BitShares PTS / [ANN] PTS snapshot 2014-12-14
« on: December 15, 2014, 12:01:20 am »
For the record: the last block mined and published on the old PoW PTS network is block #81688 with block hash 0000000601e8d786761bc44da1575abe7daaec1b89d743202979c0761490a5c2.

Snapshot data is available at http://ptsags.quisquis.de/pts-2014-12-14.json.gz

We will soon launch the new PTS-DPOS chain.

BitShares PTS / Re: PTS stuck in transit ...

My own experience with bter has been very good. I had some PTS in transit on the 2/28 snapshot and was fully credited by bter.

If you sent coins on the 12th they should be confirmed by now. When in doubt, check the transactions at https://coinplorer.com/PTS .

If you can't get connections with your own wallet, try these:

Code: [Select]
addnode 78.63.85.22 add
addnode 87.106.234.31 add
addnode 157.7.138.47 add
addnode 107.170.207.147 add
addnode 195.177.250.202 add

if the last block is mined 13/12 hope that take snapshot of next block, if not people buying last day/minute pts will be pissed of

People trading on exchanges that honour the snapshot will be fine.

For the others there has been ample pre-warning time.

Anyway I can get my 2080 PTS that was proven stolen back in this snapshot?

It is unfortunately the nature of blockchain technology that it is impossible to prove or disprove that a given transaction was made with or without your consent. We cannot appoint ourselves judges in this case and meddle with the snapshot in your favour (or anyone elses).

Quite the opposite. If we did move these coins back to an address under your control, this could be seen as theft. An actual theft that could easily be proved by the owner of the address currently holding your coins. And I'm not even trying to hide my identity here - I would be an easy target. I'm sorry, but I cannot help you there.

Since dry run 1 is long over now I'm locking this thread. Please create a separate thread if you want to continue the discussion.

I thought the idea was that PTS was to be merged into BTS and the social consensus would be taken from BTS.. PTS serves no purpose now, why are you wasting your time on this? Stop making things confusing for newbies and let PTS die already.

There is no purpose for it. Apparently a few people must've bought up a lot of PTS cheap after it was declared dead by Bytemaster and now they won't shut up about resurrecting it so they can pump and dump it.

Stop the FUD. BM never declared PTS dead.

1313
Can you clarify the exact time? Will it be about 12/14 11:59 PM UTC?

i like to know exactly too

i read poloniex and bter honor snapshot PTS

but im not sure take out exchange because wallet keep hours delay to update and for make confirmations.. go slowly

For PTS the snapshot will be the last block mined before 12/14 ends. It is of course impossible to tell when that will happen. It might have happened already.

This has been discussed at length, for example here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11877.msg159905#msg159905

No need to crosspost the same arguments over and over again.

I withdrew 69 PTS from Peloniex on 12/11 and my wallet still says 69 unconfirmed shares on 12/13. If these shares are not confirmed by 12/14, then I assume they will miss the snapshot and there is nothing I can do about it, right? What time on 12/14 is the snapshot effective?
If the transaction has been included in a block that is sufficient. You don't need more than 1 confirmation to be part of the snapshot.

The snapshot will be taken from the last block mined and published to the network before the end 12/14. Mining is very slow, so every new block could be the last one now.

General Discussion / Re: Least volatile measure of value. What could it be?
« on: December 12, 2014, 01:46:40 pm »
So, you need to find something that does have value everywhere.. and is available to buy in the currencies you want to compare.

Erm, yes. That's basically the question in the OP.

perhaps all measures are relative and all value is an illusion..

Exactly. (The illusion of value *is* a subjective value.)

IMO the problem here is that there is no definition of value. And IMO there can't be such a thing a an absolute, stable measure of value (in the sense of the absolute, stable speed of light). Value is always subjective.

but you can have a stable reference point.. so long as other items are available relative to that.

If you could buy a light bulb in dollar and BTS, then you would have a stable sense of the relative value of those dollar and BTS in terms of light bulbs. What you cannot do is suggest the value of the unit measure because a measure cannot measure itself. Such a relative measure then would help a sense of market direction, certain markets might be overheated and others cool.

You cannot have a stable reference point because there is nothing that has stable value. The value of a light bulb for example is zero in the middle of a desert, just it can climb to silly heights shortly before they are taken from a market that was very much used to them (as recently seen in the EU).

Decent article.

tl;dr: historically, it's always been gold. Commodity basket doesn't work, therefore gold it must be.

IMO the problem here is that there is no definition of value. And IMO there can't be such a thing a an absolute, stable measure of value (in the sense of the absolute, stable speed of light). Value is always subjective.

So, then the delegates need to provide and vote for a new basket price once a month.

How about creating a metaAsset from the bitAssets that we already have? For example, create a basket from bitUSD, bitEUR, bitCNY, bitGLD and bitOIL (once all of these have sufficient price feeds of course). The DAC can track the basket value by looking at the internal markets and create an artificial price feed for the basket.

I will only use the PTS snapshot *IF* someone from the PTS community can produce it for me by December 16.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in this context: PTS snapshots are available at http://ptsags.quisquis.de/ .
