d) chinese exchanges without trading fees should be considered as well when providing a CNY price feed

btc38 also have trading fees, why not use
I believe that most of witnesses already included btc38 and yunbi in the price feeds.
The problem is that BTC price on CNY exchanges and USD exchanges are usually different, and a big volume of BTS is trading with BTC, so the price of BTS fed into the system is usually different to the price in CNY (on btc38 and yunbi).

No. Most of the witnesses are using xeroc's price feed script and this script derived volumed-based prices from btcaverage which in turn does not take into consideration of sites (eg OKCoin) which have zero trading fees.

General Discussion / Re: Fee Backed Assets (FBA)
« on: November 27, 2015, 06:31:49 am »
My initial thought is that the liability then is in the hands of the issuer. Those that are buying are buying it with the expectation of future profit and therefore is issuing a type of security.

Perhaps the dev is in a country where this might not be the case.. but then it gets dicey in regards to who buys it where.

I think you have to remove 'she' from the equation, and let it be decentralized. She can create the FBA, set the price per share, and issue it.. and when that's done that's done. It moves to committee-member control. It can either be fully bought up and funded by the maker, or the market is open to buy it.

I think the key element here is that once the FBA is created, it really belongs to the blockchain after that. This removes all liabilities in my estimation as far as offering securities is concerned.

Thoughts?

I think a security is a security no matter how you dress it up.  And there is no point dragging in the committee members to front the deal.  If you want to stay out of trouble with the law, look at how kickstarter works.

I would say 5. 5 is not too significant, yet, is still 5x more than 1 bts fee.

Tranwiser and other shorters are already paying trading fees for buying and selling bitUSD/bitCNY.  We are already making business out of it.  Charging for changing margin positions is an extra financial burden which only serves to discourage shorters. Aside from a small fee to prevent spams, I think it is unwise to put up extra friction to shorters resulting in lower liquidity.  BM agrees to a fee of 1BTS.  I believe this is a good balance.

Let's Skype asap!

We actually HAVE a video streaming platform right now. So far it only works with credit card and
Bitcoin but the plan would be to Graphenaphize the crap out of it  :)

We can't focus on this too much since we have a lot on our plates already. It would make sense to join our efforts to attack the entertainment industry from all sides.

Excellent.  +5%

I am glad to see the initial sparks forming.  I look forward to the two talented people working together. Perhaps we would be seeing Superman and his legend of superheroes right here in the community in the not too far future.  :)

Technical Support / Re: Next Documentation Efforts [poll]

This thread - ttps://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,20267.0/topicseen.html goes to show a documentation on securing wallet/fund is important and very much needed.

@cube:

This is not only to help myself, but also and especially to encourage other shorters.

I definitely cannot supply enough BitCNY,  we need more shorters to join the game.

Yes, I understand that.

If we as a community cannot even provide a comfortable and profitable environment for our existing major partner in bitCNY to grow, how then are we going to attract other shorters/players?

One of the biggest impediments to having more bitUSD and bitCNY liquidities is the lack of big players in creating the bitassets.  Transwiser, of which bitcrab is the founder, is a big player in the bitCNY market.  In fact, Transwiser provides for bts<->bitCNY<->CNY fiat.  There is a huge risk associated with shorting and creating the necessary bitCNY for its customers.

When he is facing difficulties with reacting to a change in the bitCNY price, because of a high magin-position update fee, and he is asking for help, I think as a community we ought to listen.  If we could not support our valued business partners in time of need, our partners are not going to support us too when we needed them.

A number of committee members are of the view that we do need to support our major bitCNY partner when he asks for help.  However, we like to open a discussion and gather feedback from the community members and consider them before arriving at any decision.

Please feel free to share your views.

I got the same error message.

Looking in the wallets folder, a new default folder was created.....there was nothing in it and nothing in the default-DoNotUse folder.

I'm sorry about this cube, thank you so much for your time.  Would there be any point in uninstalling 0.9.3 and running an older version of the Windows client....one that will accept the backup file?

The default folder is the wallet folder. Rename it to 'default-DoNotUse' and when you start up the client, it will create a new empty 'default folder'  (an empty wallet).  With an empty 'default' wallet, hopefully you can restore the backup.  bts0.9.3 is compatible with bts0.9.1 wallet.  There is no need to uninstall it and install an older version.

This may turn out to be a tedious process.  Another easier approach you may consider is using the full professional wallet recovery service from xeroc.

If you think we've reached the end of what we can do via your remote help, i will certainly consider it.  How does one engage with Xeroc's professional service?  Via forum pm?

Before I do, one last thing......I can handle tedious, i just don't like using up your time!. That said.  May we please have one last attempt to get me to do what is needed?

So to be absolutely clear.......

I turn on the laptop,
navigate to C:/Users/Ben Mason/AppData/Roaming/BitShares\Wallets\default
rename to C:/Users/Ben Mason/AppData/Roaming/BitShares\Wallets\default-DoNotUse
Then run the 0.9.3 bitshares client
Once it gets to the login screen, select import wallet...replace existing wallet.....type in password

If the above is correct and I get the same error message, what should I try after that?  Is there anything else or is it at this point I need Xeroc?

I am most happy to help you. I believe there are many others who would be glad to offer a helping hand too, as demonstrated by bhuz above.   If you are fine with this 'volunteer-help-as-we-go' process, we are fine too.

The above steps are correct.  If you still face problem after trying the steps, there may be some issues with the backup file.  Xeroc has helped people with 'problem' wallet file before. You may like to PM him and may need to show him part of the encrypted wallet file if required.

Ok, i'll try what Cube suggests and any further updates on that, then I'll try to reinstall 0.9.1 with the copied bts1 blockchain.  If that fails, i'll contact Xeroc.  Thank you Bhuz.

If you reinstall 0.9.1, you may not be able to use the downloaded blockchain as there may be incompatibility issues.  You may have to resync it from scratch.

they are no longer there....so I need to import the backup.  Am I doing it correctly using import wallet?

as long as i have the backup.json are my keys and funds safe?

Yes, they are. Do the import then.

I've tried several times and each time i get the error failed to restore.......etc

Failed to restore wallet backup.  Your original wallet has been restored. Error: boost::filesystem::remove: The directory is not empty: "C:/Users/Ben Mason/AppData/Roaming/BitShares\Wallets\default" (13)

Rename your wallet file to something else:

Rename "C:/Users/Ben Mason/AppData/Roaming/BitShares\Wallets\default"  to  "C:/Users/Ben Mason/AppData/Roaming/BitShares\Wallets\default-DoNotUse" before import.

@cube you can be sure Solly has considered using MUSE, but why would we want to send him away to join a separate chain when we can have a killer content sharing app operating on the BitShares blockchain?  MUSE needs some competition, after all.

Nobody is sending Solly away.  MUSE is targeting similar music/entertainment industries and both MUSE and Solly have overlapped business models.  By working together, they may be able to reap synergy and achieve a higher chance of success than each working alone.

General Discussion / Re: BitUSD and BitCNY at poloniex!!!
« on: November 25, 2015, 07:21:06 pm »
Sorry for the off-topic. Is Poloniex considering to add MUSE?

Yes, but realistically there wouldn't be that much volume in this market, so it is a low priority.

Unfortunately, that is true.
