General Discussion / Re: Poll about Bitshares-Bitcoin diversification.

So jealous of you 100% BTSXers right now.

I've gone from 50/50 to 60/40 as btc has tanked this week.

I cannot imagine how painful this would be to a 100% bitcoiner.

Bitcoin is absolutely brutal today.  I'm so glad I went to 50% btc, 50% btsx before this tanking.  Now its like 60/40 in favor of btsx, purely based on btc tanking so hard.

I disagree, the X is cool (and it means eXchange).

Bitshares is our ecosystem.  Bitshares X is our exchange DAC.

(Also, Bitshares is absolutely the BEST name to be the successor to bitcoin).

The bitcoin I have left makes me sad.  Though today it is dragging down every crypto.  Top 25 coins on coinmarketcap all red.

Maybe that crash this morning was the bottom and it can rally for a while.

If bitcoin is rising it is going to be a LOT easier for bitshares to do well.  Right now the whole crypto sector is severely depressed.

Or maybe bitcoin will just crash all the way to 0, and all an altcoin has to do to pass it is survive.   :o

Man, who is buying so many Nubits.  Its up to 1.05 lol.

Someone who doesn't realize how it works....

Clearly.  :D

LETS BUY DOLLARS for $1.05 lolol.

3443
Ah nice.

Now there are three cryptos in the top 20 that are up:  Ripple, Nubits...and BTSX. :)

Crypto tanking might also have something to do with the widely discussed USB-exploit that has been published with an onstage demo plus the tools on github so everybody in the world can do it, not just big guys like NSA and others who supposedly have been using this exploit for quite a while now.

A non-fixeable exploit of usb, might leave some people worried about the private keys they keep on those. It also makes airgap security kinda pointless. Maybe time for open hardware and openfirmware or some such solution.

On the other hand, if the price tanking was based on such a rational reason, that would mean a borderline blasphemous break with tradition of cryptomarkets.

I think the general crypto tanking is simply due to bitcoin hitting new recent lows.  Pretty much everything is getting sold.

Looking at the coinmarketcap top 20 right now is so frustrating.

Ripple up.
NuBits up.

Every other coin down.  Sigh...

Yes.. this is why we don't want to inflate and are actively working on alternatives.

Great!

The lack of inflation is definitely a key draw of BTSX.

Effectively, for every 1 BTSX burned we could create at most 1 BTSX for dilution purposes.

I like it. But the burn rate is probably too low for a useful dilution?

Yeah, burn rate is too low for it to be more than a piece of the needed funding.  But it might be able to be one source of funding, while other money comes from other sources.

My order of preference is:
1) Marketing campaign gets funded in some way, BTSX supply doesn't increase above 2B.
2) Marketing campaign gets funded, BTSX supply does increase above 2B.  (By a known fixed amount that is reasonable).
3) Marketing campaign doesnt get funded.

Bytemaster's ideas are very exciting and this should happen in some form, imo.  If we can avoid dilution that is preferable, if we cant then it is still worth doing.

Finally, at no point can the supply of BTSX exceed 2B shares. Do not inflate and do not mess with the burn.

Inflation in some form may be rationalized on a theoretical level, but the PR nightmare that may result would be catastrophic.

Sure, use some AGS funds to roll out a referral program. If timed right it will pay for itself.

But do not inflate.

This would be best.  Do everything we can to avoid putting the supply of BTSX over 2B shares.

And if you want it funded through dilution you better also put sensible hard caps into the client and ideally allow shareholders to control that cap through majority vote.

Yes, this is very important!
