General Discussion / Re: DPOS thought

That said, If someone wants to fork the code to launch BTSXDilution, good luck to them. Conversely, if the BTSX equity holders in majority want to change BTSX to BTSXDilution, so be it. We can re-launch BTSXnodillution.

So here's the trillion dollar question: if Dan and I3 support BTSXDilution and reject providing any additional support to BTSXnodilution other than "our code is on GitHub," what would you do then?

Ok good question.  I don't have the answer....but I would hope the answer would be that the bitshares toolkit core support would extend to all versions of BTSX.  Beyond that, the launching entity or equivalent to dacsunlimited (in the case of btsx) would launch the alternative.  The health of the Bitshares ecosystem would be measured in use/uptake of bitshares toolkit.

I might add that I hope BTSX remains unified and that these discussions are largely exploratory...

Yes, I've been following the discussion that Bytemaster began. I don't think it represents the majority of participants within the bitsharesX network wanting dilution. I hope that after the discussion, reason will prevail.

There are many ways of growing the BTSX network that we have not attempted and evaluated and many potential means of funding those efforts without resorting to dilution.

Dilution represents a critical move away from the key principals that original BTSX participants used to evaluate their investment. It also clearly sets a precedent within the BTSX network.

That said, If someone wants to fork the code to launch BTSXDilution, good luck to them. Conversely, if the BTSX equity holders in majority want to change BTSX to BTSXDilution, so be it. We can re-launch BTSXnodillution.

Network participants will put value where they think it should be....the overall network effect will continue to increase (based on utility) and eventually one network may become stronger than the other. There could be many versions of BTSX, all of which could keep changing the rules along with some that don't, it's all good as long as over time, more people are attracted to crypto in general and society benefits from the power of money being more widely distributed.

If crypto currency/equity survives, DPOS being the superior choice to date, then so many things about people and our societies will change. The potential that will be unlocked across the planet is colossal.

Take education, the quality will go up over time (via the introduction of important truths) and therefore the quality of the decisions of those participating in consensus networks will go up, strengthening these networks.

Let's worry about the tyranny of the minority in the present before we assume stupidity and tyranny of the majority in the future.

I completely understand the desire to protect intellectual capital from parasites.

However, this technology is about far more than winning an arms race.

It's about changing the world - and I'm not being glib.

If other platforms can use the ideas generated here to advance decentralized global finance, so much the better.

Bitcoin -> Bitshares -> ?

I don't know what's next, but the sooner we (as in humanity) get there, the better.

TL;DR an open community is the only way forward.

Totally agree with oldman

General Discussion / Re: Checklist for PTS to DPOS: You can help!
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:49:56 am »
Is it not possible that PTS could gain value as the Bitshares DAC economy grows?  I don't believe in the theory that we will run out of innovative DACs and that PTS will terminaly decline in value.  I think it's possible that once several Bitshares DACs have proven their utility and value in the market, PTS could be perceived as harbouring significant value due to the social consensus.  They are finite after all.

As long as the dynamics of PTS's role in the social consensus does't change, launching it as an asset within BitsharesX makes sense.

Allowing I3 to retain a percentage of the unmined PTS also make sense to me......burn the rest.

Please use this thread to post updates, corrections & suggested enhancements to the DAC Summary Table which will hopefully be published to the Bitshares Wiki in short order.  If useful, the table could be developed and turned into a website.

The aim is to provide a single go-to point for a detailed summary of useful & current information relating to the developing Bitshares DAC Economy.

The table in it's current form can be downloaded from Mega using this link;

Sure go ahead !  I agree it is borderline but right now I just want to see things moving a bit ...  So create the thread !  (I want to see TASKFORCE's started by others..)

I will also add your site to the grass roots marketing post which is also where I've started assembling a list. I plan on renaming that thread, just not sure what to do with it.

edit - Can people edit the spreadsheet or would we need to save a new version and upload it elsewhere ?

Ok will do.  I uploaded the table to the Mega storage site temporarily.  It would be great if someone, Robrigo kindly offered, could make a table based on it that could be published to the wiki then the file can go.

Looks like a good central repository for this type of information! Well done. A couple suggestions:

  • Add http://dotp2p.io for DNS DAC official website
  • Maybe change "Allocation Model" heading to "Genesis Allocation Model" and add DNS DAC allocation: 40% PTS / 40% AGS / 20% Developers
  • Add VOTE DAC allocation model: 30% PTS / 30% AGS / 30% FollowMyVote / 1% NuSpark / 1% Virginia Tech / 8% New River Valley Promotion
  • Consider having an "Additional Resources" section and put the PeerTracks link under it? AFAIK PeerTracks isn't "officially" launching the Music DAC, the BitShares Music Foundation is. So they will just be the first front-end provider to ease use of the DAC. Maybe this isn't as important though.

All in all, great job. I think it would be a good move to transpose this into a table on http://wiki.bitshares.org. If I can get edit access on the wiki I would be happy to help.

Great idea about the wiki robrigo.  I've update the spreadsheet with points/corrections made so far...

Perhaps a Task Force entry would be useful as a place for community members to post updates to the wiki table so that it is always kept as fresh and accurate as possible.  Suggested enhancements could also be made there.....

Not sure if this qualifies as a Task Force task Gamey....I put together a spreadsheet of DAC information which could be enhanced and kept up-to-date by community members.  I am not technical at all so I'm not the guy to take this further although i'll gladly check in and update.  What do you think? https://mega.co.nz/#!FZ9TCZ5T!h_whA_dGvwZ_GMaCCkFhXy9mOPVd--rHBpZd8fy_g3c

Other then 'stealing' my idea https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=8881.msg115238#msg115238

and putting bit* in front of the next word (which annoys me more and more by the day)

They are missing the first 2 elements of the 'one earth one nation concept'. One should start with :

-money
-vote

...

I would add information to that list, so like BDNS. Information-Money-Vote

I think BitNation is putting together elements these kind of concepts

Consensus technology has the power to make governments irrelevant to the provision of law, courts, crime prevention, contract enforcement, voting, or any other so-called public good.

I am not claiming that governments will be overthrown or that people will vote them out of office, instead I mean to say that their rulings and opinions will be of no practical significance once superior consensus technologies are able to garner more influence and power through voluntary, nonviolent, entirely legal action than governments can wield at gunpoint.

That's one of my favorite Bytemaster quotes.  It helps me sleep at night....truly.  Thanks for digging it up!

Governance utilities are where I have always hoped blockchain tech would take us!  Consensus-regulated governance, ie about the truest representation of democracy you could have.....with room for innovation!

You are probably right, they are unlikely to switch......which leave one enormous hole for Bitshares and DPOS to fill.  I know several of these governance type utilities are worked on already....but imagine the impact of unifying them!

Is it POS?

Not that i'm aware of....
