I love this thread! It's so easy to find new music these days (what with the internet and all).
But being handed it on a plate like this is fantastic. I've listened to at least some of each of the above.

By the way, Stan and Dan are father and son, not brothers.

If there is a lot of this...

In some sense .. people that took their stake out of the genesis just to VOTE .. benefit from this ..
Lucky me .. still not sure if I want it .. it is kind of unfair .. at least to the devs/I3 ..

//edit: I'll most certainly send my 'extra' stake back to you guys .. I won't take it!
It just doesn't feel right to get a bonus for moving my funds out of the genesis block

...combined with a lot of this...

Actually I'm not a trader, I was newbie trying to get a wallet registered because I couldn't move my DNS otherwise
and so I left my DNS on my BTER account for a few days and now..

I'm SOL simply because..??  a bitshares registration procedure prevented me from immediately moving my dns purchase from the exchange which I would have normally done.

Quite a memorable first BitShares experience I'm having..

All those who bought at Bter are out of luck? All those who claimed after the announcement and sold are also at a loss?

The gainers are those who claimed earlier and sold immediately after the announcement. They got a good price and some free DNS.

Or have I misunderstood it all completely?

I don't think there are any losers except those with funds on the exchange and US.  Those with funds on an exchange were "traders"... those who bought in the days prior and withdrew to hold are OK... those who bought or sold after the announcement are also OK.

...could we organize a shuffling act to compensate people such as sirlo?

I'm lacking technical knowledge, but could this work? sirlo has been very unfortunate, and posted here on the forum about it. xeroc has been outstanding with his attitude. What if we could discover people in sirlo's position and also those like xeroc, and even things out a bit? I guess it's not feasible, but I want to ask the question just in case...

I know xeroc wasn't offering anything to sirlo - I just want to ascertain whether or not the idea is feasible and also whether or not the community would want to support people like sirlo.

30 day rule must be implemented now! The community must unite and set up some real bitUSD volume/bots. Having it on an exchange so it is possible to trade bitUSD directly to bitcoin would also be a huge advantage, especially if it could end up becoming the hedge of choice like nuBits has managed to become on bter and ccedk.

I wasn't aware that funds got locked up for that long in shorts. I think the developers are working on bots and this (hopefully). Out of interest, isn't nuBits just another alt-coin that suffers the same volatility issues as Bitcoin? In otherwords there is no way to know in reality where the price will actually end up making its useful as a hedge more a gamble than anything else?

30 days would be the maximum time (not minimum)

By the way, I believe the problem I mentioned on page 2 of this topic is resolved by this (thanks pc) https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9760.msg126795#msg126795

Sounds like a bounty.. Who wants to recreate the snapshot?

There are several DACs coming up soon, I feel like we at least need an "official" AGS distribution

Referring to:

Something's not right with address 14fXr2UTa17CadcZ911N7TBFqMLpqsfNae

The same problem arose with Lottoshares here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4879.msg64977#msg64977

AGS Explorer shows 566.53948028 AGS
Your number for this address is 56596237510000

The numbers aren't THAT far out, but other addresses don't seem to have this problem.
I'm curious as to the cause of the discrepancy...

Is it bad form to quote myself? Dunno...

Anyway, is there an explanation for the discrepancy for address 14fXr2UTa17CadcZ911N7TBFqMLpqsfNae?

The figures on AGSexplorer don't seem to match those reported for the genesis blocks.

It's happened with LottoShares and DNS. Will it occur with all DACs? It bothers me because I don't understand it...

DNS rewards PTS as well as donations to AGS also done with PTS. No I didn't misread.

Same private key could get a balance in DNS from the amount you see on AGS explorer as well as PTS balance. Which is guaranteed to be a different number if there was also a PTS holding. (Should however be a higher balance not a lower than what AGS explorer is showing)

I see what you mean, but this donation address is a BTC address, so PTS can be taken out of the equation here.

The problem / puzzle remains...

Thanks bitmeat though! I'd love to make sense of this!

Ags explorer only tracks donations for AGS doesn't include the PTS snapshots from after AGS donation period ended

Did you misread, "Compare AGS balance with DNS balance" for "Compare AGS balance with PTS balance"?

[edit : The DNS balance should be exactly 1000 x AGS balance. That isn't the case for this address (but seems to hold for other addresses).]

PTS are of no relevance to the problem here.

General Discussion / Mistake in AGS distribution (Resolved)

Look here: http://www1.agsexplorer.com/balances/14fXr2UTa17CadcZ911N7TBFqMLpqsfNae

Compare AGS balance with DNS balance. There is an obvious discrepancy in the numbers which doesn't appear to exist for other addresses which have AGS.

The mistake is persisting for each new DAC's genesis block it seems.

(The genesis block for LTS also had a discrepancy for this address - I first asked about these discrepancies in June, but nobody seems to have an answer.)

I've started a topic like this elsewhere, (e.g. https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9510.0) but hope for more visibility here, because I'm so perplexed...

It's niggling me, so I may keep mentioning it until someone tells me to shut up, or some kind of answer is obtained!

Any ideas - what's going on?
In the previous link there was mention of a reward for checking AGS allocations.
I think we need a definitive record of distribution, if there isn't one which is sufficient/correct.

BitShares AGS / Re: Official AGS Distribution
« on: October 04, 2014, 04:18:34 pm »
There should be a definitive way to know how many AGS are allocated to each BTC donation address. The AGS distribution is a fundamental thing which should be correct.

Since my first post on the subject on 6th June, discrepancies between agsexplorer and genesis blocks continue to occur for address 14fXr2UTa17CadcZ911N7TBFqMLpqsfNae https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=4879.msg64196#msg64196

I just want to know why, but I'm not technically proficient or knowledgeable enough to solve the problem.
It's frustrating to see many DACs coming, when I'm reminded of this every time.

I'm tempted to let the subject drop, but on the other hand I'd love an explanation. Can anyone reading this suggest any ideas as to what's going on?

...
That address is the only discrepancy that has been reported, it would be nice if someone investigates.
I'm finalizing the DNS snapshot and will pay discrepancies from the keyhotee AGS which will otherwise be burned.
...

I suppose the only way to find out if there is a discrepancy is for a definitive AGS distribution to be ascertained. I've no idea which is more likely correct between agsexplorer and the genesis blocks...

I'm glad you sorted it out! I bet you were panicking!

I was just reading down the thread (it's a bit old now, I know) with suspense. I love a happy ending when it comes to true stories!

I was going to suggest using SpinRite to fix your hard drive. I've heard a few success stories form Steve Gibson's podcast...
