It's sad to see every rise being stopped by a dump... Some whales aren't done yet.

Did anyone else happen to be on at just the right time, I think it was in December, to see cob leak a much more detailed plan about what he's going to do, only to have the lawyers advise him to take it down almost immediately?

Reading that particular post definitely helped solidify my personal desire to continue holding this one.

I didn't do a copy paste of that post at the time, so I wouldn't be able to report the details correctly, but I remember clearly feeling the same thing when I read it.

@Ander I'm pretty sure nobody's going to brag (or complain) that they were margin long, it was clearly a reckless move at this point...

I thought we were already lucky there wasn't a retracement right after the rise, but I had a feeling it would happen at some point. I was hoping I'd be wrong though.

Technical Support / Re: USD Collateral holder - "Not your account"
« on: March 12, 2016, 11:51:40 pm »

One thing I'm aware but don't know if it's related to your issue:
The memo key of the USD-collateral account is invalid (by default), try transfer without a memo, or firstly update the memo key to same as active key then try transfer again.

Thanks for the answer abit.

I still don't know what happened, but I realized I wasn't on the latest version of of BTS2 light, and after updating the issue disappeared and I was able to proceed with the transfer.

Sorry for the bothering!

Technical Support / USD Collateral holder - "Not your account"
« on: March 12, 2016, 09:18:05 pm »
Here's the issue I'm facing:

I own two accounts, basically mine and a USD collateral holder that was rolled over because I had open shorts on the DEX when Bitshares transitioned from BTS1 to BTS2.0.

To be safe I added a safe collateral ratio during the bear market, to make sure that I wouldn't get margin called. The problem is right now that I adjusted my collateral in the USD collateral account, I cannot send those BTS to my main account as it says in the transfer tab that it is not my account. I'm not quite sure why?

Is there something I have to do? I can update my collateral in the collateral holder account, but I can't transfer BTS from that account.

thanks!

OpenLedger / Re: ccedk, OpenLedger, Bitteaser, Daydream Consult ?

@ccedk

I've been around since the beginning (AGS, PTS, BST1), I haven't posted in a while but I have kept lurking the forum to keep an eye on the evolution of Bitshares.

I'm getting out my "lurking mode", because I feel that what you're doing is very beneficial for Bitshares, all while keeping your business' interests in priority. The recent PR buzz you're trying to create is getting the word out there. I don't think the results are showing just yet, but acquiring the trust of the public and getting people on board is quite a heavy task when you're in uncharted territories.

Keep working hard, OpenLedger's success will have a significant impact on the success of Bitshares.

I can't wait to hear what you have to announce in April, Bitshares need more entrepreneurs that build services around its blockchain.

The only way to make Bitshares a success is to get people motivated by self interest to leverage the power of Bitshares blockchain to get their projects going. Then the incentives are aligned for all parties.

I hope you're successful with OpenLedger, this way it will show portential entrepreneurs that it is possible to start a profitable business on top of Bitshares.

To all the others that already have on-going projects and also those working furiously behind the scenes to get their project out there, I wish you the same!

Technical Support / Re: Margin Call Price
« on: October 17, 2015, 01:36:55 pm »
I updated the collateral on an old expired USD short in BTS0.9 this morning. I wasn't margin called, but having a ton of collateral did help..

I feel the loss of those who were margin called...

I'm an eternal optimist though. It's time to short at those prices and get some liquidity in this market. I have an open sell order for USD on the DEX, freshly shorted! I hope a lot of people are able to import their keys and get their wallet working soon, I would like to see some action and big buy/sell walls  ;)

To prevent being margin called I prefer to put more collateral than required since there seems to be a lot of volatility, and I'm not always keeping an eye on my collateral ratio. Before the price gets more stable and less prone to manipulation, better be safe than sorry.

