General Discussion / Re: BTSX 0.4.8-a Known Issues Status Update
« on: August 27, 2014, 02:17:38 pm »
When do we expect the next version to come out? I've never been able to get 0.4.8-a to work. I'm on Windows 7 SP1. I rescanned, after which the program crashes every time I try to open it. Then I took the little dialog box's advice to rebuild the database, and had that going overnight. I woke up in the morning to a crash report waiting for me to send.

Soon I'll see if I had any more luck on my work computer, but for now it looks like I'm on the sidelines until a less crashy version is released.

Have you tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode?

Added some technical information in the comments. If anyone sees a logical error please let me know.

dang I was about to make 3 more accounts. Also, is it possible to transfer an account to someone else?

You could export the private key for the account by going to the console and using wallet_dump_private_key <account_name>. Then import that into another wallet with wallet_import_private_key <private_key> <account> true true.

Of course this wouldn't work to transfer the account without the original owner having access as well.

They managed to get to me. Thank you for checking!

I will say this though, BitsharesX should contact BTER and help them clean up their withdrawal form and make it so people can send BTSX to unregistered accounts via the accounts key.

I also attempted (more times that I'd like to admit) to send BTSX to myself by using my public key from by BitsharesX account which does not work. You have to use the registered name but that isn't made entirely clear by the form. It will simply cancel your order after you've sent it and say something about the "memo" being too long.

I've got it now and next I'll be attempting to choose a delegate. Now once I hit the "thumbs up" on one am I finished or do I have to take an extra step to put my BTSX to work?

I believe your delegate votes aren't cast until you send a transaction. And agreed on BTER... or they could implement a BTSX registration helper like poloniex has.

Now on the main issue with bter's, freeworm.

First you (BTER) claims that you will honor the snapshot (For VOTE/DNS DACs, or as you call it PTS_S3 PTS_S  )

Using anything other than the official snapshot time August 21 11:59:59 pm UTC is unacceptable!

Doing anything else, is giving shares in those DACs to arbitrary selected people having arbitrary selected PTS position in BTER!

Doing the above is not honoring the PTS!

Please fix it - All accounts that had PTS at 11:59:59 pm UTC ,August 21 , should receive the corresponding amounts of shares in those DAC's!

+1 I contacted bter with request to resolve snapshot and got no response

Please refer to my correspondence with bter for resolving the matter: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=7060.msg100161#msg100161. I had to re-open my ticket and explain to them their flawed logic. They did make it right by me and I would assume they will with everyone else. It shouldn't have to be a manual "opt-in" process like this, though.

Do you need to uninstall the old client before updating or can you just install over the older version and your wallet will be intact?

The BitSharesX app data such as chain, wallet file, and other databases are stored in user specific app data folders, separate from the wallet application itself. I believe this is in the current user's AppData folder on Windows; on OS X it is in Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/BitShares X.

Thank you so much! I will send you the .5 back once I am all set up.

BitShares is a very interesting concept. I am a bit concerned about what the SEC may think of this all, but I am intrigued none the less.

Thanks again!

No problem. I don't think the SEC will come knocking anytime soon (maybe if / when crypto securities are distributed on the exchange but that is a long ways off).

Hey guys,

Just exploring Bitshares and I have the same problem. Can someone send a few to my account to get started?

my #s  BTSX6QEiygkT2WGL8pijHHofuq3nPHZLRtJRLguqHdukMkTt5PLbFG

Side note - this is a huge barrier to getting started that many would not be able to overcome...

Thanks,

EDIT - just to be clear, I bought some BTSX coins from Cryptsy and would like to "fund" my account so that it is registered. I wish this was a bit more user freindly.

Hey, welcome to the future. Give me your unregistered name and I will send you the BTSX you need. Also, for future reference to anyone reading this, please post requests for registration BTSX here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=6439.510;topicseen.

Nevermind, I just used your forum name to add you as an unregistered contact to my directory. I sent 0.5 BTSX to you.

You can safely update to 0.4.8a without losing your wallet. Updating the client doesn't overwrite your wallet files. The reason it stopped syncing is most likely due to a hard fork in one of the newer clients.

Got it thanks robrigo. However it seems they have jacked up the price :(

"Transaction Fee for registration: 0.5 BTSX "

Go into preferences and change your transaction fee to 0.1. I think that lower transaction fee == slower processing time, as those who pay more have priority or something. Can anyone confirm?

Glad to help. Would you please support our Thunderclap campaign in return? https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/15467-a-new-financial-world
Awesome that worked! The registration was instant. Appreciate your help, I will send you back the amount as soon as I withdraw some from my bter account.

Hello everyone. I seem to be having this same problem with not being able to withdraw from BTER because it requires a registered name, but I can't register the name because I can't get my BTSX into my account. If anyone can help me out here I will greatly appreciate it and pay you the amount back once I have access to my funds. Thank you

What's your unregistered account name as well?

Technical Support / Re: Crash report
« on: August 26, 2014, 05:11:12 pm »
I can't even open the load screen.  The application crashes before it opens -- Says "quit unexpectedly".  Can anyone help me with this?  I'm running OS X 10.6.8.  Might this be the problem?  I'm reluctant to upgrade to Mavericks because I hear it slows everything down considerably and my iMac is already about 4 years old.

It's probably the older OS you're running... but with that said, I'm running Mavericks and I can't get past the load screen so I don't know what to do at this point.

I had the same problem on Mavericks, but when I logged in the 2nd time it asked if I wanted to clean the databases, which fixed the issue. It seemed to happen after bumping the past few wallet releases up a version.
