General Discussion / Re: BitShares X Status Update

How about we let him develop it rather than asking more questions?

Djeezus, sorry for asking but this could be extremely important, somewhat important or not important at all…. but give me a break, I am not asking him to implement:

- a blockchain that captures/integrates the world's energy (*1),
- an assisted suicide block chain (*2),
- or do something about Maidsafe, which  apparently is coming up with the app of all apps (that does nothing… sorry for misspeaking… is so great we will be all forced to buy it, no matter if it is in our best interest to do so or not) (*3)

BM said: “Today I implemented support for multi-sig, cross-chain-trading”
Can you tell us more about that? (comprehendible for the age group of 4 to 7 year old would be best!)

General Discussion / Re: MaidSafe IPO on Mastercoin
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:28:50 pm »
I will make a prediction and you can all wait to see if it comes true.

The first killer app for MaidSafe will be a decentralized autonomous cloud mining app.

They'll probably make us use our Safe tokens to buy shares and then mine whatever we want from the cloud. The mining operation would scale up dramatically faster. It could host our wallets in the cloud, connect to our Bitcoin address for payout. It could mine anything and do it as hosted mining.

This app alone would guarantee the success of Safecoin in my opinion. If enough of these sorts of decentralized apps exist then they'll replace mining pools pretty quickly, as well as the highly centralized mining cartel as we currently know it.

So I'll be the first to predict that MaidSafe will disrupt the whole Proof of Work culture and community. If it's easy enough to build apps maybe some Bitshares related apps would be really cool because MaidSafe seems to do everything Ethereum is intending to do.

Enlighten us why do you think so?

“Proof of Resource for storage space would be a situation where the farmer gives a certain amount of storage space to the network and they would be paid in Safecoins from people who don't have any storage space to give.”

One with his right mind would think this is the case. Reading the paper though it seems that farmers/miners will receive Safecoins as mining reward for  providing the space… who and how much and for what reasons will be looking to buy safecoins is something not totally clear yet.

In other words the craziness to use price fixing in their IPO is just the first of crazy/stupid ideas they have in mind. The second and bigger one seems to be to disconnect the supply of safecoins from the demand for them… All in all I am pretty happy to have dropped 0 money on this IPO as this thingy is going to 0 pretty soon, if those guys do not wake up.

Wait, wait, wait,
hold your horses Dan…;” You can instantly send money anywhere in the world, hold deposits of gold, silver, etc.”
As far as I know you can hold ‘assets’ that will (hopefully) follow the price of gold…

General Discussion / Ebit give back
« on: April 24, 2014, 02:28:38 am »
I just want to mention that ebit (the guy who sent 6120 PTS by mistake to the AGS account), made a ‘thank you’ donation to several accounts more notably to:
9.99 PTS PforumPLfVQXTi4QpQqKwoChXHkoHcxGuA
9.99 PTS PZAURigRC4qMYenw1XTHgT7UHhRKq8P72u
9.99 PTS PZ5HY1MWutWhnNemrG5DCAti8AmMvDBmnE
As well as mine and several other for smaller amounts.
… I just wanted you to know, as well as to say thank you.

ebit,
Did you sent 'thank you' PTS to some addresses or it was a mistake too?
If not a mistake  - I do not know if you are sending them to those that tried to help to resolve the issue or those slammed by the extra-large donation (as I believe I qualify for both)
But in either case -  Thank you!!

General Discussion / Re: Supply Side Economics

I am not trying to start an argument!
I am simply trying to take a peek into your brain.
“backed by equity in a bank which is earning revenue from transaction fees”
Bank lending what – its own shares(*)… shares that are producing revenue by being lent to willing borrowers?

(*) not directly but lending something that is backed by only them themselves

[EDIT]Question 'human action' as in Mises understanding?

What happens with the extra bitAssets paid as fee?
All is converted to BTS or as much as needed.

General Discussion / Supply Side Economics
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:45:43 pm »
People will be earning a ton of safecoin by providing resources to the network and most will be looking to sell it.
.....
A ton of air is going to a ton of people... what is its value?    Why buy what you can earn.  The network effect you want is demand based on scarcity and not supply based on abundance.

Price is driven by supply and demand, with safe coin there is ample supply but no demand.  Those that hold it are constantly debased to fund the growing of the network.

Maidsafe is a case study in the same <b> supply-side economics </b> that is destroying the fiat economy.

I have always wondered how you reconcile your supply-side views with being the creator of bitAsset backed by nothing.
One of the main objection in the supply side towards the current fiat currencies is that they are not  backed by gold/silver and because of that are causing an array of problems (mainly inflation).
Do you consider yourself more of a game theory follower than a supply-side proponent?

[EDIT] Probably not the best place to ask this question (if you have along answer you/toast can move this someplace), as this is pretty general question pretty unrelated to the discussion, but interesting thing to know anyway.

Can somebody enlighten where the technology failure in this matter was???
I do not see how the technology of Bitshares could have prevented this for happening… Maybe BM is a better guy and would have advised against price fixing but believing bitShares have some inherent qualities that could prevent the today’s fiasco from happening  is wishful thinking…

Sure, make 10k clients, let them sit for 3 months, then make big enough transaction, and if they have the best scored transaction of the last 5000, you have the chance to do exactly what (in an otherwise good design definitely not double spent, maybe not include transaction or few…)?

[EDIT] with such amount of resources you will be able to control probably 3-5% of those 100 delegates not on a once in a while bases but most of the time.

This was a strange day!
Ssome of your PTS will be refunded to you. The rest will get about 4.17 AGS/PTS.
All this according to BM's current solution.

I do not know if he has pro-mining ones but the one I resently quated have nothing to do with it.

Actually Adam is:
Somebody that puts my thoughts in better English than I could ever do.
Sometimes I wish I could send him my thoughts so he can mix them with his (or not) and post them on this forum…
He is the ‘important minority’ that tries to keep you all going overboard with love and exuberant expectations.

Here is a great post of his that I sign after:
I wish Daniel had focused on delivering Bitshares as envisioned and then created subsequent versions or products that incorporate these elements.  That is what I signed on for, not "whatever daniel larimer thinks is a good idea this week".    The delays have been because the focus and method has constantly pivoted to be "the best possible" when in reality not having launched the product we don't even know what is best and if these "improvements" are making things better or worse, since we've never had an opportunity to see a product to compare against.

You have faith in Daniel, the people who remain on these forums clearly do which is why it's an echo chamber and people with dissenting views find themselves shouted down by the people who are passionate about the bitshares vision instead of pragmatic about the reality.      I'm using these 2.0 products every day (projects on Mastercoin, Counterparty, I'm working with the NXT and Ethereum communities), this is not a hypothetical situation.

Bitshares was in first, and now they're in last - Even Ethereum has highly functional test code out for interested parties to build contracts on, why are we reinventing the transaction processing wheel?

Because Daniel decided mining is dead, and that's been the technological focus ever since.   Mining will eventually be phased out, but it should NEVER have replaced the core mission of delivering Bitshares, and it clearly did.
