Stakeholder Proposals / Re: missing blocks notify(From BitSuperLab)
« on: August 10, 2014, 03:14:48 pm »

Hey is there something going on with http://blockchain.bitsuperlab.com ? It is missing all of my blocks produced. I'm not even listed on it at all anymore. And when I list all the recent 100 blocks there are several repeats of delegate names so maybe more than me are missing? I haven't missed any blocks I'm just not showing up in the list anymore.

Stakeholder Proposals / Reliable delegate, votes appreciated!
« on: August 09, 2014, 03:16:16 pm »
Recently my votes have gone down a little so I wanted to put myself out there again. I changed my forum name to match my delegate to be more consistent.

According to http://blockchain.bitsuperlab.com/delegate.html currently I am the 12th most reliable delegate at 99.6%. Of those 12 I am number 2 in total blocks produced. I haven't missed a block in over a week, back when I was on version 0.2.3. So far I have not missed a block since upgrading to 0.3.1. I do have a high pay rate but I will lower that rate if the market dictates. At the moment the pay is not that significant anyway.

So please vote for your local noble delegate bdnoble! I will very much appreciate it!

Wait I've figured it out ...  :o

The centralised Internet controls .com .org .net , & if we start .p2p,  there's a risk they use .p2p too. But it's not a problem because all they really control is a ' .  '

But you know what's much cooler than a  '.'? A '!' , and they don't control the '!'

So what about, instead of .TLD's, BitShares DNS takes control of  !TLD's?

BitShares!org, Apple!Com, Party!p2p

Now that is an interesting idea. Although one of the nice things about ".com" is that you can pronounce it "dot com". There's not an easy pronunciation of "!com". I've heard ! pronounced as "bang" but I think it would be a stretch to get people to say it that way.  How about "#com"? Could be pronounced "pound" or "hashtag".

KeyID / Re: TLD suggestions for Agent86's model.

Fair enough on the omnibar concept.

But seriously, .own? Sorry arhag, but I would rather not have any association to the Oprah Winfrey Network. .web is great because it's generic and already means something. And I really like the idea of keeping around .p2p. Still siding with Toast on this one.

I disagree with your opinion about the omnibar. Since chrome has been invented, when the average person types "Hercules" in the omnibar they want to search google for information on the movie or the historical character. I don't want to go to the website for the Bluetooth device. (Hercules.com) I certainly don't want to have to change any settings to search for anything.

I agree with @Toast. I like the second method.

* I think having ".p2p" as the "meta-TLD / ICANN replacement" reads like a type error. Since you'd have to type the full sub-TLD every time, and it is unambiguous with just the sub-TLD, there wouldn't actually be any .p2p domains.
Agreed, there is no need for meta-TLDs.

* The "no TLD" default mode for our master sales model has usability problems because all browsers nowadays have omnibars (I use mine all the time). So whatever the master sales model is, it needs its own dedicated TLD.  Suppose just for this post that we call it ".agent"
I don't think this is as much of an issue as you are making out to be. In chrome, you can configure your search engines to use whatever keyword you want. By default, you can type "google.com<space>search terms" and it will do what you expect. But you can also set it up to be more convenient by going into Settings -> Manage search engines, and changing the keyword to say "g". This allows me to search by just typing "g<space>search terms". Since a space before the first / means the text in the Omnibar is not a valid URL to a domain, Chrome is able to know you are not talking about the TLD g.

* The solution where most ".p2p" names are from the agent model, but a few are reserved for other models, is also a mental type error. Imagine explaining "example.own.p2p was sold via ownership model, but example.pwn.p2p is a subdomain of a name sold via cost carrying model"
Do users really care which model was used to purchase a domain? Only the buyers should care about that. They can afford that slight mental burden in my opinion.

KeyID / Re: lets find a name for the DNS DAC
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:50:25 pm »
Wait wait wait....... I thought we already took care of all this!

When you own SHARES of this DAC it should be called BitShares *** (Which I think DNS is fine therefore BDNS on coinmarketcap). But the "front end" already has a more meaningful name: .p2p and KeyID!!!!!!!!

Am I missing something?

The BitShares brand name is important, but each of these DACs needs both a front end retail presence (which might have a retail trade name) and a back end presence for investor/developer/booster participation. The back end should be named Bitshares Something, but a business might also have a retail site with some name that is different and catchy (isn't this what Music is doing?). That said, DNS may have more blurring than usual, because there should be lots of overlap. I think the primary retail audience for DNS is going to be nerds. And I mean that in a good way.

This is what I have assumed all along - all DACs should have a market name and a consumer friendly front-end name.

BitShares Lotto might be known to game players as the Hard Luck Casino
BitShares Music might be known to its customers as BitTunes
BitShares Toast might be known to its customers as Names-R-Us

It's up to the developers to pick a name that will attract their customers.

But on coinmarketcap, BTER, BTC38, etc. they all show up as a branded family and work together to attract attention of investors.

When you need to connect the two, then Follow My Vote powered by BitShares is an easy way to have your cake and eat it too.

I'm in those 20. :D

Stakeholder Proposals / 3.1 is looking good
« on: August 04, 2014, 03:53:20 am »
So I've been on version 3.1 and haven't missed a single block this whole weekend, after all my 2.x versions seemed to randomly miss a block every day or so.

Good job guys!

I never really understood why increasing fees was not allowed. That's why I chose to start with 100% because of the risk of not being able to increase it. I plan to lower my rate as the market dictates. I should be able to increase it for the same reason. And in either case if someone doesn't like my rate/service then they can vote me out.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: New website: Delegate.bid
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:18:44 pm »

Even if it is not currently visible in the client it will be very soon. I think it is not worth the effort.

Anyway you could point XXX.delegate.bid to the real delegate's site which might help.

Yes I would agree if there will be something like that in the client then an external site would be unnecessary. Unless it has some third party statistics or something, like what happypatty has done here: http://x.bitmeat.com/

And if a delegate can't figure out how to make their own website then that's just one more reason to find someone else to vote for.

Well , each delegate can have his own site. There is a field that you can use when registering. Why should anyone use delegate.bid instead of his own site?
For example why should I use angel.delegate.bid when I currently use angel.bitdelegate.org ?

What would be nice is one place where everyone could go look for all the delegates. And you could put a link to your site from there. Because otherwise how would anyone find angel.bitdelegate.org other than digging through this forum? Until there is a one stop shop where people can compare delegates, the masses will have much less motivation to make good votes.

Code: [Select]
emski (unlocked) >>> blockchain_get_account angel-delegate
Name: angel-delegate

Public Data:
"angel.bitdelegate.org"

See the public data? It is already integrated in the client.

That's great but what average user is going to type "blockchain_get_account ****" for every single delegate? I wouldn't even do that and I'm a power user and a delegate myself! If there was a page in the GUI that displayed the list of delegates and all there public data somewhere then that's a different story.

Are there no other delegates that want to be in this list? I thought this was a pretty great idea.

I voted for a bunch but unfortunately my percent of the share is less than 0.00002 so I can't make much difference. :/

You can have the same delegate running on two machines but you can't have them both producing blocks or it will create forks. And in future releases that will get you automatically fired I believe.
