General Discussion / Re: Incentivize SmartCoin collateralization
« on: January 18, 2017, 04:47:46 pm »
@kani I think you may underestimate the power of shorting to self under this proposition. Imagine a whale with 50M BTS. This rule goes into effect. The whale uses the entire amount to short BitCNY to himself. Now, he gets a huge chunk of the reward, and the amount that goes to "legit shorts" is greatly diluted.

When other whales do this as well, the net effect from this new feature on "legit shorts" would be almost zero.

I agree that witnesses should be paid more. They should be compensated well for the security they provide to the network.

I voted for a doubling (3 BTS), because that's already a huge change, and we can always change it again in the future.

I also oppose ideas to distribute fees for various purposes. They are already burned (necessary for profitability) and paid to referrals (a useful purpose). I think that adding more to this channel does not create more value, only more complexity.

That, and the maintenance for any problems that might arise. I've used Discourse before, and been pleased with it.

Looks like the migration might be pretty hairy, though.

Discourse very good. All those annoying +5% becomes "like" and then no clutter.  +5%

Is there a cost for the software itself?

Here's a problem:

1) I have some BTS
2) I short some BitUSD
3) I send it to my other account that I also control

Now my net position is the same, but I get a slice of the dividend. This means that everyone with BTS would want to short themselves whatever asset(s) had the most payout, diluting them significantly.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker Proposal] New BitShares Core Dev
« on: January 12, 2017, 07:04:46 pm »
Beside subsidized request, kencode has offered us his reputation. In my opinion and with all respect to others, it is worth more.

It's funny, because KenCode had quite a poor reputation here a couple years ago. He was accused of scamming Floridans with a fraudulent gun school. There was an entire website with details about it. He was also accused of running a solar panel scam in 2007, where he never shipped the panels to buyers. More details can be found through a simple web search.

It's remarkable how that has changed. Thanks for sticking around, @kenCode!

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: [Worker Proposal] Chronos Crypto Videos #2
« on: January 12, 2017, 06:46:55 pm »
Of course! You may certainly post the videos in the Bitshares Playlist on the official Bitshares channel. These videos are owned by the Bitshares community, through this worker proposal. Just let me know if you need me to provide the original .mp4 file format.

If we get the voting support of @bitcrab, we can start production again. My top priority is shorts and margin calls for smartcoins like BitCNY.

at $0.0033 per BTS, the price is about 10% higher than all-time lows of $0.003, from what I can tell. If it drops below that, I think it will be in new (bad) territory.

I called the bottom already. He did not pick up the phone.

ref system as it is now is useless and not profitable to market.
I have to agree with this.  ;)

General Discussion / Re: [hangout feedback] Worker proposal idea
« on: January 11, 2017, 05:20:16 pm »
From a high-level view, this is simply a transfer of power from a decentralized group (all BTS holders) to a more centralized group, which I'm not sure would be popular in practice. People don't usually vote to give away their own power.

Are you sure that BTS proxies would be in favor of a smaller, more centralized team of managers, subjecting funds to a risk of fraud/misuse/theft?  What benefit would they receive for this?

I do not like the worker proposal advice, as it depends on trustee, not decentralized enough.
I agree on this point. Though it's a bit off-topic, I'm also wary, in general, of workers that short BitUSD to pay out. It creates a complexity that may be difficult to unwind in the future.

General Discussion / Re: Bots
« on: January 08, 2017, 05:52:24 pm »
Um, bots don't make assets worthless. If the price goes to 0, maybe it's a worthless asset anyway, bots or not.

Study an asset carefully before you buy it, to see what underlying value it may have.

good luck with this suggestion
I guess that's why I don't own any UIAs. lol

You can't tell a bot from a human, except by its trading pattern, and sometimes the bot owner puts "bot" in the account name by choice.
