General Discussion / Re: Prediction Market
« on: February 06, 2015, 11:26:24 pm »
@Stan thanks.

But the prediction market could be applied to anything, as long as there is interest right?

1. What party will win the elections?
2. Who will win AS Roma or Man United?
3. Will graffenwalder be asking stupid questions tomorow?

Not saying it's right or wrong. But it's still gambling (betting on an outcome)

However if a third party where to launch a unibet like site running on BTS with sportsbets etc..
It could be huge.

Side question:
How would the judges be elected/trusted?

Nice, hangout.

It was a bit difficult to follow though, maybe Chris should take a bigger role in these play hangouts.
Could you maybe post a short overview on how the delegate system on PLAY is different from that of BTS?

For your AGS you should have received a vested balance in BTS. Import the private keys of your AGS donation into the BTS client and issue the following console command:
Code: [Select]
wallet_check_sharedrop

I did but nothing happens. Console listed my address with these: "original_balance": 912674406 but my balance is the same.
To collect sharedrop
Quote
wallet_collect_vested_balances dritz3r
Replace dritz3r with your BTS username if it's not the same.

Side note: I'm currently having some problems collecting my DVS sharedrop, but this should be fixed in an upcoming update.

Just log into your wallet on the blockchain.info site.

Under the import/export tab, you can see your private keys.

Thinking about this some more, the MUSIC blockchain, should be available in about 2 months.

What is the benefit of trading the UIA?

Giving BTS some extra volume.

This might backfire. Maybe we won't get to many new users, just for the purpose of buying the UIA before the second snapshot. Which would mean there would probably be more supply than demand.....

Also the idea of a double snapshot could be very confusing, which might lead to problems before MUSIC launches.

Nice. But i think they should add bitusd:bitgold market too.
It's a bit tricky to look at the spotprice and calculate how much BTC that should be.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm curious to see if this brings more volume to BTS.

Also I guess once BTER finds out, they will make the snapshot liquid to, and probably hold of withdrawals and deposits untill the real launch. (PTS Snapshot).

General Discussion / Re: TIPS: Make some profit while holding BTS

...waiting for the time I can short BTS using bitUSD as a collateral :P

I still find that concept bizarre. I now appreciate the use cases of shorting BitAssets with other BitAssets as collateral, but shorting BTS is just strange to me. Not because the short seller would want to short BTS (I get that), but why would someone want to go long?

I can't imagine the BTS shorted into existence using BitUSD as collateral (which I will call BitBTS) is fungible with real BTS, since it can be liquidated during a black swan into less BTS than its nominal value and I also doubt it would have voting rights. (Actually the idea of black swan happening to a BitAsset held as collateral for a short position of another BitAsset makes my head spin.) So given the fact that I have the option to either purchase BTS or BitBTS, why would I ever choose BitBTS given its disadvantages unless it provided a decent amount of interest.

So, is that the idea? That those who want to short BTS using BitUSD need to provide a decent amount of interest in order to attract BTS longs into holding BitBTS rather than BTS itself?
I have a recording of BM saying that shorting BTS will certainly never be allowed in BitShares as it breaks the max supply of THE underlying token.
I would be surprised if he changed his mind .. However, I am fine with having the option to short ANY bitAsset with ANY bitAsset as collateral ..
Let's say someone shorted bitusd against BItBTC.
That would mean the bitusd is backed by 3 times it's BItBTC's worth.
BItBTC is backed by 3 times it's BTS worth.
Now you have bitusd from the BTS:bitusd market with 3xcollateral
And bitusd from the bitusd:BItBTC market with x9 collateral.

Not sure if this would cause a problem, but it's a strange concept.

nop .. artist coins do not exist in BTS .. what you can trade is nothing more
than a promised for a stake in the genesis block of bitshares MUSIC.

This is what I meant, according to Toast, it's not sure if Music has it's own blockchain
So, if it where just to use the BTS blockchain, and it couldn't back any asset, there's no real value to NOTE right?

If it's its own blockchain, there will be a snapshot from NOTE UIA to the real NOTEs after the NOTE UIA is frozen. If it doesn't have its own blockchain, we'll be building whatever smart contract stuff they need into BTS directly. That is still not decided and it's not that important in the short term, this just lets people trade the snapshot.

This has to be clarified before NOTE UIA is tradable

Everybody was happy to wait untill March.

Why would you want to liquidate NOTE, in a bearish market?
And also why do this, when there are so many unknowns about Bitshares Music?

This may lead people to think that NOTE will be on the BTS chain.
What would the value of NOTE be then?
is it possible to short an UIA to create an artist token?

yup will prepare site design asap !

metaexchange site very close to launching which will be a dedicated bitcoin->bitAsset gateway, it might be worth waiting for us given we're in-house, so to speak :)
Nice site, just tested it with 0.01BitBTC. Works like a charm, the whole process took about 1 minute.

Correction:
Looking at the time stamps in the BTS wallet and BTC wallet, it took 5 seconds. That's impressive

What does this mean for crowdfunding investors?
They get an extra 20% play now?

General Discussion / Re: Shapeshift API into Bitshares Wallet?
« on: January 31, 2015, 04:21:14 pm »
Yes it would be great.

The main concern would be the centralized factor.
Shapeshift just takes any coin and sells them on centralized exchanges.
So there's a double trust factor, both shapeshift and the exchanges they use for selling the coins.

On another side note, they might have just solved something another problem for us.
We've wanted shopping cart plugins, for a long time.
The shifty button does exactly that.
https://shapeshift.io/tools.html
However the same concern as above can be applied to this shopping cart.
