It wasn't producing what they expected. Any concerns here?

General Discussion / Re: Best Selling Option
« on: September 24, 2015, 11:15:01 pm »
Keep it 101. Nobody outside Bitcoin and the altcoins gives two shits about bitshares. Those who do give a shit about the possibility of bitshares care very much about decentralization and distribution. Do not write your core audience and users off as not the people you are marketing to. There is no secret user base waiting for bitshares graphene to be released outside of the cryptocurrency community. You alienate them, bitshares will never be anything more than what it is now. Then again, you already own the code. So you will forever be compared to centralized solutions in some way or another.

It's there now. Don't worry it still crashes on first loading. Trying again. ???

I do not understand how things work in your world. Do you expect it to stop crashing after simply adding a function that exports the keys in a new format?

Well, in order to get the keys you got to be able to get the keys.

General Discussion / Re: Bitshares price discussion

That doesnt matter anymore because 2.0 fixes it.

But that's not a realistic approach IMHO Ander.

2.0 doesn't exist, outside of a testnet. 2.0 has yet to do what it promises to do, even on a testnet.

That day may come and I hope it does and I anticipate it will, but it's not a reality ... yet.

I'm just not the kind of person to shove all-in with a gutshot straight draw, especially after watching many others get burned, unless it's a bluff. ;)

Just please Tuck get back in lower than you bought. I dont want to see you missing the rise and then joining newmine and blazin8888 by making FUD memes.
When have I ever made a FUD meme? Please show me.

Tuck is right. This thing is going back down. Probably 1800 satoshi range. Then post Oct d- day, whatever rise in BTS  you MAY get, it will be followed by hard sells for everyone that has been locked in BTS because of a shitty client. 2.0 does fix the fact that there are people who have been stuck and wanting to get out. Prepare for sells out of frustration and selling post "ex" date.

Stakeholder Proposals / Re: Cpt. liondani, let's lower the payrate
« on: September 23, 2015, 12:17:29 am »
If you post one more time in General Discussion what you KNOW DAMN WELL belongs in Delegate Proposals........

I am going to remove my vote from you.

Wow... Life is to short to get this worked up over someone posting in the wrong forum category.

Some "tough love" from @onceuponatime

I have a history of having donated bitcoin for Martin to print fliers to distribute and then him using the donation to fund his lifestyle instead of printing  said fliers. This current spamming of the forum in what is ostensibly a personal message to liondani is close to the final straw for me. (Incidentally, I had to go to the trouble of acquiring bitcoin rather than sending him bitshares. As a street person without other resources to call upon,  sending bitshares was not convenient for him. Does this not in itself indicate that his target market and modus operandi were, shall we say, premature?).

If I withdraw my vote from his delegate, which I should probably have done but did not when he misappropriated the funds I sent to him, he will notice.

I have admired his enthusiasm and tried to support his efforts since I too have spent time living on the streets and know that it can be depressing and seem hopeless. I tried to encourage and guide him. Had he taken up my suggestion that he attend a Meetup session in Munich, in order to learn how to hold Meetups, I was going to fund out of my own pocket a trip to Athens for him to organize Meetups there. I had already funded, out of my own pocket, the translation of BitShares101 into Greek. Martin decided that a Meetup in Munich was not to his liking or not worth his effort and that his current methods were his thing. How's that working out?

I am not  convinced that his current methods have added any value and are not, in fact, counterproductive to both himself and BitShares.

He may or may not be a good ambassador to the street people of Amsterdam. But even if he convinced 100% of them that BitShares is the next great thing - how will that help them or BitShares?  Conversely, is he currently a good representative of our project to realistic potential investors and users? I would be quite willing to bet that the 10 or so people that I have introduced to BitShares have invested far more into our project than the hundreds that Martin has.

Wow!
Coming from onceuponatime...these are strong feelings, man. If it was me feeling that...the mods will leave everything and be just busy deleting my posts for days.

it's not about going to other crypto subs, they hate every other coin that's not theirs to the bones. it's about booking cheap ads on reddit and catch some not-so-crypto people. BitCurr is our door to get some attention from normal people

Exactly.

This ad got a lot of people over to r /bitcoin over 2-3years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/18smyy/ideas_for_rbitcoin_ads/c8hmtr2?context=3

The ratio of a coin's popularity on reddit compared to its overall userbase is directly proportional to how simple the coin is.

For example: Dogecoin is breaindead simple.  It does nothing, and its about pictures of dogs.  Reddit loves it.

Dogecoin is popular because of changetip not because it is brain dead simple.

Bitshares is way too complicated and over the heads of almost everyone, most especially random people on reddit.  Thus we have no traciton there.

The future of Bitshares is not to appeal to mass adoption, I think,  No typical man on the street is ever going to get their head around market pegged assets, shorting, collateral, smart contracts, etc, etc.

The target audience of Bitshares is businesses, where some smart, technical people at the top can be shown the benefits of Bitshares, and how it saves/makes them money, and then they adopt it as the backend of their platform.  Then they drive users to it, users who have never heard of Bitshares and never will.

