General Discussion / Re: Many "Create Proposal"
« on: October 03, 2019, 03:59:06 pm »
Thanks!
These builds are never in the link in the UI... So I never think of them, and so probably everyone else... Either update the official website, or notify the version on the official, but don't notify for the version on Github while pointing at the version on the website.... Seems redundant.

So I can see I got the latest proposal last week, so I'm assuming there is no drawbacks of exploiting that particular threat yet... Sucks...

Well, that is certainly scary.. For everyone... Must have worked a bunch of times on some poor souls...
Any info on how this works? It's possible that an unrelated account propose to have added permission onto another account? That sucks and it should be ONLY the other way around... Parent accounts must be able to allow child accounts in, but child accounts should not be able to ask parent accounts to control them...

Client is updated. Says Bitshares.190424 and that an update is available, but it always says that even though I have the latest, so that is annoying. Wondering why...

Having that said, the Create Proposals are still visible in my Activity, don't see a difference with the new client. I never caught a proposal when it was still active, so that must be why.

Beside that, what can we do about those scum accounts? Support BSIP #154? BSIP #2658?

Thanks again!

Lol! Ok, thanks!
That is a nice way to waste a bunch of BTS. Good for them!

So what are they trying to achieve? Update my account data how?

« on: October 03, 2019, 02:40:21 am »
Hello,

So I checked my Activity tracks, and I can see many Create Proposal... I'm sure I'm not the only one since they are coming from OpenLedger accounts such as: openledger-safety, openledger-settings, openledger-delegate, openledger-security and openledger.com-account... Probably fake accounts?

The proposals are something I've never really understood in BitShares... What are they? Why are they targeting my account? They say "Update account data for", so what is there to upgrade?

I haven't been active in the past 6 months, so I'm wondering if I missed something important or if this is just another obscure scam (like the shitcoins everybody was getting at some point...)

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you!

General Discussion / Re: When to expect the bitUSD revival?
« on: December 09, 2018, 04:25:26 am »
Thank you for your replies.
I (now) understand that the bitUSD is not as stable as I believed. You know, reading on when I first started to be interested in Bitshares (and Protoshares long ago), I came to believe that bitUSD was a strong thing that would never become some sort of tether coin... Wording like the ones found here : https://steemit.com/bitshares/@xeroc/what-makes-the-bitusd-than-nubits always made me believe it could not break. Obviously, I would have never suspected Bitshares to go below 0.10$USD back then, and since I had never been interested by the margin trading, I never knew about the GS price. I thought this would not affect me much. Now I know. I didn't loose much, but then again I could not benefit from the plunge from .05 to 0.3, for which I was too well prepared.
Now looking at bitCNY, with a GS at 0.261429, I'm getting better to understand what could be the outcome of a black swan... CNY has been stragely holding at 0.261430... (Feed manipulation?) When it moved 0.264, where it stayed fixed for a bit, I panicked a bit seeing it plummet straight to 0.261430, 0.00001% away from GS... Hey, now its going back up... That was a good f*** up for me, but nothing to panick about.

Thanks again for your time!

Cheers

Thanks a lot for your well written answer.
Clockwork, I've seen that link already, and for the unsavvy, this is for the most part, gibberish.
Biophil, thanks for your insight, looking forward to see it revived.
Pc, since I've never played with margin trading, I thought I was doing the right thing by holding at the time of the GS. Oh well. Live and learn.

General Discussion / When to expect the bitUSD revival?
« on: December 06, 2018, 02:13:40 pm »
Hello,

So... bitUSD/BTS is nearly 20% over feed price because nobody is willing to trade. At first, that was OK, waiting patiently for it to fall to a reasonable price to buy BTS or BTC again, but now I'm starting to realize that I'm probably screwed with bitUSD, for which I might not be able to get out without loosing quite a %...
I read everywhere that bitUSD needs to be revived and wait for the margin trading to open again. So I have the following questions:

-How/when will bitUSD be revived? What does it take? Just the trust of people who lost a lot because of the GS?
-If we are below the GS price, will it be revived only when the price goes back up above that same GS price or can the new GS price be lowered?
-Will it be revived only when the margin trading opens up again? What are the conditions for that?
-Will I get back my worth of bitUSD only when the price will go back above GS price? Am I understanding this right? Because if so and the price keeps falling, bitUSD holders are screwed, no?
-Also, what does it mean when a bitasset stops being pegged?

