General Discussion / Re: Should we continue to funding mining of PTS?
« on: October 17, 2014, 05:49:23 pm »
My thoughts, as someone who discovered bitshares in September:

If PTS had been forever closed to me at the time I discovered bitshares, I wouldve been very frustrated.  I would not have continued investigating bitshares, and I would not have bought a bunch of PTS and BTSX.

If you lock out everyone who does not currently have AGS or PTS from EVER acquiring a stake in the genesis shares of new DACs, then you will cause a huge number of people who discover us later to feel they have missed the boat, that they cannot participate in these new DACs, and they will leave, and not become members of the bitshares community.

So I think it is critical that we do NOT forever shut off any way to buy into the PTS/AGS genesis shares of new DACs.

Also, if we did that, and PTS then went to 0, there would be a TON of people out there going "Bitshares is dead, the price is zero".  You would see BTSX go back to 1 cent, purely based on idiots who didnt understand anything dumping.  People outsdie our community dont understand the difference between PTS and BTSX, they would see PTS go to 0 and would then forever avoid this whole bitshares thing.

**************

That said, obviously continuing to waste money on mining is bad, so we should either:

1) Convert PTS to DPoS.
or
2) Combine AGS/PTS into a new 'Bitshare' unit, and have this be DPoS.

Whatever it is, it needs to be tradable, so that newcomers can buy in.

Vote Dac snapshot occurred before I heard of bitshares, and its not tradeable yet, so no way for me to buy.  :(

I'm still not really sure how all those super intelligent people support POW if it is as unnecessary as the proof-of-stake community claims, including delegated proof of stake.

Because they have created a religion in which all altcoins, and especially all non-PoW coins are scams, and then they refuse to think about the issue any more.

There's a discussion about moving PTS to DPOS here: https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=9548.0

He does not care Rob, he just likes the sound of his own voice in his personal chamber.

Ohh man, how smart he feels listening to the sound of his own voice, repeating his wisdom....  again and again and again

Man, you just REALLY hate new forum users dont you tonyk. :D

General Discussion / Re: Do you follow the Bitcoin trends?
« on: October 14, 2014, 10:13:46 pm »
There's at least one more bubble with ATH and magnitude increase left in Bitcoin imo (that is if it doesn't evolve into something more efficient, then there's probably lots more) and I think it might be starting right here. All the weekly trends are exhausted from being pushed down and are springing back. The conditions look perfect. I'm very bullish :D

My thoughts exactly.

BTSX might go up 100x while bitcoin goes up 10x.  But bitcoin is still much more of a sure thing right now than any altcoin, so I am hedging my bets and going about 50-50 BTC and BTSX.

Bitcoin looks to have found a bottom.  It has been greatly outperforming btsx ever since it hit $275.

If you could get ebay, then obviously that would be amazing.  But how many people have been trying for years now to get ebay to take bitcoin?

At this point we need any market at all for bitUSD.  Going from 0 to 1 is the most important move.

A few weeks ago I decided to research the top 10 coins on coinmarketcap.  Bought bitshares.

Why don't you post it temporary J, till the official/high quality comes out? Obviously a lot of people are interested to hear it.

I tried to listen to it but the audio was so bad that I just turned it off and decided to wait for hte good version.

We definitely should not publish the low quality version. :D

My biggest wish right now is that the non-contributing community will find something to do. We need to find a way to leverage every single member of the community into ensuring the success of our blockchain.

Yes.

The mystery of Satoshi is truly the greatest marketing tool for bitcoin.  It captures our imagination.

Its an old World of Warcraft meme.  I was comparing the bitcoin seller (now dubbed 'the bearwhale') with 25k coins on the ask to a boss that everyone needed to attack.

In World of Warcraft a large team of players (a 'guild') would need to work together to defeat a boss.  Such a group was referred to as a 'raid'.

There is a famous video from around 2005 or so where a raid group is fighting a dragon, Onyxia, one of the major challenges at the time.

Several of the phrases that the raid leader says in the video turned into famous memes.

"More DoTs":  A DoT or 'damage over time' spell is something that the players would be able to cast on the boss.  The raid leader is calling for more DoTs to be cast on the boss, providing sustained damage over time.

"50 dkp minus":  When the boss is defeated, the group would have to divvy up its treasure.  However, the treasure would be in the form of maybe 4 or so items, whereas at the time a group of 40 people would need to collaborate to take down the boss.

The standard system for handling this was for a leader to track the participation of members of their guild over time, giving out "dragon kill points" or dkp to participants.  Thus, a player might participate in ten boss kills over the course of a month, and gain dkp each time, and then once they had enough, they would spend their dkp to win one of the items awarded for killing the boss, usually through an auction system.  (Players would bid dkp on the item they wanted, and the highest bidder would be given the item and dkp would be deducted from their total).

The "50 dkp minus" meme comes from the fact that in the video, the leader was threatening the team members with a 50 dkp penalty if they messed up.

Hopefully that made some sense. :D

And it seems to me that in the cryptoworld, people are very ready to change : the network effect is clearly not the same as for IRL objects. You can't change your samsung into an Iphone, so once you bought it, you're fucked. It's not the same at all for cryptos. People have no reason to be faithful.

I think you are underestimating the extent to which people treat their choice of crypto as a religion.   For most bitcoiners, bitcoin is the way, the truth, and the light, and everything else is a shitcoin scam.

Network effect and being first matters.

For this reason, I think the bitshares marketing plan to market to and onboard new people who ARENT currently interested in any crypto is an excellent one!  If they can successfully get a lot of new people who currently know nothing about crypto to look at and use bitUSD and buy BTSX, then we will be in great shape!

General Discussion / Re: BanxShares
« on: October 09, 2014, 09:06:33 pm »
Is it 100% premined or something? Surely no one's actually buying this...

When you are issuing shares of stock, "100% premined" is not an issue.  You could say we (bitshares) are premined.    In fact, the proof of work believers do exactly that and use it to dismiss BTSX as not worth considering.

That said, I dont know anything about what BANXShares are.

I literally just saw them on coinmarketcap and was like "what the hell is BanxShares"?

Anyone know what exchanges they trade on?