Everyman should be your target. The pegged assets should be so reliable, so trusted, tat nobody has to think about them in a complex way.

Right now you are saying your target demographic is so small that I am surprised you have any faith at all. You keep justifying adoption to a smaller and smaller segment of the crypto interested world. And then some of you try to claim that you don't even need the crypto community.

Quote

People tried marketing to average people last fall, it didnt work.  The dev team correctly pivoted and identified the target audience that could actually adopt bitshares, and the way to bring them on board, and have them bring in their users (the referral program).

I missed that marketing push. Link?

Quote

The past year+ was about trial and error, and the Bitshares team correctly learned form their mistakes.  That can be seen in the design of 2.0.  BTS 2.0 will succeed through business partnerships, not average joes.  It doesnt need average joes, it merely needs to attract businesses who have their own customers to jump on board and bring their customers with them.

Bitshares has no reddit presence.  Every single coin out there has a stronger reddit presence than Bitshares.

Those other coins do not have a forum like bitsharestalk.org.
This ..
also those stats say notging about quality .. just quantity ..

But doesn't quality bring quantity?

Do you guys think your community is actively larger than Vertcoin?

Have you excommunicated yourself?

For the record I think our community is a small number of active members. The price plunge really shook the tree.

I only did that to make you guys feel better. Since you wish or already consider me  not a part of your community.  But as long as I still have some BTS, I will be around.

Anyway, reddit is a huge web hub of the type of demographic users Bitshares needs. It's a good place to start marketing a year ago. If the Chinese and Russian communities are really as large as what is touted here, then perhaps they are failing and the US/European markets should be stirred. I mean Vertcoin has no business anywhere outside of a dumpster and it's chugging along with more us/European users than Bitshares.

57
You are absolutely right about BitShares marketing.
But what is reddit.com who read it. Russians and Chineses did not read rabbit.  :)

This is a good comparison:
http://www.googlefight.com/bitshares-vs-vertcoin.php

Don't act like you don't know what reddit is.

58
Do you guys think your community is actively larger than Vertcoin?

I have no affinity to Vertcoin, it's a shit coin. I just chose it for comparison.

Bitshares is number 9 on coinmarketcap.com
Vertcoin is number 31 on coinmarketcap.com

BTS daily trading volume is $115K (today)
VTC daily trading volume is $15K (today)

Reddit.com is ranked at #32 globally and ranked #10 in the U.S.A. They have great accessible stats for their subreddits.

Here are Vertcoins subreddit stats:
https://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/about/traffic

and here is Bitshares subreddit stats:
https://www.reddit.com/r/bitshares/about/traffic

Then just for fun check out AskReddit's sub stats (largest subscribed sub on reddit):
https://www.reddit.com/r/askreddit/about/traffic

Why does this shitcoin have a larger community, assuming reddit stats accurately represent the communities beyond reddit too. Yeah, yeah, the Chinese community represents a huge part of Bitshares. Wouldn't that be true for Vertcoin and all altcoins for that matter?

Here is bitcoins sub stats:
https://www.reddit.com/r/bitcoin/about/traffic

So why are we not advertising on this huge website? 1,000 impressions costs between $1-$2 on reddit. Why hasn't a measly $1000 been spent on this just to try it? All the marketing delegates and AdamKErnests BTS collected so far equals much much more than that.

Insert another altcoin in the top 50 and their community's will all be larger than the godsend of crypto, Bitshares. Hell, even Ethereum's( https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/about/traffic) stats are booming in comparison, despite all the problems they have and the lack of an actual GUI.

Technical Support / Re: What happened to the 30 million BTS
« on: September 14, 2015, 05:24:10 pm »
I wasn't suggesting taking the 30 Million away. How about you hold people accountable:

Hey Guys,

Sorry that I haven’t been active on the forums over the past few weeks.

My team and I have been heads down, aggressively preparing for our recent demo out in CA. We had an awesome week out in California, meeting with legislators regarding our BitShares based voting system and networking with voting registrars and officials alike. Our demo went extremely well. We met some serious resistance from established players in the industry, confirming that implementing our voting solution in legitimate elections is a long term play. The good news is that we definitely made a splash and are continuing to attract all sorts of attention.

Now that crunch time is over, we are really excited to shift our focus to helping BitShares improve all aspects of our marketing, particularly with respect to our online presence and user acquisition methods. I’m an experienced internet marketer with Will as my padawan in training (don’t worry, he actually has a degree in marketing). We’d like nothing more than to work with the community to establish short term priorities and coordinate to avoid duplication of our efforts.

I’ll be actively watching this thread for your feedback and hope to get caught up to speed quickly.

This guy has done jack squat for Bitshares. Maybe Bytemaster should demand a return of the BTS and or the privatekey related to the still vesting BTS?

Follow my vote is actively developing a voting platform that will use bitshares network as the back end.

Which will do more damage, arbitrarily changing the rules to take funds from Adam *OR* having Adam dump 20M BTS over the next year?

I am so glad Bitshares has never arbitrarily changed the rules before. /s

This is the funniest thing I have ever read by you Bytemaster.
