Such posts are there to learn from.

we don't want to be the "the greedy company" that commercialized the non professional Bitcoin community / grass roots effort (such a sentiment of course woud be entirely irrational since everything is based on free trade but nevertheless influential):
... maybe avoid peaks of confidence like " use our edge to suck all of the wealth listed in coinmarketcap"

Gamey; shoot me a pm with your email. Check it out, it can't hurt. The true potential of a grass roots marketing effort needs to be more organized, I can't see how we would do it in the forum alone, or least it would be less effective.

A few months back I created an Asana Project for what we called "Team Viral" at the time.

Unfortunately, we sort of lost steam, but it does already exist and there about 8 of us already joined. We had  begun to start organizing some more viral marketing oriented stuff, and the work is Asana still.

Probably good to continue with it. If anyone wants to join, just send me a pm with your email address.

General Discussion / Re: Marketing Proposal - Our Unfair Advantage

Wow Clains you took the words out of my mouth....

I agree with some of the points that Geneko is making, but unfortunately criticism of the marketing plan, whatever that may be, is not really fostered on this forum in a productive way.

It is hard to understand as Bytemaster with his proven track record and consistently well thought out intentions and ideas is still ripped apart for most of his technical suggestions, however, in stark contrast, the marketing strategy (which unless I have missed something that is simply "market to the masses") is not openly criticized at all and not improved upon collectively, as is consistently suggested to "have faith". But why?  Why do we have one standard of openness and consensus for the technology and yet another, which seem to be quite the opposite for the marketing? Traditionally companies work in reverse where technology secrets are keep closed, but the marketing efforts are more transparent where the strategy, collateral, and analysis are clear and obviously adhering to a broader brand strategy and execution.

This is not meant to be an attack on anyone personally. I just have not seen anything to make me think that the marketing will match the technology innovation in Bitshares. If I am missing something I would love to be enlightened. These posts like this should be taken very seriously, and I think it is a shame that instead of generating honest and objective critique of the marketing plan the OP is basically being told to have faith.

General Discussion / Re: Does BitUSD pull marketcap from BitsharesX?
« on: August 30, 2014, 09:11:11 pm »
Purchasing BitUSD adds value to BTSX because it takes 2x the value of the USD out of circulation and ties it up in collateral.

Interesting. On http://coinmarketcap.com/ there is a view of Marketcap by Available Supply or Total Supply, but they give the same number as a result. Is that an error on their end?

I don't see any explication for the metrics or formula for calculation. Is there a better source?

I am confused as to how marketing efforts are supposed to be evaluated by market cap. The relationship is simply corollary. I can not think of how this could be an effective measure of the success of a marketing campaign longterm, nor how you would be able create an efficient contractual relationship between the two parties.

Is there a precedent for this kind of arrangement? Has there been a Fortune 500 company that contracts its marketing companies or pays its marketing department based on fluctuations in its market cap? If so, I would love to see the data on it. If I were a marketing company I would love this arrangement as I could pick the hottest companies as clients, sign a deal, do no real work and just hope that the market effect allows the market cap to increase, and then enjoy success. I would sign as many deals as possible. I am absolutely not suggesting that this happening, but pointing it out as a an obvious potential flaw in this type of structure.

This potential "flaw" is not lost on us and has been addressed.  There are specific marketing objectives that are being put into place that must be executed.  Primary focus is to bring money into the system.  The product they are selling is BitUSD / Paypal...  they bring customers stock price goes up.  Very direct relationship for most companies.    Obviously, signing a deal that doesn't require specific actions doesn't make sense.   Paying bonuses based upon performance does.

I made the comment to promote the discussion on the specific strategy as to how the performance is measured and rewarded. I think if the ideology and mechanics of pay for performance for DAC marketing is fleshed out and opened up then other able marketers can partake.

Does this mean that BTS/I3 are going to be open to funding new and different marketing entities or efforts?

Is there any strategy or breakdown on marketing efforts, results and/or analytics?  Any type of github like organization dedicated to the marketing efforts that have been produced so far and what the future goals are?

Hasn't anyone within Bitshares or I3 made a relationship with anyone from Bitcoin Magazine? This article is horrible.
