I finally figured it out!

So first I needed to create a new wallet/account with a new password. Then I needed to import the private brainkey for my old account. When I did this it mentioned having no funds left to claim (part of my confusion). At this point my account was added to the list of accounts but before I was able to send any transactions I needed to unlock the wallet using the password I created for the new wallet/account I created in the first step. Voila! access to my funds!

Thanks @svk and @Kobalt13!

THANKS TO FLUXER555 I HAVE MY WALLET AND ACCOUNT BACK!

He helped me in exchange for a fee, and he was professional, kind, available, and knowledgeable.

Not sure if it will help anyone else, but my issue was not with my password, but it was with the wallet data itself. I never backed up the .bin file so that was gone. I made my wallet before "accounts" were a thing the way they are now, so all the info to allow me to log in was stored in Chrome's various data files and databases. If you are having trouble logging in and you made your account more than a few months ago, you may have the correct password but still need a .bin, a brainkey, or some other backup of the actual wallet (private keys) itself. Luckily I had versioned backups of these and was able to recover from them.

I now have the password, bin file, and a brain key backed up in multiple secure locations. Hopefully that will be enough to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thanks again everyone, and especially fluxer555 for the help.

I think this is my same problem! I have my private brain key but the password isn't working. How were you able to recover the account?

Technical Support / Help! Password not working on web wallet
« on: June 11, 2017, 01:25:53 pm »
So I haven't logged into my account for close to a year. Now I have used only a few variations of the same password for the last 5 years. So I try pretty much everything I can think of but everything says invalid password. I've tried this on the bitshares.org web wallet and also on open ledgers web wallet. But here is the weird thing, I ended up creating a brand new account through open ledger. So this time I know for a FACT what the password is. But when I go to log in using the Account method, it still says invalid password! What am I doing wrong?

Also alternative to trying to get the password right, I actually do have my public and private brainkey for my account. I tried importing that key into a new account and it said there were no funds that hadnt already been claimed   :(

I have 78000 BTS and I just wanted to get some of it out! Please help!

Well I somehow crashed my machine while I was rebuilding and I am totally hosed.  :( :-[
I appreciate being voted out actually. It will give me a chance to restart everything from scratch.  >:(

I'll vote you back in when you get up.

Well I don't know exactly what happened but my rig is officially dead.  :'( :'( :'(
It might not ever come back.  :-[ :(
Anyone interested in buying my delegate name for some BTSX? I actually have a .com and email address to go with it.  :o

General Discussion / Re: Delegates - Publish CYN at will...

I agree. I think we should wait for at least a little bit. And when we do publish CNY it should be at least daytime in china.

When I first opened 0.4.7 it seemed to get stuck. Then I closed and reopened and it got a little farther before it got stuck again. Eventually after closing and opening a few times it started to not get stuck and eventually it caught up to being in sync.

General Discussion / Re: many init delegates are down
« on: August 25, 2014, 01:43:04 pm »

they will probably know once s.o. gets up .. anyway .. doesn't hurt the network too much as there are 101 delegates in total  :)

BM already told them to fix the redundandy :)

i think every delegate should be monitored, my delegates are all under monitoring, SMS will be delivered to my phone once my delegate is down. i had been wake up 2 times by the SMS alert due to the client crashing  at midnight last weekend  . : (

If you don't think the init delegates are doing a good job we can also attempt to vote them out. It would require some campaigning though.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: 100%
« on: August 25, 2014, 12:44:16 pm »

I told dacsun that they need to provide more redundancy and divide up their delegates

Well someone needs to let them know that all the init delegates are missing blocks now.

Well it's going to take more than the two of us to make this happen.

Stakeholder Proposals / When do we start the price feeds?

I know we are waiting for most people to be upgraded but what is the plan? Wait for people to post they are ready? Or will I3 or DACSunlimited post something for us to all synchronize?

General Discussion / Upgraded to 0.4.6
« on: August 23, 2014, 01:33:35 pm »
hi bdnoble, I'm on it. Do you know how to do the git checkout 0.4.6 command? I do it in the bitsharesx folder and something happens but I don't know what I have to look for.

Every time I upgrade it looks basically like this (I'm also always running from another folder so I don't stop producing blocks):

Code: [Select]
rm -rf bitsharesx/
git clone https://github.com/dacsunlimited/bitsharesx.git
cd bitsharesx
git checkout 0.x.x
git submodule init
git submodule update
cmake .
make

Ah well, I'm building 0.4.7 as we speak anyway.
