My main issue with that is I don't have the first clue who would reinvest into growing the DAC, and don't really have the time or motivation to find out. Think of me as a casual user who just wants to spend a little time using Bitshares, but doesn't have lots of time to spare for becoming a part of the community and getting to know people and so on. Finding out who to vote for seems to me at the moment like something which would require a significant commitment of time and effort, but yet I get nothing back (directly) in return for that effort.

I understand that you would like everyone to be altruistic and to be deeply commited to this project you care about and put effort into making sure it succeeds, but as soon as the user-base expands beyond the small group of commited community members who have been involved in the project for a long time to include general users, that is just not going to happen.

I feel a lot of people fall into your category of adopter and will continue to grow.  However, to vote for "good actors" may not require getting to know each candidate.  Looking at the delegate tab in the client you can base your voting choices on a couple rules of thumb:

1) Who has proven reliability with a high percentage and number of blocks produced?  These people will be the most stable.
2) Do you want to support someone that has multiple delegates or not?  Vote according to preference
3) Do you feel the delegate payments should be higher or lower based on what balance you want to see between shareholder value and customer costs.

Answering these questions while looking at the delegate tab would quickly ween down the list of candidates and allow you to participate in determining the course of the market without a huge time commitment.

General Discussion / Re: Total number of shares
« on: July 24, 2014, 02:49:02 pm »

I had similar concerns until, as you said, I did the math.  At the current burn rate of 2200 shares/day it will take 250 years to destroy 10% of the supply.  So even if the burn rate increases by a factor of 10 we'll still have 90% of BTSX shares left after 25 years.

Very nice!!

Also - Isn't it the percentage of produced blocks rather than missed?  Otherwise we're in REALLY bad shape :D .

Hello Bitshares comunity,

I am also a new investor in BTSX. All the concepts of Bitshares really amaze me and I think it will be very successful in future.

I just installed the new wallet and tried to register my account and then transfer some funds from bter.com to test it, but with no luck. Can somebody send me just 1 BTSX so I can activate it :)

Here is my account key: BTSX5JAjbkynsusj6PxixgWypvZGvcWNVGFDJBVpM4TeVggejmV9Pt

Thank you in advance!

Sent!  Good luck :)

Wow, thank you so much! :) I have successfully activated my account!

For some reason I cannot withdraw any BTSX from bter.com. It still says 'Invalid fund password' - I tried several times with my bter.com password and even my wallet password, but with no luck. Maybe some temporal problem with Bter, or I am missing something..

Thanks for your help! :)

You bet!  The fund password on bter is different than your login password for security reasons.  You can request to have it reset.  Also, I've had a large withdraw pending for about an hour now.  I wonder if they're running out of supply...

General Discussion / Re: Hey, BTSX delegates, come here.

FYI - I still support you FOX... I am just approving more than 101 delegates right now so people have a chance to prove what they can do.  The wallet is selecting who gets in at random.

Appreciate the vote of confidence.

Also, I fully support your efforts to distribute the block production among as many unique nodes as possible.

I was able to successfully import my PTS wallet private key into one account. I have used the key (not the file).

"everyone could buy" in theory but in practice ppl aren't going to put there money on a Chinese exchange when they can't even withdraw the btsx and don't know what it is.  I would never use bter unless trying to buy pts and I would not have even heard about btc38 if I were not apart of this community. If it gets on mintpal, bittrex, poloniex and cryptsy there will be ample demand.

I've been using bter for a long time and have found them quite reliable.  They have Two Factor Authentication and separate passwords for log in and fund transfers.  IMHO they have stood the test of time with smooth reliable service and a good amount of coin variety. That said I don't use them as a web wallet but that's just common sense for any exchange.

one thing I can't figure out regarding DPOS. Since stake equals the value of txins in a transaction, opposed to value * coin age, why cannot one not loop transactions to themselves, in order to vote x delegates to the top?

The votes aren't additive by transaction.  They are allocated by BTSX.  So you can loop the transaction but your just reallocating the same votes and paying a trans fee each time.

General Discussion / Re: Keyhotee Founders Claim your BTSX
« on: July 22, 2014, 06:40:17 pm »

The founder ID's are preregistered in the Genesis block.  You claim it by importing your private key from Keyhotee or via the command line using the wallet_import_keyhotee or something similar.

If it was a founder ID it is safe.

My guess is that there are a number of PTS holders that don't understand or don't believe in BTSX and are unloading at their first chance. I see this as a short term thing.

I made (compiled it). Thanks!
Now how do I start the client (webwallet? desktop wallet?)?
System: Ubuntu 14.04

Go to the programs/client/ directory and you should see a binary called bitshares_client or something similar. To make your life easier once you find it type sudo mv bitshares_client /usr/bin/. so it'll be in the path.

Then:
screen bitshares_client to run it.  (sudo apt-get install screen if you don't have it)

Type cntrl-a cntrl-d to put the screen in the background (still running) and screen -r to "resume" your screen session.

Once you're at the Wallet prompt you'll need to create a wallet with wallet_create <name> and then create an account within it.

Once you're all setup type wallet_export to save it out to a .json.  For safety I also quit the client and then went to ~/.BitSharesx/wallets and tar'd the named wallet directory and put it somewhere safe (different machine(s) ).
That sounds like a purely command line version. Is the a gui in linux already?

Not sure, I haven't been able to get the wallet-qt to compile yet. I just built the CLI version for a delegate server.

- what do you mean by " link the coins"? -> If you were a holder of PTS.. by the time the DACs appeared.. you were promised some BTS. Then BTSX goes on.. then the app shows up.. how do i use my DAC converted coins. How do I link the keyhotee private key or key founder to BTSX account?
- what was the question then? Specify "multiplication" -> BTer announced... "Notice: We have scaled all users' BTSX funds based on extending the total BTSX from 4 million to 2 billion. Please beware of the market price change." What I wanted to know.. is if this really happened to the chain too (that I am seeing as it happened), when.. and if your old coins.. where multiplied too, or.. at what conversion ratio if not.

Note: I answered the questions in reverse order. So my answer 1 was the answer to your questions 3 and so on. Sorry for the confusion.

So.. I might have applied the wrong words.. I am not a native English person. I am valuing your dedication though.

Clarification above. I hope. Otherwise.. please comment.

For your first question there are two ways:
1) In the Bitshares-x client go to Accounts->Some_Account->Advanced->Import Wallet->Drag your PTS wallet.dat file onto the field or enter the path.  This will import all your private keys and you'll see a bunch of deposits to that account from "GENESIS". NOTE: The passphrase it asks for is the one from your PTS Wallet so that it can decrypt the .dat.

2) Open PTS wallet, unlock wallet.  In the console type dumpprivkey <public_address> and then do as in 1 but on the import key tab.

SOunds more.. like I was guessing.. but thanks.

Does that convert the snapshot amount of PTS.. even if you don't have that amount of PTS since the DAC snapshot?

Yes.  It's not transferring any money.  It's just proving you own what is already in the snapshot.  You are "claiming" existing allocations with your private keys.
