Thanks for starting this list!  We were just talking about needing a 'hype list' for marketing and meetups. :)

When you're ready with the more descriptive summary, or if you want some co-creators, (google docs?) it would be a super helpful resource for meetup organizers and others working on investment and promotions at the moment.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: BitShares Worldwide - Meetup.com

P.S.: I'm was thinking more and more about BitShares embassies the last week! Also a idea we should more promote IMO!
I'm thinking of embassy delegates etc.. but maybe i'm thinking in wrong direction ... but due this we can get more small teams all over the world on board!

Could you elaborate on what you think of when you say 'BitShares embassies'?
I'm very intrigued by what this conjures up in my imagination.  I'd love to hear more thoughts on this.  What form might it take?  A dedicated physical location like the Bitcoin Embassy in Argentina?  I would love to establish something of that nature here in Minneapolis for sure.  Something worth considering.

General Discussion / Re: Dev Voice Hangout on Mumble Fridays @ 10am EST

Totally appreciate all fuzzy's hard work so far and will be voting for him once I finally get round to setting up my new machine with the 0.5 client. That said the most recent mumble session appears to have been edited in what appeared to be a rather odd and jarring way. I could be wrong but it felt like there were bit's that someone had decided to cut out because they didn't like what was being said:

Example from edited mumble session 21/01/2015. At 23.35 we hear faddat get cut off and then fade in to him saying out of context:

faddat: be forked
fuzzy: what do you mean by that
faddat: okay, because there's very little contact....
[.....]
faddat: erm, no they don't do that Riverhead, although you could almost call it that the censorship is so pervasive now.

I thought the above example was slightly ironic given that faddat was talking about censorship.

I know often there's a link posted early to the full unedited version of the Mumble sessions, but it's a bit of a pain to track it down each week. Please can fuzzy post the unedited version of the Mumble session to SoundCloud every week alongside the edited version? Would be most appreciated if this could be added as part of delegate duties. I for one would rather trawl through all the pauses, clicks and pops and still get to hear what everyone actually says. Really felt like I was missing important points the way the last session was edited.

Thanks in advance and keep up the stellar work.

If I'm not mistaken it's simply because some people type in their questions, or thoughts... as Riverhead most likely did here.
I can't recall exactly.  But the remedy for this is perhaps to encourage all participants to read aloud anything non-verbal they might be responding to.

As long as we're going to have a State, as such, it may as well be made obsolete through exposure to more adaptive models.

Independent labs which are third-party verified to ensure safety and quality of all known substances should likely exist, but their 'recommendations' should be implemented on a voluntary basis.

It's a good, and grand idea luckybit.

but pls no trello ... ^^

i would advise to use slack or asana.. just said

What are big downsides of trello to asana or slack?  We're back to the project management phase and Rgcrypto has used trello.  I've never used any of this much so I can't begin to have an opinion.

I don't know the relative merits of those systems either, but I just wanted to throw another idea out there for consideration.
has anyone looked into ideascale ... if we can use the free version it seems promising.

This whole forum is about suggestions. Saying things should be done faster is the type of discussion that frankly has little value.  You need to find something and do it !

Yes.

We need something like http://ideascale.com/, or maybe we should actually use ideascale...  I'm not sure if the free version would be sufficient, but it's pretty fly and functionally pretty much what we need.

The most supported ideas would rise to the top and get claimed, and accomplished by whatever team or individual was able to.
Ideas which did not receive support would wither away due to inaction or obscurity.

@gamey - how is trello looking?

A BitShares org chart would be helpful so we can avoid duplicating efforts and understand the initiatives which are being worked on by the many different parties involved.

Forums are not really the best platform for coordinating action.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares African Initiative - a proposal part 1
« on: February 07, 2015, 09:52:54 pm »

Intellectually elite white males, those who make up most of the current knowledge and usage demographic of blockchain technology, are not going to be able to mainstream it to their relatives in the foreseeable future. Visa/mastercard and Chase bank works for them. And there is no billion dollar war chest to win them over with promotion. And before you call up Roger Ver and his cohorts, please don't. All the “bitcoin millionaire” money is just a puddle compared to the oceans of cash the incumbents can borrow from their friends in the banking industry.

