General Discussion / Re: Listing BitUSD on centralized exchanges?
« on: July 30, 2014, 12:40:37 am »

Except that bitUSD will ultimately be subject to the same fate as USD.  And that one, we know, may not last much longer.

USD is a figure of speech. It is any  fiat currency you like. As for gold standard... it will come but I am too old to think it will be in my lifetime :)   I just turned 40....

I think some gold standard will come within 5 years myself.

Edit: Happy 40th!  :)

What do you mean take it off the blockchain?

It will be taken off the blockchain at the centralized exchanges as much as BTC (or any other coin) is taken from the blockchain at said exchanges.

bter already lets you keep CNY so why keep BitCNY on the exchange? With both you have to trust the exchange won't take your money but with BitCNY you have the additional risk of the peg not holding.

How easy is to deposit real USD in Bter (and all  cryto-only exchanges) ...
yes in bret it will be CNY or bitCNY whatever you choose...
And then again why they have bigger/more BTC markets than CNY markets?

If I'm understanding you, yes, you're right, if it's possible,  BitAssets mean crypto-only exchanges can maybe offer a lot more and bigger options because they are backed up on the X blockchain.

I still don't understand exactly if it's possible.

The only thing I do not understand is how you were so optimistic 2-3 weeks ago, if you did not realize that this is one of the ultimate goals! (i.e. taking over BTC, before taking over the USD/EUR/CNY )    :)

:) I thought people would use a centralised exchange/ATM etc.  to buy BTSX and once they had BTSX then they would trade BitAssets on the X blockchain. It still seemed huge.

Edit: I still don't really get the value of storing the BitAssets on a centralised exchange.

@Empirical1 not it is far more than IOU

When you try take it off the X blockchain and put it on a centralised exchange, even if it were possible, it becomes just an IOU, no?

I'm not sure about these things but I don't think it's possible. If it was, it just becomes an IOU so would be no better and probably worse by comparison than the currency options some centralised exchanges already offer.

Potentially tracking the CAP on coinmarketcap could be good & maybe possible.

All I know is some people with serious money are about to buy into btsx and market the hell out of it.

I know everyone at I3 is putting in a massive effort every day to make the BitShares vision a reality...

Just in case, while working long days and in-between the input/criticism/venting & working with limited resources, it sometimes seems we don't appreciate the hard work you put in, what you have already achieved and how awesome BitShares is, I just want to say

THANK YOU! BitShares & the talent behind it is awesome! Your hard work, talent, innovation & dedication is appreciated!

Sine there are still serious bugs in the Windows implementation (and probably elsewhere), starting a stepped up marketing campaign too soon might cause as much harm as good. Keeping it all word of mouth for a while gives breathing room to fine tune before going mainstream.

Yes that makes sense.

Between word of mouth and delegates, shareholders should also be doing their part to promote this.

Dacsunlimited obv. has finite resources but I hope when BitAssets are launched they may have a small scale centralised campaign that involves some form of traditional advertising, promotions & press.

The 2.3 version recognised the wallet, made me type the password and sees the accounts and old + incoming transactions but when I try to send a transaction and I need to click 'ok' it doesn't work? (I still have the same wallet on a 2.2 version on my netbook so it's fine.)

Is there a better way to import a wallet than copying the .json file and wallet folder into the appdata/roaming/BitShares X folder of the new version?

I had that problem intermittently on the first release, and now again intermittently (and as of last night, constantly) on doing my update to 2.3. I can't figure out what is causing it, but it is annoying because it is keeping me from voting and from tipping.

Cool, well I guess it's fine as my 2.2 version still works. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't messing anything up.

Also I'm still confused why it needs my wallet folder from 2.2 in there and not just the .json file. I exported another wallet, with a pretty small amount in the account but I only have the .json file for that one, so I'm hoping that will be fine.

You should probably be marketing to two types day traders and finance/VC's with more capital.

For day traders, you would find out what the 4/5 most popular trading forums are. Make a post that outlines what X is and what it's advantages are and ask for feedback. We should get a good idea from that how likely they are to start trading once it becomes fairly functional. (You could also try to incentivise 'hero members' on their forum to try download and use it, if they like it they'll promote it and if not you will get some very valuable feedback)

The marketing director for DAC's unlimited should be presenting to more high profile people, so giving a presentation/phone call to secondmarket for example with a follow up. You could also contact people who were bidders for Bitcoin that were recently auctioned. You only need a handful of these people to get the potential.

THis is where I was headed the other night when trying to type on my phone.  There are tons of trading forums etc.  In fact when I get around to setting up a delegate this would be my one and only goal.

I might even suggest we support some fork that is basically play money.  Don't you see these things on forex markets etc?  They're likely rigged in the customer's favor by having 0 spread etc, but... I know they exist.

+5% Fantastic. We could also maybe do a promotion where we give people that have more than 100 posts a little BTSX to try the system.

I tried day trading myself a few years back, and I actually think the BTSX wallet is easier and more intuitive than some of the trading software I downloaded back then, with a few more weeks developments, I suspect the average day trader will be very comfortable setting it up and getting started with some clear instructions.

I also agree with Gingerbreadman, part of the challenge may actually be taking them through the process of acquiring BTC and then exchanging it for BTSX to fund the wallet in the first place...

General Discussion / Re: BTER withdrawal not showing in wallet
« on: July 29, 2014, 12:59:30 pm »
Looks like the problem fixed itself and my balance is correct as of this morning. Guess I just needed to be patient.

On another note, why is there a 1% fee for withdrawal? I know there is a 1% bonus for depositing BTSX, but since I never participated in the snapshot I never deposited my BTSX on the exchange. I saw something about there being no fee with a BTER code, but I didn't understand how that worked...either way not the end of the world; just seems like 1% makes this my most expensive withdrawal ever.

Yeah it's a bit annoying, I thought I'd get a 1% bonus for depositing BTC to offset it, but no.

Having said that it's only one of two exchanges atm allowing BTSX trading and it does take more effort on their part to keep up to date, take extra risks etc.

Also with the potential of BTSX for the next year, I'm not going to get in a twist for a 1% fee when I'm able to buy at these prices.

Having a bit of trouble this morning.  I didn't receive my withdrawal.  I'll update when bter has it cleared up.

Yeah me too, I'll go to sleep and update in the morning.

Yes I have just received mine this morning as well.
