Freebie / Updates From Xypher And A Push For Transparency
« on: April 03, 2016, 12:09:42 pm »
Hey guys,

I've been away from the community for the past 3'ish weeks. Admittedly, I've been dealing with a good case of founder depression.
Its not the case where you want to kill yourself, but rather the one where you have no clue of what you're feeling down for / end up in bed all day long.
It had nothing to do with my professional life. Am repeatedly reaching new peaks. In academia, I had my paper acknowledged and landed 3 job offers from leading VC firms in the region I am from. I could say it has something to do with my personal life - as its been pretty much non existent for a good 3'ish years now.
This post, however has nothing to do with any of that. Its a  list of updates and a push for transparency in regards to my work on

Kuro and hybridd have been consistently making excellent value additions to the system while ensuring there isn't a lack of leadership for the project in my absence and am grateful to them for the same. This is what has been going on with the project so far

-For those wondering, yes, we had a number of individuals here backing us with an internal fund raiser about 4 months back
-There will be no share-drop (as of now) - as we are yet to see the benefit of one, in capitalistic terms. I understand the socialist ideology that shared ownership leads to faster growth of the enterprise, but I am yet to see a good example of this happening.
-Our referral program is active right now. We give upto 30 percent of house income to individuals promoting the project.
-There is an on-going ICO. I'll be sharing details regarding it once I speak to our existing investors from Bitshares.
-Sports has been integrated into the project. It will be live over the coming week
-I am looking for a team of market-makers with interest in speculating on in-game items. The mark-ups on some of the items are upto 30 percent and there is a large amount of volatility
-We are soon to start our PR /Social media campaigns, so in case there is a community group where that happens - I would love to interact with the team.

I've been discussing a means to push for transparency with some of our current investors. I think it is important that I keep at least the business front of the project as open as possible. This is because, usually in the crypto-sphere, founders are left with an idea, fair amount of money and no set structure to follow. In the lack of external motivation, projects wind down to nothing and a lack of accountability leads for further destruction of share-holder value. Additionally, a large amount of time is wasted in terms of updating all stake holders of the project over time. I see myself having to either make threads or message parties in regards to the project. Often times this works against my own best interests as I would either lose out on the tiny bits and pieces of news that does need to be conveyed or focus heavily on things that dont matter to make stake holders feel progress is actually occurring. Being transparent further helps leverage the networks and skillsets of those following the project to garner growth for the enterprise.

A major malady I've seen amongst those working on the business front of such projects is a lack of accountability or results to show. When working on the product, it is easy to show a functional product and prove your work - but the same often does not apply to business functions such as networking, pitches or marketing. They could be tracked in terms of metrics, but accountability is still not proven without transparency.

Keeping these in mind, and my own desire to deliver the best for the project and its backers, I will be maintaining a public trello in regards to the project. You may feel free to criticize constructively, suggest alternative routes or add upon things I could do differently with the project. I will furthermore be using this thread as an official track record of business functions of the project. More than, solely ensuring transparency of the project, it will work as a good way for me to stay motivated in regards to work and a solid track record of the growth of the project.

The trello can be seen here :

Feel free to make enquiries/suggestions/changes as necessary, here.

Server issues from what I infer. That + kuro/hybridd have been making minor changes/fixes on the bugs.

*shameless plugging in*

We made for 1/100th of what you raised.
I look forward to competing with whatever you come out with.

We already have a marketplace interlinking cryptos (including, but not exclusive to Bts) - to in-game economies.
We just began marketing so our inventories are relatively low, but over the last week we've seen a 10x hike in user sessions (50 to 500) - and I intend to keep the growth going in the coming 2 weeks, so you should ideally see a substantial user base betting, trading and exchanging items on the platform in the months to come.

Experimenting with contextually placing gamebet in the limelight.
Had a good run for 2 USD worth investment today.

I'm pretty sure I have had one of the most active accounts in /r/BitShares, answering new users questions, marketing most all of the projects, blog post and happenings within the BitShares Community and I've been informed my account is now 'shadowbanned'. Which I had no clue was a thing until today. Is linking to BitShares websites, promoting Dan's blog post, fuzzy's Hangouts and relevant forum post forbidden?? I'm not a 'redditor' so I don't really understand what has transpired and am looking for some help before abandoning support and marketing of BitShares on reddit and focus my attention on non-censored avenues.

