/"Additional requests" would be added to invoice. Thanks for this explanation.

For that last one, i just think its waste of time and resources for already existing/built knowledge database, well known to people introduced you here.

Anyhow, since i'm managing worker who is similar to this one (just not competitive to UI team or yourself or anyone else, since we are doing Community Wallet), I had to do due diligence on you guys, in order to show it was with no bad intentions:

WE, as myself and Trusty team (who set me up as a proxy) give you our modest VOTE on your proposal, to support healthy and creative spirit of both teams and your workers!

Best of luck and one more time many thanks for your offer,

Milos DL Preocanin.

web/ui review analysis

- You have 7 images that are resized through html or css, instead of pre-scaling them. *Probably done in a rush during deliver, i completely understand - nothing bad
- 22 images needs optimization (around 250kb+ can be saved)
- Leverage browser caching on hosting is missing.
- Expiry Headers ?
- It's good practice to minify css and js for the production stage

Overall: 1.4s load, 1.77MB Total Load, 42 Requests (single page?) - Testing done from Vancouver, Canada, by GTMetrix.

Google PageScore - ... F
YahooSlow - Lower C

Thanks for your comments, we have slightly reworked the site and increased the download speed.

Thanks,

Now missing part:

1. Based on what ground you did price estimate of entire project, including design and implementations with API and new functionality (that is still unknown) to the penny and what rates you've been applying (hourly, corporate predefined rates, etc...) ?
2. "Transfer an existing project", could you please elaborate more on this item ?
3. Can we see example of "Documentation preparing and process" you've done for previous clients that costs 25200 USD ? Any REAL example of your portfolio ?
4. I heard question from Fuzzy can you list one of those "New functionalities", but actually failed to catch any of it prepared ?
5. at the cost of ~51k USD a month fixed, and 4.5 months duration of this project, how much time you plan to invest in :
a) research and interviews
b) documentation and build markup
c) design
d) Actual implementation of everything from a), b) and c).

Thanks.

2 - We plan at this stage to transfer from the current interface all the already implemented features to the new interface
4 - Later, together with the community, we will select the most desirable functionality and implement it. Discussion will take at least two ways - an open dialogue and research

Comments on content of the page:

1. "BitShares" is going with capitol S (don't know why but have been told like that since day one :) )
2. Typos in header/body intro:
"Bitshares Decentralized Exchange that uis user friendly, intuitive and responsive."
"We plan to develop a new version of Bitshares Echanange and realted tools that are:"
3. Following paragraphs(titles) have same content:
- Useful
- Light & Responsive
- React JS
- Latest Technologies
- Easy to Maintain

First of all welcome to the BitShares blockchain with your offer! I'm community quality control freak, especially when it comes to UI/Web/Hosting, so this is nothing personal just basic quality/reality check before questions of other stake-holders and myself. Hope we can provide to each other some proper feedback/replies.

I would ask for these clarifications:

1. You will redesign/revamp existing bitshares-ui that is open-source or you will build new from scratch using existing React libraries ?
2. You have no mockup included in the offer and offer basic requirement to provide such thing is Research, Documentation, Interviews, Discussion that costs 25,200.00 USD ?
2a. (If above answer is Yes) - Based on what ground you did estimate of entire project, including design and implementations with API and new functionality (that is still unknown) to the penny and what rates you've been applying (hourly, corporate predefined rates, etc...) ?
3. "Transfer an existing project", could you please elaborate more on this item ?
4. Type of the worker would be "fixed" ?
5. Terms of payment ?

ROSSUL.COM - FRIENDLY REVIEW

Amazing results and optimization done to your WordPress. Real Corporate template and really tuned WordPress. Each page, each item. No remarks! Well done.

Now, you do have security issue there. Job-manager plugin is outdated/obsolete for 3 years and you haven't replaced it yet. You do manage portfolio regularly (1 client delivered in 2018 and 2 in 2017 according to upload dates - where few dates same as outdate plugin). Blogging is on top level, so you do take care SEO well and visibility/sales.

huge "-" for security and plugin management
great "+" for seo/portfolio management and wordpress initial optimizations.

Looking forward to your reply!

Cheers!

Hey there BLCKCHND,

welcome to the UI :)

Is the idea to create a full featured UI, or to create a targeted (e.g. For Trader) easy to use UI that might skip features?

Also, I am wondering what the existing project is that will be transfered in the development phase?

Offline blockchained

Bitshares users, many of you are probably wondering - why is such an advanced blockchain not receiving the attention it deserves? How can one of the high performing and efficient consensus algorithms such as DPoS evoke nothing but scepticism from the general public concerning the  lack of liquidity of decentralized markets for almost half a decade functioning on Bitshares DEX?

Conducting comprehensive studies are not necessary to find an answer to this question. It is common knowledge that a complex and problematic registration process is the greatest deterrence that Bitshares blockchain users face, and if one does manage to overcome that obstacle, remaining an active user is just as challenging. The current experience offered by Bitshares blockchain is tedious, complicated, and difficult to navigate.

Proposal for the UX/UI improvement of Bitshares Exchange

Our teams (Rossul and Graphene Lab) have come together for the purpose of developing this proposal. Both teams within this partnership are highly experienced in our respective fields, which require a deep understanding of both blockchaining and cryptocurrency. Bitshares blockchain is a service we both use on a daily basis and are greatly familiarized with. This gives us the capability to precisely pinpoint the current pitfalls of the interface and identify what steps need to be taken in order address and correct them. It is our belief that combining our knowledge and skills will allow us to produce a high quality result that will transform the confusing and disheartening experience users have when interacting with this blockchain into one that is both accessible and effortless.

So what changes have to be implemented into Bitshares to make this goal a reality? The answer is simple - we have to make it easy to use, intuitive, and as user friendly as possible.

Over the years, Bitshares has been referred to as a service developed “by engineers, for engineers”. The problem is that regular users who are new to the cryptosphere are usually unfamiliar with the blockchain, and in order to attract and maintain their attention the product should be simple and easy to use. Finding specific features should be straightforward and allow for an outstanding user experience.

Designing a user-centered, intuitive, and usable product for consumer is what we specialize in. Our skill set gives us a unique advantage to focus on details and areas that may be overlooked by engineers, developers, and coders. What this blockchain needs is a excellent, professional, and advanced UX/UI design. We are committed to addressing this demand in the most efficient way possible and to the best of our abilities.

http://bitshares.rossul.com/ - the full offer for the Bitshares stakeholders.

Allow Bitshares blockchain reach its full potential!

Should this offer be approved, Bitshares blockchain users will get a new and augmented interface by the end of 2018. This will allow them to not only to operate assets in a fast, easy, and comfortable way, but also take full advantage of the blockchain’s other capacities not yet known by the majority due to accessibility issues. Code improvements and fixes would be proposed simultaneously.
