We should have icons next to each asset for easy identification (as shown on the image).

I minimized a couple of markets (minimized button circled in red), but how do I get them back?

Maybe the color contrast that Polo has makes the chart look cleaner (to me at least), I guess because I am use to their color scheme. Would there be a option to change color themes in the future? For users that already feel more comfortable having a light background.

I think the dev team has made great improvement over the past week on the GUI. Kudos

Suggestion: Instead of reinventing the wheel, can we use a ready made javascript charts for the candlesticks, market depth charts, etc?

Here are a few I found:

http://www.amcharts.com/demos/candlestick-chart/
http://canvasjs.com/javascript-candlestick-chart/
http://shop.highsoft.com/highcharts.html

It seems like Poloniex is using one of them. They are a bit pricey but worth getting it.

Maybe we are already using a plugin, but I think we should give people what they are familiar with.

Just a thought.

Here is an interesting article:

Bitcoin Will Need to Scale to Levels Much Higher Than Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal Combined

I really don't think that's a fair characterization. BitShares has a history of making extraordinary claims without the requisite formal analysis. Many of the projects I mentioned have been upfront with stating they are experiments not meant for mission-critical use.

Bitshares has claimed the opposite positioning itself for enterprise use. Naturally this requires a lot more due diligence. To this date I still maintain that the core value proposition of your community that is the notion of a value stable currency needs to be academically vetted.

There are more than a dozen formal papers on ethereum since it came out. A lot of people are studying it and trying to improve the model. Nothing on BitUSD. Nothing on DPoS. This is a shame because they are topics that need study and evolution outside of the mind of one person who is often wrong.

More than 50% of the projects you mentioned are barely in a proof of concept stage while BTS documented well enough for a senior expert like you to make a good judgment and differentiate between "extraordinary claims" and reality.

Personally I think it's an emotional issue between you and Dan. It's none of my business so I'll stay away.

I just don't think it's very professional to let those things interfere - when you paint a detailed landscape of the crypto-world just do thoroughly without any bias or intentional omissions.
Actually I now think it's quite manipulative, especially when your target audience is no position to find out what's missing.

As much as I admire your talking skills and deep insight regarding the crypto-world, I must admit today I've lost faith in your good intentions regarding BTS.

I totally agree with Jakub, that it's an emotional issue on CH's part.  The very least CH could have done is just mention Bitshares in passing, as he does many of the other projects, especially being introduced as "the founder of two of the most important companies in the bitcoin space, Bitshares and Ethereum" and using this forum to post his talks and ideas.

General Discussion / Re: The 2.0 launch - lessons learned

Maybe it should have been announced before the release of 2.0 that the backend was ready and  fully functional and  to excuse the UI for is still in development but nevertheless very useful. Something along those line.

Is there a difference between keys.json and WIF?

I am confused about WIF.

Maybe there should be the word OR between Import and WIF

Excuse my ignorance.

Technical Support / OpenLedger or wait for Windows Client?
« on: October 13, 2015, 07:26:32 pm »
1. Do I wait for the windows client to come out or should I go ahead and use OpenLedger? Do they both do exactly the thing?

2.The Wallet Management Console in OpenLedger is asking to upload my keys.json file and also to PASTE PRIVATE KEYS (WALLET IMPORT FORMAT - WIF). Is it asking for both or one or the other?

3. If my keys.json file is not complete, with all my keys, can I come import and add a complete file later?

Hello,

I had my latest deposit made this morning (10/12/2015), I waited for my wallet to update, I do see my last two transactions on the wallet transaction list.

Then my wallet started to resync before I made a wallet_export_key.

1. If I do it now when it's resyncing would all my transactions be safe?
All is fine .. you transaction will be effective for BTS2 also!
You will still need to catch up with syncing so that your wallet correctly derives the corresponding private key.

I guess I need to download the latest blockchain to do that. Hopefully someone will upload one that runs up to 10/12/2015

2. I've noticed that the keys.json file has 40 entries for both private and public keys, is that the number of transactions that I have made from the beginning?
Yes .. that number will increase by at least ONE .. once it catches your transactions from this morning

I counted the number of transactions in the GUI and it has 42 transactions, but my json file only has 40. Does that mean that the last two transaction did not get save properly to the json file?

3. I have downloaded the chain_10_5_2015.zip, and extracted under the \AppData\Roaming\BitShares\chain folder, but when I run the wallet, it starts again from the beginning at 0%, how does this work? Do I need to do anything special for it to read the new folder? I know I am have it in the correct folder for if I remove it, it creates a new chain folder.
Not sure .. does the forum thread not describe it correclty?. Maybe you now have extracted the "chain" folder into the "chain" folder or so .. It may also depend on the architecture .. not sure you can use a 64bit database on a 32 bit machine ???

I have extracted the chain folder correctly, to check that I rename it and run the GUI again and it creates a new chain folder exactly where I downloaded the new one. My computer is a 64bit machine., how can I tell what architecture the download is in?

I would probably need a new chain download that dates 10/12/2015 to get my last two transactions, if indeed they where not save in the json file.

Please help me with this.

Thank you.
I am pretty sure someone will make a chain torrent for the snapshot .. I wanted to do one... but missed my chance since mr.agsexplorer created on block after the snapshot time (worthless)

That would be great, and also if they can put some instructions with that it would be awesome.

BTW: I do have the transaction IDs of the last two transactions that suppository are not showing up in the json file, would that help recover them?

Thank you for all you hard work in helping us newbees.

The log file is dated 10/6/2015, it's in this folder: BitShares/wallets/default/000080.log and it's 192KB

so it is not exposed from v0.9.3c since this version is released this month....
it is an old log file that was created back in June where the old wallet was installed...

So since it is not related with the last version I am not worried too much  ;)

edit:
+ as xeroc mentioned it has BTS on the beginning.... so no private key (I was also confused )

I am sorry for the mixed up, but the date is not Jun 10, 2015 but Oct 6, 2015, this was generated by v0.9.3c yesterday.

The owner_key starts with 5bts... I am just hoping that is not my private keys  :-\

have you a delegate? Have you ever used the command:

wallet_delegate_set_block_production  <account name> TRUE

?

I don't have a delegate and I have never used that command.

with your backup .json file and your password you will recover on any computer your account...
with the  key you found as far as i know you can NOT do the recover (it's just a public key, at least I think so), it is not your secret key. The wallet don't expose anywhere your secret keys in plain text (it is only encrypted inside your .json backup file). Waiting xeroc to confirm this  :)
To clarify:
public keys (worthless) start with "BTS...."
private keys (to spend your funds) start with "5...."

You had mention earlier on this post that private keys start with a 5, and that's why I am concern because according to the log file it starts with a 5 followed by BTS.... and on the beginning of the log file it states that the owner_key is 5BTS.....

Code: [Select]
index  idA  name xxxx public_datagui_datawebsite  owner_key5BTS5XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX2Saactive_key_history2014-09-02T04:46:205BTS5XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX2Saregistration_date2014-09-02T04:46:20 last_update2014-09-02T04:46:20 meta_datatype
titan_accountdata last_child_key_index        block_production_enabled custom_data approved        Aò}ÓÒí
index  idA]      name xxxxx public_datagui_datawebsite

Wouldn't the owner_key be the same as the private_key?