That's sad.
Would you mind helping me with marketing ?
I'd be glad to have you as mod on .

jonnybitcoin already has a bot forBitcoin if am not wrong - I don't see a reason why sharebits can't be developed the same way.
Social payments are one of the key things sharebits was built for to begin with

We already use discordapp for internal meetings but I think we have very little synergies with them with gamebet.
Please do share more if you find apt organization though.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of response from our side.
We've been pretty much working round the clock on and have a marketing campaign set for the weekend, so we've been pretty much excessively busy with it.
Fuzzy has been extremely helpful in letting me know of down times - I'd conveyed the message to @hybridd as soon as I came to know of it.
However, the issue is with the Bitshares RPC itself and that's Kuro's forte. He's been AFK for a while post a 36 hour work-athon on the product at, so as soon as he's on, he'll be able to fix whatever's wrong. I understand the downtimes are a little messy but its mostly due to updates / fork requirements from Bitshares - and the frequency with which it occurs.   Ideally as Kuro updates it - the fee too is lowereD (responding to an earlier post)

For.. those using this as an "opportunity"
Please tell me.. another product with live bug fixing / open responses to down times. Please do not misuse transparency as a means to spread malice, fear and drama.
There's already too much on my plate to focus on, and am sorry if our own enterprise is a focus at this point of time.

I'll ask Kuro to be on it - as soon as he's on, sorry for the downtime.

Breaking it down to a fashion that's intuitive for the average joe might not entirely be possible.
I'd like to hear why you believe there are advantages on doing this on the blockchain too. Again, both for the business and the end user.

P.s - Am trying to get differential opinions here. Not rebutting.

i thought gamebet didn't run on top of BitShares, it just uses it as a currency to bet like bitcoin.

How would you have a system like gamebet run on top of Bitshares ?
(I know of prediction markets, but am open to hearing more )

Note : Product discussions are highly preliminary - all decisions are taken by Kuro and Hybridd. I only present possbilities to them when we do hold discussions.

I really like this project.
However I can`t see anything why that is related to BitShares?
A ShapeShift Lens integration that obviously always has problems with BTS and BitUSD (not working) is not a BitShares integration.
I would really love to see you utilizing the BitShares blockchain with your Gold, Silver whatever Token.
And I would like to welcome and promote you as member of our ecosystem but without a clear relation to BTS I suggest you to post your updates anywhere but not in the BitShares General.

Very true.
While we hold Bitshares close to us, we are not looking to take excess exposure (to any community) in terms of complete integration.
Since main-stream markets are still within Bitcoin and Steam's in-game economy, it will be our sole focus in the months to come.
As much as am happy about the relationships nurtured here, certain sour experiences have taught me not to take excess dependence on any single community /technology on a project that has taken years to build.  @fav - please do move this to the freebie section. Would be much easier moderating / Updating things there.

P.s - I don't want you to take this in the wrong sense. Just that, given the limited resource we have right now - building the product and pushing for profitability is of more importance to me. It is very good to see Bitshares moving ahead (conf times, low fee) and there will definitely certain elements we'll integrate in the months to come. A crucial aspect am looking at is prediction markets.

For everyone else.  We will be opening to bets on

  • NFL
  • NBA
  • Soccer..err - The real football
  • NHL

.. Ideally later today :)
In case you want to see a certain sport added, please leave a message.

@Xypher, did you notice that transfer fees in BitShares have been drastically reduced just recently?

Yes I did and am in absolute respect of the community members that managed to pull it off.
Belonging to a third world economy myself, I cannot express how important this will be in pushing Bitshares forward as a solution for micro-payments and remittance.
Putting betting (product we're discussing of) in the context, it still plays its role in scenario's where individuals bet routinely.
I find it to be a very smart move and applaud the efforts of the committee that pushed it.
If anything, it instills hope in the leadership here and the possibility of building new businesses on top of it.

It would be good to see paid business development / marketing teams too on board because I personally believe, what BTS offers is truly not marketed right.
