General Discussion / Re: Yield question
« on: December 12, 2014, 05:15:15 am »
There will be a separate bond market for guaranteed returns.

Do we have a spec for this yet?  Will this be a 1.0 feature?

Same question.

General Discussion / Re: Weekly or Biweekly Updates. Is it too much to ask?
« on: December 12, 2014, 04:16:12 am »
You should expect an update from Adam on monday.

And from Brian P? Like never?

Probably never! But bitmarket and murderistic from his marketeer crew hang out here occasionally

The arrogance is costing me money (for Pepto Bismol)

Updates would be great, project plan would be even better. I just want to see a project plan outlining 1 month, 3 months, 6 months with milestones, projected costs and resource allocation. I understand the need for privacy with business development, the same shouldn't hold true for marketing efforts. At a 40 million dollar valuation, we should have a monster plan outlined and coordinated between different resources.

I might be in the minority but that's how I feel about it.  If you want to know everything happening from the community marketing team, it's as simple as following a weekly link.

Transparency should be king within BitShares.

General Discussion / Re: OIL. Let's get this asset going.
« on: December 12, 2014, 04:09:40 am »
yhea ... as they "apparently" also did for bitUSD :)

It just depends who gets themselves publicly known by them first, to me BitAssets, imply decentralisation and we'll probably still hold the small crypto market, but our lack of marketing & not opening up BitOil/Silver and pushing BitGold may cost us the BitAsset brand in a few months as customers will be too confused between the two.

Could be a good BitAsset to start now. Let's not miss the OIL bus opportunity like these guys... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sLB-uMPj27s

You're right.  +5%

You are doing an excellent job hpenvy  +5% you definitely have the right mindset  ;)

Thanks. I know we all have different opinions on responsibility. I wish writers would do more research as Fuzzy mentioned, I just don't feel like we have the luxury right now. Bitcoin is challenging, the BitShares ecosystem from the outside tends to look like a hot mess. I encourage everyone to look for opportunities to make contact with writers. We want to build a list of people that look for excuses to cover our headlines rather than the other way around.  Someone mentioned some outdated information about Litecoin, that's an opportunity.  Hey xwriter, I was reading your article on the top 5 virtual currencies and noticed you posted some information that's no true about Litecoin anymore. A sentence or two and then a mention of BitShares would work wonders.

My outlook has always been that we should build our own content from the ground up.  Why beg, plead, bribe and "educate" cryptocurrency news outlets when we can build our own?

Do we depend on outsiders?  or do we prefer to depend on each other?  To me...the choice has always been a simple one.

We have weekly hangouts and I have expressly made them available free of charge for anyone who wants to create their own content based on them.  They can attend, record and report directly from our community server...

That coupled with initiatives like Null Street give us an amazing power that is largely untapped because we are too focused on reaching outside our sphere.  When we reach outside our sphere, we add an extra hurdle for ourselves--converting non-believers.  This is a huge barrier we don't need to concern ourselves with imho.  If we build it...the non-believers will believe.  Then we have killed two birds with one stone and we aren't here wasting our energy on "how we reach these people" because the answer is literally right here in front of our faces.

If people are here...they already believe.  Why not utilize them?  Why not lift up each other instead of reaching out to those who already have all their eggs tied up in a different basket?

To me, this OP could be much more effective for our cause if it were to ask the question "How can we build a broad-spectrum network of news agencies that out-compete the current ones in crypto?"

The infrastructure is ALREADY here...if only people would come together instead of trying to go it alone.  There is a time to compete amongst ourselves--that time is not now.

I have a very different outlook which is fine. People can build internally or decide to wait for the big marketing push, I have no problem with choices. For me, I'm making the contacts as they appear. Do it alone? What do you think we've all been doing on NullStreet? Look at the weekly newsletter, there's no 'alone'. Coordinated efforts are developing because it's required. If I saw any type of formal marketing plan, I might have a different opinion. Until that project plan drops on NullStreet, I will get back to reaching out to potential contacts.

Marketing has already had a number of good conversations from companies we've contacted that might not have decided to contact us on their own. The writer wrote back, I will send follow-up information.  Everyone has a different approach, this is mine. As long as there's measurable results, the path doesn't concern me as much.

Received a reply from the writer.

""Thanks for the response and information.

It was a limited number this time, will sure cover BitShares in one of my next :) "

This response was also cc'd to Murderistic. We'll make sure to send some good follow-up material.

General Discussion / Re: Community Marketing Newsletter - 12 - 09 - 1

A huge thank you goes out to everyone on Nullstreet that devotes time to helping push the community driven marketing.

Kudos to Method-X for getting the Nullstreet initiative started. So many wonderful projects that are currently being executed.

Primecoin and Darkcoin? Snore.

We either stay completely ignored or look for minor opportunities to educate those that are writing about crypto. I can't blame writers for ignoring us, it's up to the community to do a better job of reaching out whenever possible.  That's how I see it, I've been known to be wrong most days. :)

I think there is plenty of blame for writers who do not do their due diligence before "educating" people.  If you notice, every coin but PPC is Proof of Waste....

Very hard to believe someone who knows about all these coins has no clue about other projects (like bitshares).  If she is able to give the prices and marketcaps of each coin she is almost guaranteed to have run across coinmarketcap and other, similar, platforms and in that case she would have no option but to see bitshares at #4 (well above all but 2 of the stated coins).

It is not a lack of education.. that is near certain.  They are blatantly misrepresenting the landscape.  And even worse...there is no comments section.

I respect your opinion, however, I will strongly disagree. It's our product, the responsibility is on us.  We can talk about fairness and journalism all day, it won't change the fact that BitShares is often ignored in most articles. Rather than being upset by it, I made a list of over 100 writers that have written about Bitcoin and passed it on to marketing to start building those relationships. I'm a binary type of guy.

ninja edit:

If I was writing the article, I would have done more research like you suggested above. However, the reality doesn't put eyes on our product without us making contacts.

It's a significant move, good for them.

Reached out and CC'd Murderistic just as I did for some of the other contacts. I try not to worry about the intention and instead focus on the follow-up. :)

Only the bitcoin modified first generation coins were mentioned, no surprise.

True, but it doesn't dismiss our obligation to help educate.