Thanks for your time!

Cheers,

Technical Support / Market Fees not updating in RC1?
« on: December 04, 2018, 05:47:34 pm »
Hello,

I'm using the Bitshares UI version 181121-rc1 and I'm wondering why the market fees are not updating as I type in values when placing an order.
For instance, selling BTS in the BTS/BitUSD market should have 0.1% market fee, but it remains 0.

Can anyone let me know if the Market fee is taken even though not displayed?

Also, please fix this typo in the "Deposit USD" button:

Thanks,

General Discussion / Re: New Emergency Fix for All Nodes
« on: November 27, 2018, 01:40:48 pm »
I saw this post at the bottom of that thread. It should have been right up there as its own red flashing thread, no? This was a pretty important bug and everything got broken for a while. When I took notice of it and upgraded my node, the time that it took to finish re-reading the chain, several hours had past.

Anyways, the storm has pass and it seems all good now. All the witnesses are up again, which is a good thing. The activity on the DEX is quite low and I'm wondering why. Impossible that we've lost all these players just because of a 12h delay.

Having that said, the quick fix and the quick work around was impressive!
Good work all!

Hello,

Sorry to bother you directly, but it looks like you understand the screwup with bitUSD black swan and I was wondering if you could explain the consequences of forcing millions of bitUSD to be converted to BTS. Will people freak out and loose confidence in BTS? I currently have bitUSD, should I be concerned that their value drop under 1$ USD? Why do you think the BTS value, which was for a long time about 1% below price feed, is currently higher by 10%? Scared people should be feeling BTS, but it looks like they flee bitUSD...
Lastly, does this emergency node hotfix for the stalled blockchain be destroying the confidence in BTS and does it have anything to do with the black swan or is it just a coincidence? Will the discussions in that "small group" move the market intentionnaly in ways that we should be aware?

Thanks for you patience and time for helping us out!
Cheers,

Why did I have to search for this? Why isn't it here on the forum?

There is an emergency release to fix a stuck chain.
All nodes must upgrade.

Technical Support / New RC1 - Market Depth Chart is gone?
« on: November 15, 2018, 03:12:13 pm »
Hello,

Why is the Market Depth chart gone from the right bottom panel? Is the only way to see it in the Personalize -> Chart Options -> Type -> Market Depth? Well, that is quite far... I like the two being visible at all times.

Because I only show 3-4 stared markets in the right panel, then I have this huge unused blank space where the Graph used to be. Now its empty and I'm missing it...

Let me know if I'm missing something.

Thanks,

Technical Support / Testnet
« on: April 02, 2018, 02:10:44 pm »
Hello,

How would you remove a witness from the testnet? I don't see any commands in the CLI to cancel, remove, or update a witness in order to cancel it.

Thanks,

15
I have setup the pricefeed using xeroc's tool. Wondering if this tool is supposed to work when the witness is not active as I cannot see any price feed activity in my accounts. Obviously, you do not want random users publishing price feeds, but then again, that means it cannot be tested prior to having an active witness.

I've been running the new witness on the testnet and noticed it missed a block today. As I'm looking in the logs, I'm trying to understand why it did so. Trying to find it back, what error should it show in the log? Is it the error "Pushing block to fork database that failed to link"?

What is the most common reason for a block to be missed? Too long to verify all the transactions? In which case it is "normal" to miss a block once in a while? The witness server is fully dedicated to do only block generation, so why would it miss?

Thanks for all your info!

Cheers
