General Discussion / Re: Reworking the wallet trading interface
« on: March 30, 2015, 09:40:25 pm »
While we're making suggestions, could the GUI implement a modal popup for confirming/canceling new orders instead of having to do it in the OPEN BUY ORDERS section?  The current layout is less intuitive and occasionally I forget to confirm.

Also, I'd prefer if the order numbers were right-aligned with fixed decimals to better compare orders.

For some reason 0.8.0 is running extremely slow for me now especially the NOTE and other UIA markets.  It's not crashing but seems very unstable.

I'm running 16GB RAM so its not a memory issue but acts similar.  Any ideas?

Which UI version are you on?  I suggest removing UI updates from the file menu.  You can get them back just as easily, so it's worth a try.

I'm on 0.8.1, but it seemed like the 0.8.1-a update had a few some issues.

Awesome- removing the updates fixed it!  Thanks!  It did take NOTE:BTS away from the featured markets page and the NOTE depth chart isn't zoomed but at least it's functional again  :D

Heres another rough layout.

with this layout you could potentially make the right column and the left column popout drawers that you could push out of the way to really maximize the viewable chart.

The "order history" on the right could also be tabbed with "Your Order history"

The tabs on the top left are getting kind of cramped, there's probably a better way to do that.

Good suggestions and I really like this layout.  I was going to suggest the depth chart in that location but was worried about it looking too cramped but it looks good!

A good improvement.  I'd personally prefer a different layout though.

I think the depth graph and trade history sections are too big and/or too prominent.

The chart, although in its current form is pretty useless, once redone/upgraded, should be front and center and should occupy as much screen real-estate as possible.

Heres another idea.

Also,  although not in the above pic,  the last traded price should be set apart made bigger more featured and highlighted in some way.
Consider that most mainstream trading clients often don't have lvl2 data or depth graph.  They just have a chart, the last traded price and the most relevant bid and ask.  I'm not saying we don't need/want them.  Just saying that they are not as important as the chart and last price etc.

+5% on all the suggestions.  It's similar to the layout on Bitstamp which I also prefer:  https://www.bitstamp.net/market/tradeview/
My only alteration would be to put the OPEN orders in a tab next to COVER.  Then I'd probably move the depth graph to the left and put a shorting-specific graph (depth, margins, etc) to the right to maximize real estate.

Thanks for the input Xeldal. I've been thinking of replacing the price history chart with this: http://techanjs.org/

I guess that's more like what you'd want? I'm not really a trader, what kind of indicators would you like to see added? MACD? Moving averages? Interactive trendlines? Percentage axis?

Here's an example of what that library can do:

Yeah, that's a much better chart!!

What are performance specs and associated costs to secure the network compared to BitShares?

More over, thanks yellowecho for the link
....
In Bitshares case, this means that nodes cannot go offline for a significant amount of time without needing a trusted source to update the block chain.
IMO these kind of issues are way smaller than the ones bitcoin is facing but it's something to keep in mind

I apologize if I was rude or dismissive but I've found it rare that new users from other communities post here and stay long enough to keep an open dialog but you seem to be an exception so welcome!  Could you elaborate on your point regarding offline nodes?  If I'm understanding correctly, I don't believe this to be much of an issue because if a node (delegate) goes offline and misses a block then it just goes to the next node... if the offline node consistently misses blocks for a long duration they can be voted out relatively quickly.

General Discussion / Re: Great news for our decentralized exchange?

Apparently it does. http://mashable.com/2015/03/25/equity-crowdfunding-sec-vote/

This means we can change our whole strategy and do equity crowd funding. Bitshares could allow us to own real companies through crowd funding. I also wonder what this will do for Swarm.co? Their price should go way up on this news.

It means we can do distributed technology funds legally now.

If that article is accurate and it means what I think it means....  OMFG!!!!!  :o :o

welcome to the forum anyway I guess

Don't be dismissive, their 40 page whitepaper is far more comprehensive than one blog post. :)

One item that might be interesting to add to the whitepaper is more discussion of other proof of stake systems, such as NXT (Transparent Forging) and Bitshares (DPoS) systems.

Welcome to the forum!

Their first post is a pitch on our forum for their coin.. and their whitepaper only focuses on how they're better than Peercoin and Bitcoin.  Sorry for not being more excited  :-X

You updated from 8 GB to 16, or to "about 8 or 16"?

I'm stuck at 88 days remaining. Deleting my chain for the third time today...   :(

I initially upgraded to 8GB and it synced ok but then installed a second 8GB for a total of 16GB and it performs very well.  I also just downloaded the entire blockchain in less than an hour.

When I was running ~4GB it was frustrating and took forever to sync and would freeze... from what you're telling me it sounds like it's a RAM issue.

I do agree that BitBTC/BitUSD is an important market, since it would give Bitcoin speculators an easy way to "park" value in a more stable asset and that it should be highlighted if we have or can get some good market makers operating for it.

I agree.  In fact, it might be a decent idea to have a dedicated light weight bitBTC:bitUSD wallet for this exact purchase and market it to BTC fans.

How much RAM are you running?
When I updated to 8-16GB everything was significantly faster and smoother.  The web wallet seems to work well and light weight is in testing I think
