If you think doing math in public is risky, try doing engineering in public!

 :)

...especially civil engineering.  If it moves, run!

"to route around the encryption"?

South Park reference.

It's a jab at technobabble.

Yeah ignore those examples, they make it sound like an iou trading platform a la mastercoin.

That is how some issuers are likely to use BitShares Me. Ignoring this won't make it go away.

BitGold is just an asset on the chain that can be traded for whatever the market thinks 1 BitGold is worth in terms of the underlying asset (XTS in this case). Read the whitepaper on the main site, it should clarify.

Right, but I've had this discussion with non-BitShares people already who respond with something like, "Wait a second. I don't get it. There's no gold in BitGold? ...?  <blink />... No, look. You see, what you need is..." followed by a description of a warehouse receipt/IOU.

Someone, somewhere is going to issue IOUs for USD, EUR, XAU, etc., and tout them as 'better' than Bit[USD | EUR | XAU], because they're backed.

Use Longitude/Latitude, instead of street addresses?

This raises the opposite concern. If the idea of TLD were dispensed with, how would the browser resolve BitShares DNS com, org, uk, de, ru, etc., versus their conventional counterparts?

As long as no one starts posting 'BitShares Nukem Forever' jabs.

i like the concept but I don't understand how this will be integrated in the existing DNS infrastructure. All existing ISP's would have to switch? Or is this a whole different sector?

Initially, you'll need to install a browser plugin that knows how to resolve the domain name.

There is only one TLD, not yet decided. I want ".web". So you will register a domain "hackfisher" and the user will access it with "hackfisher.web", the same way they go to "google.com".

Is that necessary?  Can the domain name not be simply something like http://bob, http://toast, etc.?

You're right. Conspiratorial attitude definitely has its place. However, with regard to the question of whether other actors in this space are deliberately trying to put Invictus in the shadow, I think there are so many other factors in play that a potential conspiracy is a tiny footnote in the overall story of how Invictus has positioned itself.

That's what they want you to think.    ;)

More seriously, though, buzz is nice, but profit is better. The only thing that ultimately matters is whether the project enables participants to become wealthy. (And, if that makes them feel guilty, they can give their money away to charity.)

I remember when BeOS was all the rage, and Jean-Louis Gassée was IT's rockstar CEO answer to John Delorean. I even set up a webhosting service on my BeBox, in anticipation of it becoming the new Apple operating system. Alas, buzz was not enough.

Similarly, calling bytemaster out to explain himself takes his head out of the groove and delays the release even further.

Sorry for sounding uneducated, but I'm new to this type of trading. What's preventing the chosen price-standard to start leading a life on it's own? How will bitgold for example track gold, without becoming goxgold? Or will the prospect of losing ones collateral be enough of a safeguard for people not getting a raw deal?

BitGoxGold, BitKitcoGold, BitBob'sMattressGold, etc. would all be different assets that should reflect market participants' trust in Gox, Kitco, Bob, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing how BitARS, BitBYR, BitCNY, BitCUC, BitCUP, BitVEF, etc. track the unofficial rates. (See ISO 4217 currency codes)

In addition to animations of stock marketing pages, if enough here are interested we could crowdsource some skits for unimercio to animate.

Maybe a riff on Zombo.com?

If any lurkers are thinking of focusing full-time on BitShares projects, don't rule out South Florida as a relocation option.

Excellent point, but I'm sure some hairdressers, landscapers, and pool cleaners could surprise us regarding regulations with which their businesses must comply.

The only major market that I am aware of that operates under conditions of quasi-laissez faire is the global foreign exchange market. Granted, central bankers are very big players, but they do not mandate exchange rates.  The rest of us have someone to answer to, some much more than others.

It is going to be very interesting to see where this crazy crypto-bitshares-coin/DAC thing leads us, now that Byzantine generals know how to zoom in and enhance to route around the encryption.