General Discussion / Re: Open Ledger is Now Operational
« on: October 14, 2015, 11:25:40 am »
I was able to load the web wallet and import my keys (https://bitshares.openledger.info), and suddenly I wasn't able to load the page anymore (grey page, nothing else). It happened yesterday and I still have the same issue this morning. I have an updated Chrome browser and I'm not in incognito mode.

Are there others having the same issue?

I've imported my keys, I can see my collateral under the usd-collateral-holder, but I see no balance on my main account dashboard.

Is there anything I need to do more than that?

Thanks!

Bitshares market cap might not get as high as some of us around here would like it to.

If it does though, I'll still continue to work but I'll be financially independant. I'll never be working for a paycheck anymore. That would be GREAT!

If it doesn't, I believe it'll still grow enough that my gains can be used to do another investment in the next big thing. But that is in a far and distant future. Bitshares IS the next big thing.

Even if Bitshares reaches only 0.10-0.15$ in the next few years I'll still consider it to be one of the best investment I have done.

General Discussion / Re: Pitchfork Countdown May Begin Next Week

2 days left now.  How are you guys feeling about the testnet?  On track for friday?

I believe that the test network has proven robust enough to replace the BTS 1.0 network in 30 days.

We have some graceful fallback positions that can be taken without missing the upgrade deadline:

1.  If all witnesses are on a single node then the network works perfectly, even with 1 second blocks
2.  Have several different witnesses all run from the same Amazon or Digital Ocean location
3.  Have all witnesses use a dedicated server to relay messages through while being geographically diverse
4.  Have all witnesses use current P2P and reduce block times to 5 seconds

In any event we are confident in the market behavior and evaluation of transactions and see no reason to delay upgrading the protocol simply because of networking/communication issues.

On the user interface side we have a viable wallet that supports:

1. market operations
2. transfers
3. voting
4. backups

Over the course of the next 30 days we will continue to refine the user interface, but at the very least it should be better than BTS 1 long before 30 days is up.

In other words, I am feeling pretty good about having the upgrade date be:  Tuesday, October 13th  (middle of work week)

I believe this announcement deserves its own thread ;) Good news indeed and great work!

I offer up 100 BTS to closest guess submitted by the end of 6/12/15.

By payoff time, I speculate that could be nearly $2.70 or enough for a 40oz. ;)

I say, at UTC-5 hours on 10/1/15 (aka 12AM CST) the price of BitShares will be 7750 sats.  And for bonus points, bitcoin will be $350.

I'm either going to be wrong or this is going to be a helluva September! ;)

Note : The date of release has been pushed back and my price was counting on that not happening.

It always takes longer than expected for the market to realize what's happening, and it always takes longer than expected for the developer's team to deliver on their promises. But I'm a patient guy, so yeah 7750 sats will happen at some point, but I don't expect it will happen overnight (or this fall). 7750 sats is a winter 2016 target in my mind!

From what understand you short went into the massive buywall at the feed price when it expired. If the feed price went above your call price, then your order would execute at up to 10 percent above the price, representing a ten percent penalty. Afaik that penalty should only occur if your price is still lower than the feed price. Otherwise your short is just part of the buywall at the feed price.

So yes you should be able to buy back for a profit assuming nobody took advantage of the ten percent discount when your short was margin called.

Thanks for the answer! My order is probably still in the buywall, as I can still cover my expired short. Got lucky I guess!

Hey,

Got a quick question for those of you who know very well the market engine rules.

I shorted a small amount of bitUSD in mid-July and my short expired in August. I decided to let it ride the order book instead of covering or rolling it over. But then the price dropped, causing my collateral to fall below the required amount. If my short hadn't been expired I would have been margin called, but it appears that because it was expired, it stayed on the order book at feed price.

Was I margin called, or since it was expired it wasn't what happened? Will I have to pay the 10% penalty for being margin called? Now that the price has risen significantly (right now the BTS value is higher than when I initially shorted), am I able to simply buy back the bitUSD and keep the BTS profits for the short?

Thanks for the answer!