But there is another way to do it. A way for Bitshares in particular to gain a worldwide marketing/usage foothold without going up against the incumbents directly. There are three revolutions going on in the world that are ripe for Bitasset usage and growth:

1. the massive African adoption of digital currency, which many Bitcoin news outlets have reported on, like Mpesa that is spreading all over the continent:

http://voices.nationalgeographic.com/2012/07/04/the-invisible-bank-how-kenya-has-beaten-the-world-in-mobile-money/

2. The Caribbean Bitcoin movements:
http://cointelegraph.com/news/112391/caribbean-island-becomes-bitcoin-nation-interview-with-sarah-blincoe-project-manager

3. The new African American economic initiatives:

http://negusvu.com/2015/01/16/the-well-anticipated-black-film-7am-hits-the-theaters-this-mlk-weekend/

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/08/28/these-seven-charts-show-the-black-white-economic-gap-hasnt-budged-in-50-years/

African Americans and Africans worldwide do not have stocks, bonds or much of any type of investments. So the interest that banks used to hand over were precious beyond compare. I have spoken to my African friends and told them about Bitshares, especially Bitassets, and watched their eyes light up as they ask how to sign up. The handwriting on the wall, the elephant in the room, is that people of African descent are the most viable growth market for Bitshares.  As a member of this group with contacts worldwide, I have a plan to get widespread Bitshares/Bitasset usage, knowledge and trust. How?  By giving the people what they want and are not getting -quality entertainment.

The Bitshares African Initiative

Greetings and welcome, I for one think you are spot on!  In addition to the 'three revolutions' you cite, there are indeed communities across the globe engaged in similar revolutions, and our ability to connect with these diverse communities will be a huge determining factor in our success.  Unity is the key.  This technology transcends isms and demographics, and i believe it can unite the whole human family.

I look forward to learning more.

Delegates are inspired entrepreneurs that have the 'can-do' spirit to make things happen.

We are magical beings that can turn nothing into something.

A guy seeking a job in marketing willing to accept that kind of rate of pay is more than likely going to be really ineffective.

I see the delegates work tend to be complimentary and not overlapping. Some are not even really considered marketing, but their activities accomplish it. They are largely operating on the hope, belief, and prayer that BTS market cap goes up and their delegate stake increases in value. That is enough to motivate anybody to want to see BTS better perform. The motivational dynamic in my estimation is perfect.

There is enough of us to keep an eye on things.. look what happened just last week. One wasn't cutting it and they got the boot. If there are others it will show, and the remaining cream will rise to the top.

My 2.9 cents anyways.

^ This is the best thing I've read all day.

I support marketing or just plain old developer hangouts, for sure.
In fact we still have yet to schedule ours Fuzz... it was a crazy month, but we're happy to get something on the calendar.

Personally I'm really impressed with the way the marketing crew is self organizing.  I see natural roles developing, and I think we're all mature enough to call bullshit when we see it.  There's a lot happening at nullstreet, and things are heating up in a really good way.

Speaking from personal experience the whole process of running for a delegate spot has been a massive undertaking, and absolutely no personal gain of any kind to show for it yet. Quite the opposite.

Our team has about 360 hours and $1200+ dollars invested, on top of delegate registration fees of around 120,000 bts, just now about 75% recovered from our first delegate's accumulated pay.  Not to mention we haven't been able to really seek professional legal council (yet another reason to support Fuzz) and we haven't taken care of a good many business expenses associated with doing this right.

How many other '100% paid' delegates are in a similar position thus far?

I am all for transparency, i love it, but If I had one BitSilver for every frustrated rant calling for delegate accountability of system in which even 100% paid delegates are still working for free... with lion hearted effing magic abilities of literally turning 'nothing into something'.... i would put them all in a fund to counteract the cynical by reminding them to be grateful for all the gifts they have received in life, just to be here, having this conversation.

Let's turn this around.  There is critical thinking, which is awesome... and there is toxic, neurotic, infectious scarcity complex... which is self defeating.

Did you ever have a swear jar at home?  Where you had to put a quarter in the jar if you dropped the f-bomb?
We should institute the 'gripe jar'... i have no idea how that would work, but damn i'd love to see it.

How about this.  Every time someone gripes about how awful things are, delegate or not, will ask them what they have been doing to help this project succeed?  How many people did they turn on to BitShares in the past month?  How much liquidity did they provide?  How many creative ideas have they shared?  How many solutions have they offered?  How many times did they say 'good job', or, I really appreciate all you have done to advance the cause.  If they can't say anything useful, then they can tip the gripe jar 1 BitSilver to be used for something constructive.

Quote
“Cecil Graham: What is a cynic?
Lord Darlington: A man who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.
Cecil Graham: And a sentimentalist, my dear Darlington, is a man who sees an absurd value in everything and doesn’t know the market price of any single thing.”

Can we land somewhere in the middle?  Can we recognize the great strides which have been made instead of sulking in the shadows of 'what might have been?', and chasing the phantoms of 'what are we losing?'

Oh, one more thing... you can leave your 'dick metaphors' at the door.
We don't need to read that crap... get creative at least for satoshi's sake.

I had to get that out of my system before it turned into resentment.  Some comments in this thread were just the straw that broke the narwhal's back, and that's hard to do!  Little mopey gripey sulk all over this forum.

Praise to those who contribute by other means!

peace, b
