General Discussion / Re: Future DAC Delegate Pay Model
« on: September 29, 2014, 02:20:39 pm »
Shouldn't this thread have a different title to attract a more general open discussion?

It certainly isn't merely about Delegate Pay Models but a rather sweeping proposal effecting the entire ecosystem structure.

The more I think about this proposal the more backwards it seems.  Please convince me otherwise, though.

It actually removes incentive to participate in the initial stages of a project when the most work needs to be done.  To quote from cob's cross post announcing the same novelty for his new Music DAC:

"As the DAC matures, dilution will be less and less necessary, until it becomes a thing of the past."

Imagine I am a web designer and will be payed in the Music DAC's "Notes" (the currency) to make the DAC's first website.  500 Notes is the price. Why would I accept this job offer if I know that in a years time dilution will rapidly negatively affect the value of labor I invested?  Wouldn't I much rather avoid new projects and only participate in those which have established themselves where the currency is less inflationary?

This proposal would harm early adopters and AGS donors the most.  And frankly, I don't think there would have been many AGS donors if this model had been revealed as the desired model early on.  It certainly moves the goalpost.

Dilution is also the most cited complaint I have heard from people who chose not to donate to Etherium.

if pushing transactions to the network became possible like in this scheme: https://blockchain.info/pushtx

it would then be possible to have a cold storage account where the owner key never touches the internet and you could fund any hot account you create from it.

Thanks a lot GaltReport.

That is exactly what I was looking for.   I have no funds, so no worries.  I'm just playing around with an empty wallet.  Thanks again.

I'm playing around with the new release of the GUI offline, mostly to learn about the console functions, and noticed that upon removing the program and reinstalling I am no longer presented with the option to create a new wallet.  I get the "Unlock" screen.

This happens if I try to uninstall with the built in uninstaller or uninstalling through the control panel.  Does anyone know a way to do a completely fresh install in Windows without wiping the hard drive?

The only real reason to register a domain is to build a website on it.  Everything else is either squatting, or good intentions with lack of execution.  mdw is right about giving ample time to create quality websites.  Parking or "parking like" pages should be banned somehow. There could be some index like "proof of development" which confirms through submissions that a website is actually under construction in order to retain control of the domain.  Works in progress are ok, as long a something is going on.  With a reasonable time limit of course.  Completed websites should be guaranteed their existence though!

I've always wondered...(sorry if this is stupid)...

If I am a new user and register a wallet for the first time and export the .json file, and then I go and buy some BTSX and invest in bitUSD and send some to friends and then somehow something goes wrong, is that original .json file useful to me?  The one that I made when my wallet was still empty?  If I load that original .json file into a new wallet will it somehow detect the subsequent activity I engaged in or do I need to make frequent backups sort of like snapshots of state changes?

I also have an old mac, and it's also never worked for me.

That is a very curious crash report.    It is interesting that the old version worked for you.

I think he means that it never worked for him.

If there is not enough liquidity it is also possible for the network to "print" BTSX necessary to make great deals relative to a trusted feed.

BTSX might become "printable"?  Could someone EILI5?  As a holder of BTSX this doesn't sound so good on the surface.

General Discussion / OSX v. 10.6.8

Is there a version of the wallet which is compatible with OSX 10.6.8 yet?  There was a pull request for it at some point I think.  Old tech wants some love too.  ;)

Thanks gamey,

I'm familiar with wine so maybe I'll try that first.  Which version of the wallet was working for you with wine?  Is that version still available / would it still work on the network (that old version)?

If that doesn't work I'll try to figure out what a PPA is and go that route.  It would be nice if the whole thing were somewhat easier to get installed.  Do you know if binaries are planned?
